The Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground

Hadn't actually heard this album before despite the reputation, and I'm really happy we did! Was expecting something more classic rock and was pleasantly surprised. Trivia I enjoyed learning as a first timer -Lou Reed was doing an impression of Nico in Sunday Morning, despite it sounding nothing like her -The original album actually being a banana sticker, which could be peeled off to reveal another (peeled) banana -Nico was insane (very racist) I'm going back for round 3 tonight. Considering it a 4.5 and we will see if it becomes a 5 over time

Graceland by Paul Simon
Jan 03 2025

Found out Paul Simon is 5'2, absolutely clearing the short king threshold. Bet you all feel bad for rating it so low now don't ya?

Surfer Rosa by Pixies
Jan 07 2025

It's perfect. Also I'm not writing about it

Melodrama by Lorde
Jan 11 2025

I do not care for lorde and I do not have love for this

Rip It Up by Orange Juice
Jan 13 2025

Pleasant :) One for the jangle pop enjoyers Rip it Up- Punchy opening! Seems like they're leading with the single. It's kind of cute that this is the one song all the members are listed as writers on A Million Pleading Faces- Wow was not expecting that, immediately checked and the member who wrote this one is from Zimbabwe. Mud in your Eye- I think I prefer the higher energy songs on first listen, but still easy listening. Dreamy Turn Away- I forgot to write one for this Breakfast Time- I like this one on principle. This guy gets it. It's breakfast time Flesh Of my Flesh- s a s s y Louise Louise- didn't do a ton for me Hokoyo- I also forgot to write one for this Tenterhook- started digging it more in the second half as it felt more psychedelic A lot of variety to pack into an album, maybe a little front loaded but overall an enjoyable listen. I like the funky synths and would go back for round 2 with this one at work. You could probably make some comparisons to The Talking Heads, there's a lot of crossover you can enjoy between one and the other. Frankly it's nice to have mellow music. I wish I could have given it 3.5 but I'll settle for 4 for the sake of being contrarian because I see you all TRASHING this for no good reason

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Jan 14 2025

I can't say anything people haven't said before because this album is just so beloved, but I have trouble giving it a 5 because there's definitely tracks in between that feel eh to me. I think I actually like Michigan more, both musically and in terms of subject matter.

Illmatic by Nas
Jan 15 2025

Well it's not hard to see why this is so beloved, and there's not much else insight I feel I can provide. Great listen and I'm glad to have learned about something new

The La's by The La's
Jan 16 2025

Son Of A Gun- This is not so bad, maybe it will be like R.E.M I Can't Sleep- Also not awful, but there just isn't any build-up or tension as far as I'm concerned Timeless Melody- John is repeating the end of the verses that rhyme from the kitchen. Running into the same sort of problems I had with the other tracks Liberty Ship- this is the point where it started to sink in There She Goes - This song single-handedly kind of poisoned the album for me going in AND I JUST CANT CONTAYAYAYAIN Doledrum-not the biggest fan Feelin- Sounds a little like the Friends theme Way Out- A little better than the others, I think it has a bit more momentum but still falls flat for me Freedom song- Absolutely not. im in hell Failure - No Looking Glass - imagine all the people, living for today....They are playing the same thing faster now, get me OUT I had to listen twice to do my due diligence before I talked shit about it and honestly ended up disliking it more on the second listen LOL These songs just feel like they go nowhere. They have these classic sort of British with a capital B pop structures and just repeat the same thing over and over at the same tempo and none of it is interesting for me. There isn't really any tension or release. Saying nothing in a nothing tone of voice. Metronome hell. Feels like drinking groundwater.

