Pearl by Janis Joplin

Would I listen again: no Best track: My Baby Worst track: trust me Surprise awesome track: Move Over Weirdest track: none really stand out Lyrics: mostly blues type lyrics. Nothing super deep but tons of memorable lines. No skips?: no Cover art cool?: no Notes: I am saying this out of the gate that I am not expecting much from this album. I totally respect Joplin and recognize her place in history but I just don’t think for whatever the reason that I am going to find this entire album to be something worth listening to again. I hope to be proven wrong. Full tilt boogie band is killer. What a great tight band. But same Blues rock shit over and over again. It’s fine but it’s not particularly memorable musically.

Would I listen again: no Best track: Title Track. Worst track: where was you at Surprise awesome track: Four cornered room. Weirdest track: city, Country, City Lyrics: lyrics about something it seems but very repetitive. No skips?: no Cover art cool?: yeah. Notes: I literally know about this band except for low rider. I mean it’s fine so far. Nothing objectionable but nothing really memorable for me. So city country city definitely got my attention. Awesome Jam evolving over the course of the track. Production on this is great. Recoding sounds great. Feel immersed during this song. Four cornered room super trippy and groovy. Production on this is amazing. Overall though. If it came in again I’d listen but I would not be like seeking this album out. It’s fine. It’s a solid album but nothing that will require to listen again or go out of my way to hear. There are a few tracks I’d like to hear again, but def don’t need to listen to this all the way through as a whole again.

Blood On The Tracks by Bob Dylan
Nov 29 2024

Would I listen again: no Best track: Shelter From the Storm Worst track: You’re a Big Girl Now Surprise awesome track: Meet me in the morning Weirdest track: none were standout weird Lyrics: it’s Dylan. Lyrics are solid. No skips?: no. Cover art cool?: no. Kind of lame. Notes: I love Dylan but really haven’t explored his catalogue that in-depth. I am pre Newport folk festival fan mainly not for any reason other than I prefer the man a guitar and a harmonica. This album is good there is nothing bad about it but some of the songs are ehh… you’re a big girl now etc. like it’s fine but I’m not coming back for it. I’m kind of wishing I didn’t listen to this album through because I feel like he is doing the same thing on ever track like with his rhyme scheme like rhyme rhyme rhyme not rhyme into title of song as chorus.

Would I listen again: yes Best track: long distance runaround Worst track: five per cent for nothing. Surprise awesome track: we have heaven Weirdest track: cans and Brahms Lyrics: fine. But this is about the music. No skips?: no. Cover art cool?:yes Notes: I have very high hopes for this listen. I like this band but have never sat the light the whole album. I am afraid though it may fall victim to its own like progressiveness and get weird for the sake of weird. Roundabout is one of my fav songs. Steve Howe such a great player. Mood for a day! This is gorgeous how have I never heard this. Chris squire such a great and commanding bassist. This band has such good groove that I never noticed. Heart of the sunrise sounds like it could fit in my glass breams style playlist. Amazing sounding album. Just realized I was playing it on shuffle so I’m just gonna go with it because Im enjoying it anyway. Overall great album on one slip that five percent for nothing song is whack.

Lady Soul by Aretha Franklin
Dec 02 2024

Would I listen again: no Best track: Good to me as I am to you. Worst track: people get ready Surprise awesome track: sweet sweet baby since you’ve been gone. Weirdest track: groovin Lyrics: good typical sixties blues r&b lyrics. No skips?: I could skip the whole album respectfully. Cover art cool?: na it’s just a pic of her. Notes: At the outset let me say I have no issue with Aretha Franklin in general and I totally like her voice and every song of hers I’ve ever heard. That being said, I have never sought out an Aretha Franklin song to listen to because I was a fan of that song, I have never heard one that made me say hmm that’s interesting, and I have never listened to one of her albums all the way through. I am hopeful that this album is interesting enough to me to make this listen through pleasurable annd interesting and not repetitive and boring. Am anticipating a fast moving album short songs with funk and groove. But nothing to deep or anything bought provoking. Chain of fools heard the song. A million times but never listens. Drummer is great. The rhythm he hitting on that ride cymbal is great and groovy. Barrie one if Bass vi or whatever it is is great too. Not feeling this version of people get ready. Like this is all great. She great the music is great but nothing here will bring me back to listen to this again. It’s great and I like listening to it but I don’t care about it. I wouldn’t seek this out. I’m not sure why. Nothing I’m listening to will make me a repea customer. It’s good my meal was good everything about it checks out but I’m never coming back to this restaurant because it just doesn’t have anything that particularly stands out to me. I say this while completely recognizing and acknowledging the social and cultural importance of this woman and her music.

