Skylarking
XTCGreat songs, great production. Impeccable record
Great songs, great production. Impeccable record
Listened to this on vinyl. Standout tracks are great as always, but the album tracks I find a little boring.
Great record, both poppy and experimental at times
Impossible to understand historical impact of Eddie’s playing, one of the great debut albums of all time
Thoughtful and funky hip hop, good sample work and interesting messages. Pretty good record
More classic rock than expected, Springsteen-ish at times, John Cafferty-ish . Sounds like indie rock of its time. Generally ok
Every track is a classic
Solid power pop at times, a little punk-y and manic at others. Overall a pretty great record
Some cool songs, too orchestrated
Some cool songs, too orchestrated
Very groovy, more “western” sounding than anticipated
So many great songs, amazing melodies, totally original
Don’t get it, lo-if bad folk
Great album
Seems pretty generic to e
Pretty interesting songs, can’t really enjoy his voice.
Just what its says - Jazz Samba - great for what it is
Better than I thought it would be, pretty decent classic country record
Not what i thought, kind of power pop sometimes, too post modern at other times
Best combination of punk attitude and musicianship
Better production than most Billy Bragg stuff
Typical Neil Young, some cool songs but generally just ok
Subdued indie pop
Electronic and sparse, a little too post modern for me at times
Decent soul/r&b music, interesting instrumentation
Typical new order album
Quintessential big band
Weirder and more psychedelic than I was expecting. Didn’t recognize any songs on the whole album. Very odd Beach Boys record
Better than I remember, may need to revisit
Great songs, great production. Impeccable record
Better songs and more interesting that I was expecting
What I would expect - decent southern rock, sounds very predictable in hindsight
The only Neil Young album I really like
Subdued, a little boring
Cool guitar, melodic songs are better
One of the greatest live albums ever
80s classic, great tunes, innovative mix of blues and synth grooves
Feels a bit forced, and kind of like show tunes…interesting but not great
Did not connect to this at all. I’m sure it was important in combining folk, rock and traditional Irish music, but I did not really enjoy listening to it.
Such an amazing voice, was only familiar with hello, but the album felt very consistent and polished, nice listen
Similar to Kraftwerk, maybe a little more “rock” at times, didn’t really care for the vocals too much, but still pretty great
Pretty decent new wave, wasn’t familiar with any of the songs
Kind of hard to judge without historical context, but Under My Thumb was a true standout on this album
Decent new wave, slightly boring
Interesting album, not really something that I would want to listen to regularly, but the production was very good.
Classic English folk music
Not really much ginger baker on here. Decent Afro/jazz/funk
Seems to be one of those “important” historical recordings. Sounds mostly live, just guitar/voice folk/story telling.
Not as raw as the earlier Elvis Costello, moving more towards complex power pop. Excellent record, can here the beginnings of Costello’s future evolution.
Love the grooves, not too crazy about the vocals/rapping at times. Still, pretty enjoyable album. It’s also insane how often Genius Of Love has been sampled.
Better than I was expecting. At times it can get a little generically “indie” sounding, but the songwriting is good and the arrangements are especially well thought out.
Interesting record, almost ambient at times, lots of electronica, not a lot of memorable songs (at least after one listen)
Meh. Take Me Out and This Fire are pretty good, the rest of the album just didn’t really make an impression