Cross by Justice
Jan 17 2025

I kind of wish I could like this as much as I used to, but too much time has passed and I'm just not that person anymore. Still groovy, just not totally my cup of tea nowadays

Hotel California by Eagles
Jan 18 2025

Hotel California- This shit is so funny. People in 1976 were irreversibly changed hearing this New Kid in Town- pretty comfortable and very self-pitying Life in the Fast Lane- xbox racing game tutorial music Wasted time- lol Wasted time (reprise) -LOL YOU THOUGHT Victim of Love- i forgot to write something Pretty Maids All in a Row- women break his heart frequently Try and Love Again- going back for more women Last Resort- It was a different time but man. My gf moving to Colorado is just like the Native Americans. I do like the little minor note he hits but this is not it. Kind of a strange note to end the album on It's dramatic and comes across full of itself, which in the first few songs I can enjoy but the rest of it doesn't do much for me. I can see the appeal, but can't help but find the lyrics a bit insufferable and the sound itself unimpressive Read on the wiki that apparently they had to stop recording this album because Black Sabbath was in the next room (also funny)

Jan 19 2025

oh im only a POOR LITTLE BEGGAR GIRL!!! another 2.5 w the caveat that the eagles should have been a 2. Just don't really have any desire to go back to this, even though I didn't hate it

The Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground

Figure 8 by Elliott Smith
Jan 21 2025

Edited because my friend turned me around on Elliot smith

LP1 by FKA twigs
Jan 22 2025

The reputation of this album precedes it for me. I've only ever heard people talk about FKA Twigs as though she is untouchable, but most of the tracks I've heard haven't really left the biggest impression on me. I liked it more than I thought I would, but struggle to have an emotional connection to the songs and was left kind of wishing she was a bit freakier lyrically to match the sound. It's kind of nostalgic to hear this kind of production after so long shout out to the single guy credited as "demon voice" on the first track. Really torn between 2.5 and 3 at the moment, it makes me feel nostalgic but at the same time I get the impression I'm going to forget these

Private Dancer by Tina Turner
Jan 24 2025

I'm sorry Tina Read a lot about her online now but the album was just not something I would be eager to go back to

Parachutes by Coldplay
Jan 25 2025

Pretty chill but I am not sure if I would remember "Yellow" or "Trouble" (favorite off the album if we're picking) if they weren't on the radio so often growing up. Considered making a joe biden amv to this

Jan 28 2025

for some reason this took like 4 attempts listening to get through it but i really enjoyed it

Heaux Tales by Jazmine Sullivan
Jan 29 2025

Didn't connect with me very much. It's a good concept, but I didn't feel like the lyrics fleshed out women in a particularly nuanced or interesting way.

Violent Femmes by Violent Femmes
Jan 31 2025

"In 2007, Gano angered Ritchie by selling advertising rights for the classic 'Blister in the Sun' to Wendy's." Talk about beef!

The Modern Lovers by The Modern Lovers

Maybe a 4, trying to review things retroactively

Dirt by Alice In Chains

"The 43-second 'Iron Gland' was developed out of a guitar riff that Cantrell would play that annoyed the other band members, so he created the song and promised to never play the guitar riff again."

Bubble And Scrape by Sebadoh
Apr 22 2026

When this album is good, it's GOOD, but when it is bad it's dire. Highlights: Soul and Fire, Two Days, Happily Divided, Cliche, Sacred Attention, Sixteen

Unhalfbricking by Fairport Convention
Apr 23 2026

A lot of variety in this one! Was taken in early on, but gradually lost attention. Liked "Autopsy" a lot

Scum by Napalm Death
Apr 24 2026
The Man Who by Travis
Apr 25 2026

well the final track is a surprise, but the rest of it is mostly forgettable and kinda sounds like Coldplay, who I do not have any particular love for.

Djam Leelii by Baaba Maal
Apr 26 2026

3.5?? At times joyful and at times mournful, but always hypnotizing. Really enjoyed it

Heavy Weather by Weather Report
Apr 27 2026

I didn't hate this but it ended up feeling forgettable. Feels a little unfair because I had a Rippingtons phase, but really just no desire to go back to this

Rip It Up by Orange Juice
Apr 30 2026

Second time around on this one and I think I like it more!
