Speakerboxxx/The Love Below
OutKast
The production on this album is absolutely stellar. Blends different genres and sounds. Some of my fave tracks:
DISC 1
- GhettoMusick
- The Way You Move
- Bust with Killer Mike's amazing verse
- War
- Church (mostly for the instrumentals)
- Knowing
- Flip Flop Rock (love the way Andre goes off)
- Reset
DISC 2
- The Love Below (Intro) (what a fucking fantastic intro onggggg)
- Love Hater
- Happy Valentine's Day (the bridge is immaculate)
- Prototype
- She Lives In My Lap
- Roses (banger)
- Pink & Blue (holy shit)
- Love In War
- Dracula's Wedding
The features are also sublime; it elevates the features to be on this record rather than them elevating the record... if that makes sense.

Purple Rain New Faves
- Let's Go Crazy
- The Beautiful Ones (that ending goes crazy)
- Computer Blue
- Darling Nikki
- I Would Die 4 U
- Baby I'm a Star
- Purple Rain obviously
I do like Take Me With U and When Doves Cry buy the others hit just for me more I think.
I heard Purple Rain before the album and for me Purple Rain does not fit the vibe of the album π but it also does? I don't know. The vibe is really fun and funky with some slower tracks more like sexy ballads but Purple Rain is just... heart wrenching. The main meat of the album was just so so good. This is what the 80s feels like even if I've never lived through it. Honestly I only give 5s if I like every song... and I do. It's a 5.

It reminds me of a soundtrack to a movie or a random show hahaha it's so fun. The songs are really fun to dance too, and it flowed through but the songs sounded the same at points ans the lyrics are bit idk... Okay. It's well produced.
Fave tracks:
- G Funk Intro (I love that every album so far as such a good Intro song)
- Murder On The Case
- Pump Pump
Honourable mention: Lodi Dodi was okies but the line "I PUT SOME BUBBLES IN THE TUB SO I CAN TAKE A BUBBLE BATH" scratches my brain ππ Tha Shiznit & Aint No Fun was funny as well. However the last part of the album felt like a bit of a chore to get through ngl. I don't think it's my favourite rap album but I can hear how it's influential and significant to ofher rap albums, I hear it's influence in many later 90s and 00s records. But as per, influences get innovated.

Neil Young
On The Beach Faves
- Walk On
- Revolution Blues π
- Vampire Blues π
- Motion Pictures (Not a slow song fan usually but the instrumentals is ASMR)
Like as usual, a nice introduction to the vibe of the album with Walk On which I really enjoyed. Some of the songs sound like background songs to a movie scene in the 70s or something (since the album is from then). I did listen to the remastered version for the in real time pleasure which was so good. I didn't love every song but the Faves that stood out songs to me I ABSOLUTELY ADORED. The cover reminds me of Neil Shute's On The Beach book cover? Maybe it was intentional. Great book tbf. I give it a 4, despite not loving most of the record, I like that it was a chill listen. The lyrics were interesting ngl and I like the record was sonically cohesive. Ambulance Blues is giving Bobby Dylan π

DISC ONE
- Tea For Two
- Pt.1 Festival Junction (the best one)
- Pt. 2 Blues to Be There (amazing)
- Pt. 3 Newport Up
- Diminuendo In Blue (meaty boy)
DISC TWO
- Jeep's Blues
- Tulip or Turnip
- Skin Deep (magnum opus max)
Honourable Mentions:
- Day In, Day Out (omg vocals?)
So I knew it would end eventually... The amazing intros run ruined by the good old π¦
π¦
. It's terrible. I hate it. Greasy ass anthem. So I had to skip it. Ofc I'm not gonna include the Duke announces, I know it's a live album, but it just takes forever I just wanna slurp the meat. Black and Tan fantasy sounded like a horse... However, as the album progressed I fell deeper in love... just wow. I rarely listen to jazz despite me enjoying the genre, but this makes me want to LIVE BREATHE EAT RAVE Jazz ya feel?! It's just... ugh such a quintessential shower, morning routine, driving in the dark listening. At any point of the day, if ones of these comes on I'm just happier. However, the stand out tracks are imo the masterpieces but the rest sound very much like random vibes? Idk. To me its a 3.5 tho i cant rate it that... So it's a low 4. For the standout tracks simply because they are I.M.M.A.C.U.L.A.T.E