Hunky Dory by David Bowie
Dec 03 2024

Would I listen again: no Best track: life on mars Worst track: Eight line Poem. Surprise awesome track: oh! You pretty things. Weirdest track: quicksand Lyrics: aces. Great amazing. No skips?: no Cover art cool?: yea it’s cool. Notes: Very excited for this. Love Bowie but never got into deep tracks with him. Musicianship on Bowie music and the sounds are so great. Uch changes such a beautiful song. Never realized how Dylan esque some of his vocal choices were. I love yhe chords and music in Oh. You pretty things. Love the phaser piano on eight line poem. Uch life on mars such a perfect song. The ending is pure Lennon McCartney. All songs on this album are good that’s the baseline some are unforgettable and craveable Nd others are just good. Happy to listen but if I never heard it again I’d be fine. The problem is the amazing songs are so amazing it makes other great songs only seem good in comparison.

Raw Like Sushi by Neneh Cherry

I’ll be honest I totally fell asleep listening to this album. I’m it because it was bad at all, I was just tired. I actually really liked it. I don’t remember any of the song names but I remember the production being top notch and the record sounded great. Def putting it in my library.

Out of Step by Minor Threat
Dec 05 2024

Would I listen again: Best track: Worst track: Surprise awesome track: Weirdest track: Lyrics: No skips?: Cover art cool?: Notes: Kind of scared to listen to this album I know nothing about it or this band other than it’s punk I think? I’m not a huge punk guy even though I love heavy ass metal music. I don’t find ounk that engaging nor do identify with many of themes of punk. I’m anticipating that production will suck. The guitars and drums will sound like shit and the singing will not be pleasant. Uch this is what I was afraid if. The production is better than I thought but I just don’t care about this kind of music. I could t do it. I bailed.

Le Tigre by Le Tigre

Nope.

So by Peter Gabriel
Dec 07 2024

Would I listen again: Yes! Most fav track: in your eyes come one bro Least fav track: that voice again Surprise awesome track: Mercy Street Weirdest track: we do what we’re told Lyrics: unbelievable. No skips?: no. I’d skip the yhe excellent birds song but it’s not bad. Cover art cool?: no Notes: very excited for this. I love Peter Gabriel but don’t know any deep cuts. Red rain beautiful sounding song. Goddamn it Peter Gabriel is so great. Such c a great voice. Sledgehammer is such a bop. That bass is awesome. Don’t give up has a cool vibe. Mercy street was beautiful. Big time funky af. Beautiful album. In your eyes is such a work of art of a song.

It’s not bad but I can’t just listen tj 45 minutes if this shit. Not for me but I get why people want it. For me it’s too light to be heavy and heavy to be light and I’m just not interested in this. I heard about this band growing up like they were some mythic Beatles like geniuses. Shit is good but it’s not mind blowing good. But I’m bailing. Bye.

Dec 09 2024

One of my favs. Have listened multiple times. Even though he is a total piece of shit anti semite lunatic, one of the greatest rap/hip hop albums ever made. Separate the art from the artist scenario.

This is great. I’ve never heard of this person. Like a faster tempo DJ Shadow. I like it a lot. Vibing with this. Love the samples and chill vibe. The main detractor here are the vocals for me. They seem unnecessary mostly. They aren’t signing about anything other than generic love or romance type lyrics. Lots of “babe” and “baby” type lyrics. I’d really dig a fully instrumental album. I think this album will end up being a four star instead of a five star honestly because the vocals are fine but I don’t prefer them. I would prefer this to be fully instrumental because the music is that good. These vocals really ruin this for me. The lyrics of some of these songs are also like really trying to be intellectual they use words like reverie and sheepishness that I don’t think I’ve ever heard in a song before. They aren’t inherently bad but the way they’re kind of wedged into the lyrics seems intentional. Might get bumped to a 3 star. These vocals and lyrics and getting worse for me. The music is so great such a shame.

Rubber Soul by Beatles
Dec 12 2024

Come on it’s the Beatles. And it’s just as they were getting to be like the amazing musician type Beatles not just the pop teenybopper Beatles.

Beggars Banquet by The Rolling Stones
Dec 13 2024

Come on. Give me something hard. Brilliant. One of the greatest bands ever. Sonic beauty.

Ritual De Lo Habitual by Jane's Addiction
Dec 15 2024

I found this album to be very annoying to listen to.

The Dreaming by Kate Bush
Dec 18 2024

So far I find this annoying. I like some Kate bush but overall not a huge fan. Sometimes feels like weird for the sake of weird. I’m gonna bail I think. I don’t want this.

Dec 31 2024

Whoa. This is amazing. I’ve never listened to a whole kinks album. This is super great. This caught my attention. Such cool tunes. Cool guitar ideas and sounds. I was so obsessed with the Beatles I neglected so many other bands of the era. Big Sky is such a cool song. Phenomenal Cat is so fucking weird but I think I am now obsessed with it.

Come Find Yourself by Fun Lovin' Criminals
Jan 05 2025

Fine not particularly exciting. Sounds like music that plays during opening scene montages in a 90s ensemble crime caper movie.
