Unreal opening 1-4 and 6. Singles way better than album tracks. Lost interest in second half. Too long.
This is a 4.5. Highly enjoyable. Never realised his voice was so like Bowie’s.
Often find this genre a bit dull and samey and that happens a bit here but generally it is v good. Some of the instrumental sections/solos absolutely rip.
The kind of hip hop I like. Just fun banger after banger (casual sexism notwithstanding - putting this down to the era and genre). Anything over an hour is too long 95% of the time.
Nice easy listening and background music. May be better on repeat listenings and more active listening. 3.5
Lots of fun. Well over an hour but the rare time where that doesn’t feel like too much.
Essentially just very nice, easy to listen to.
Starts off fun and funky enough, had tunes out by end. Probs won’t return to really
Phwoar. No notes.
Wow. Quite different and interesting prog rock. Just 3 v long tracks (18, 10, 8 mins), first couple kind of broken down into a few parts/movements (but v much all flows as one track). Some crazy instrumentation - just track one features a crazy keyboard solo and some phantom of the opera style organs (amongst so much more). My fave completely new discovery since starting this (about 10 albums in).
Enjoyable enough but middle section leans towards being a little too generic mid dad-rock a la stereophonic etc. Some good tracks though - opening trio and closer esp. Sick keys solo track 6.
Enjoyed this a lot. Sax makes everything way better. Very groovy/funky.
Goes very hard indeed. As with basically anything of this genre do find myself tuning out and finding it a bit samey as I get deeper into the album but think it’s a me problem. Definitely rewarded when tune back in and listen more actively.
Musically a bit unconvinced. Sometimes a little too Beatles-lite and other times a bit too weird and taking Beatles sound too far! May be better on repeat listens when used to weirdness. Lyrically great tho (rare compliment for me) and highly amusing.
Pretty good. Just sounds a bit like noise on early listens. Probably need to spend more time with (how I felt about early listens of wolf alice remember!!) Think I may just not be lyrical (read: sophisticated or deep) enough though..
Phwoarrrrrr. No notes. One of the GOATs.
During track 1: eurgh just another of THOSE albums. Going to be fine but dull. During track 2 (solsbury hill): okay I know this one, actually bit of a banger tbf. Probs an outlier tho. Tracks 3 onwards: okay not super special but actually a fair few bangers
Loses a star cause every song is the same. But what a song.
Some bangers. Not a genre that for me is rewarded on an initial listen. Deffo think worth returning to though.
Okay. Bad moon rising great. Loved it when it made me feel like i was in a country western American bar doing barn dancing.
Enjoyed this a lot. Definitely one I will come back to. Amongst my fave completely new discoveries.
Could deffo see myself becoming a proper Neil Young stan with time, but trying not to before glasto! Do think I prefer his none Crazy horse stuff though. Also think he’s always going to be a grower rather than an instant gratification type artist.
Beautiful. Makes me feel things. Maybe too many things. That rare album that gets better and more engaging as it goes on too.
Obviously coming in with a higher degree of familiarity to most albums on this. Is clearly very nice. Too long, needs a good editor, can get a little dull. Behind 1989, RED and folklore at least. Still v good tho despite sounding negative!
Started doing this to find new favourites. Knew some would be completely new discoveries and others would be ones I was v aware of and knew (and liked) the famous songs but for whatever reason never actually gave a proper listen. This is the latter. Wow. Exactly what I am doing this.
Didn’t realise before now how distinctive his voice was. Enjoyed this a lot more than the crazy horse one. Again, feel like with proper listening over time could become a fave but avoiding this pre Glasto.
Every song does kinda sound the same (although it is a decent enough song). Makes me feel like I’m living in a black and white world and want to dance in an American diner in the 50s
Take your year in Provence and shove it up your ass.
The big bangers do bang and the whole album is good tbf but do just find his voice quite grating. Unlikely to return beyond the big boys.
Solid enough and couple of good tracks but overall nothing that exciting or interesting to me. I feel a bit of a lack of energy (may just be me) but doesn’t really work for me in this type of music.
Not really my genre but fun and enjoyable enough. Piano (and to a lesser extent guitar) solos are easily the highlights.
Bit more muted and not as lovely/dancey as I normally want from electronic music. Some songs do evoke surprising amount of emotion despite often seeming quite simple though tbf. Clint Eastwood obviously does slap.
Sadly not the style of hip-hop/rap I ever really respond well to so probably not the best judge but didn’t take any enjoyment from this at all really. Only bit that stood out/stuck with me at all was the (I think purposeful??) homage to I will survive on release yo’ delf.
Liked this a lot. Would like to explore their other stuff as wasn’t aware of them at all before. Nice eclectic range of tracks means never gets boring.
Starts and ends reasonably well (emphasis on reasonably) and some nice guitars but unfortunately overall just found it quite dull.
Very nice, good new discovery, will deffo come back to this. Love and affection the standout but no lulls or lows really.
Fuck yes. Sick blend of Indian sitar music and and western rock influences. Jumpin’ jack flash cover blew my mind. A couple of the more traditional ones didn’t quite work for me on first listen but still overall banging.
Really loved this. For some reason not what I ever thought Belle and Sebastian sounded like - deffo need to listen to them more. Simply simply lovely.
Very dull. Just like actual The Who live.
Very beautiful and obviously got a stunning voice. Do find it getting a bit dull at times but pretty certain that’s a me problem and my lyrical ineptitude.