Disc 1
- Back in the USSR
- Glass Onion
- While My Guitar Gently Weeps
- Happiness Is A Warm Gun
- Why Won't We Do It In The Road?
DISC 2
- Birthday π§ββοΈπ
- Yer Blues
- Helter Skelter
- Savoy Truffle
I barely know Beatles songs except the classics like Hey Jude and Yellow Submarine. I can definitely hear how influential this album was as many bands seem to follow the sonic sound post '68. It was a fun listen but I inly like a handful of songs from both discs, it was another meaty gritty album. 3.5 is what I'd give it coz I'd listen to it if I was doing housework but it's not something I'd sit down and enjoy in it's entirety. I give it props for being the more interesting one since Speakerboxx. Happiness Is A Warm Gun sounds like Matthew mcconaughey idk why. And I dislike both Beyonce blackbird and Beatles. Birthday was super explosive and for it to be followed by Yer Blues is just π€π§ββοΈπ§ββοΈ

Bruce Springsteen
Fave Songs
- Johnny 99
- Open All Night
- Reason To Believe (the Harmonica was kept minimal and it was also the last song lmao)
As someone who doesn't like Bob Dylan (a few songs idm) a long Harmonica intro (anything more than 5 seconds is long) is just... already starting off weak. I proper strapped in and thought oh god I won't like this album. The songs I liked had some sort of image in my mind. Definitely something you put on while you're drink driving in a chevy through the Snake Pass or something like this album is giving #iwanttokms. Anyways, I prefer Born In The USA and I don't even care for Springsteen. I prefer Neil Young's brand of sad white man with guitar. Atlantic City was okies but I just hated Harmonica... I couldn't understand what he said in a couple of songs. State Trooper needed a beat drop. All in all, it's a 2.

Fave Songs:
- Feelin' The Same Way
- Shoot The Moon
- Lonestar
- I've Got To See You Again (best song)
- One Flight Down
- Nightingale
Honourable Mentions
- Turn Me On (her voice is so groovy)
A very chill and soft opening. A refreshing change where we finally have a female artist and we're back in the millennium! What a new and interesting artist to add to my list. Sonically, the album is very lovely and easy to listen to. I do feel like im on the spring of 2000s, as the sun begins to set perhaps at the aftermath of a barbecue. The acoustic chords were familiar but also new. I'm not a slow song enthusiast by any means but I enjoyed this album. Norah's voice is just wonderful, sets your body lighter. I don't think I'd listen to the album again unless I was feeling sad because it feels like upbringing. Some tracks wasnt anything to wrote home about i feel, a lot of the songs individually could have been swapped and rearranged. I'd give it a 3.5 but it'll be a low 4 as I'd listen to it again but the fave songs really stood out the most to me.

Fave Songs:
- Girls & Boys
- End of a Century
- Parklife
- London Loves
- Trouble In The Message Centre
Honourable Mentions
- To The End chorus is p good
It's a very British, kid in the 90s album. The tracks that I know I enjoyed the most. But the others was alright. My fave tracks were the ones I liked the lyrics the most coz of its dry sense of humour. I didn't really enjoy the Mr. Albarn being weird again interludes, some were kinda annoying. I said this to a friend - he's like British Kanye without the nazism. Gorillaz is his best project imo. I do think for what it is, Parklife is a reflection of an artist's dissatisfaction with general life and capitalism. I like its core, i enjoy that it was sonically interesting but still very Blur. But it's not an album I would probably return to. Very Tony Hawk soundtrack, but like for one of the bad games.

U2
I legit knew 2 U2 songs before this. And now I knowore than 2 songs but probably like 4 songs now. It was alright. Started off strong IMHO but then it gradually descended into something I kinda didn't care for. I did like the instrumentals for a few of the songs, loved the industrial drums type sound a few times but overall I liked the instrumentals. Bono's voice is just... okay. It felt more annoying, cloying and trying too hard. Maybe I just don't like Bono lol
Fave Songs:
- Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses
- The Fly (I think it was sunny that day)
- Acrobat (the drums on this are so Tool vibes idk why)
For Love Is Blindness, I prefer the Jack version. Not sorry.

Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo
Devo
It solidified which song I liked because the entire album was rancid to my ears and my overall sense of world judgement. To be fair, it's just a white guy shakily crying out lyrics over a weird 70s vibe rock beat. We love that right? I liked that it had spirit, something fun and forgettable kind of like a messy one night stand but it did drag on. It also left a bitter sad taste in my mouth which one night stands often do. Im glad i can leave this in 1993.
The lyrics are unhinged, unserious but overall unfunny. It's giving 'look at me I'm edgy and you won't get it haha I'm so satirical right" - No.

Whoa!!! I'm glad we're back partying because jesus christ... I cannot believe this is here on 1001 albums in the sea of mediocre men with a guitar and a drama of destroying art and music!!
From start to finish, this is genuinely a fun record with immaculate vibes. I also love the art cover that looks like it was made on Paint then important to Photoshop. Every instrumental on each song was wonderful, delicious and an ascension spiritually. I liked that it explored a night of partying, how we start with such an expensive eargasm, attractive and exciting and we descend through the night into a bit of filth, a bit of paint and colour and then a final ending that's just π€π»ππ
Fave Songs:

Dolly Parton
This is why Dolly Parton is that b*tch. These new girls could NEVER, they can try but they can't. I listened to this while playing Red Dead Redemption 2 and it enhanced my experience. She's a wonderful singer and writer and her songs are catchy.
Fave Songs:
- Travelling Man (banger)
- My Blue Tears (banger!)
- She Never Met A Man
- The Way I See You
- Here I Am (banger)
- A Better Place To Live (great end!)
I didn't love every song but they all sounded wonderful, it flowed so well that I felt like I was listening to several long songs. It's not that they're the same, the album just felt really good listening to it. The songs are shorter than I expected but nonetheless still very well written and well produced.

The Smashing Pumpkins
Always had a weird relationship with Smashing Pumpkins... This album had a very grunge vibe with a mix of Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains (two bands I love deeply). It began and ended very well. I really liked the album and the atmosphere it produced upon listening to this while it was somewhat a sunny day. Towards the end I think I finally solidified what I wanted to get from this album and what it achieved.
It's a freaking π€π» album. Loved it.
Fave Songs:

I thought they did boring songs π surprisingly it was better than I thought. A lot better. I really enjoyed many of the songs, they were fun and inviting. Gave me summer vibes. I also likes the fact the artists let the instrumentals kind of 'speak' for them, the record really shone the most when the band were just going to town (I.e Setting Me Up), even the moodier grounded songs had this very cool cadence to it. I also liked that the vocals were funky and fun, really emphasises the lyrics with the instrumentals. Johnny Cash
I guess when I'm listening on my own, I prefer a studio record. I've never listened to Johnny Cash in full but I did like the atmosphere of this album, sometimes a live album is okies. The lyrics are very good, very picturesque with a unique storytelling that's entirely Ca$h. Love going back to early Turner lyrics a little bit dark humour and pessimism with a bit of whatever drug he was probably on. It's gritty, a little bit punk but with that Steel City cadence you get from AM and their screams counterpart BMTH. Also I love when an album has track names longer than Adrien Brody's speeches.

Actually love the mixed media-esque of the album cover. What a really interesting Western-y album. It gave me a lot of memories I don't have, this weird nostalgia like I was riding on a motorbike across the Midwest and it's also really weirdly sad? Like it's got this desperate grip on hope and an in-between of imagination and reality. I've never heard this man before but wow Gene Clark's voice is really... I dunno, he sings to me weirdly. We've not had a hip hop in a while during this challenge that I fully expected another weird white man singing album. Perhaps I'm a but biased because I've been waiting to clean my ears (Although Ms Simone did a really good job). I love the lyrics and I love a nasty 90s rap beat.
Faves:
- D. Original
- Da Bichez
- Aint The Devil Happy (best one)
- My Mind Spray
