Nevermind by Nirvana

Nevermind is a raw, electrifying masterpiece that defined a generation and still resonates deeply. The album’s sound is a perfect storm of elements that create something both cathartic and comforting. Distorted guitars, crashing drums, and Kurt Cobain’s tortured vocals make the album unforgettable. The music stays with you, echoing emotions you may not have words for. More than just an album, Nevermind is a time capsule, capturing the raw, unfiltered energy of youth. Kurt Cobain’s voice: sometimes an anguished scream, sometimes a weary murmur, but always full of emotion. Hearing Nevermind as a child, with my parents singing along, made it feel even more powerful. It was the sound of frustration and freedom, and its nostalgia only grows stronger with time. Back then, I felt it without fully understanding it—now, I can see how perfectly all the elements fit together. A true sonic masterpiece that shaped both music and memories.

Rod Stewart's Every Picture Tells A Story, I thought it was pretty vibey tbh, and I enjoyed the rhythm, so I'm giving it a 4/5 1

Brown Sugar by D'Angelo
Mar 13 2025

Listening to Brown Sugar by D’Angelo for the first time felt like stepping into a warm, soulful haze. The album oozes smooth, effortless groove, blending R&B, jazz, and hip-hop in a way that feels both nostalgic and timeless. It’s the kind of album that slows time down, making every moment feel a little more soulful.

Green Onions by Booker T. & The MG's

Decent Album, an old time classic! Some of the songs were amazing but overall quite good

The Clash by The Clash

Not too shabby

After listening to the album, I would say I liked most of the songs, my fav were Australia, Shangri-La & Nothing to Say. Unfortunately I wasn’t really a fan of the song Mr. Churchill Says, nor am I a fan of him directly. The overall narrative, melody and vocals, reminded me of another band called FEET, as well as The Rolling Stones. But yeah cool vibe, and piano section in Australia is dope!

Not for me, and will be the lowest score I've given so far!

The BEST

Eliminator by ZZ Top
Mar 21 2025

ZZ Top’s Eliminator is a defining album of the 80s, fusing blues rock with slick synthesisers and a radio-friendly edge. Packed with iconic tracks like Sharp Dressed Man and Legs, it’s a fun, stylish, and energetic ride that cemented the band’s place in rock history.

Since I Left You by The Avalanches
Mar 27 2025

Listening to it as a concept album, it’s easy to get lost in its swirling textures and playful transitions. The way each track melts into the next creates a feeling of being on a surreal, nostalgic adventure, almost like flipping through radio stations as a child, each one carrying fragments of past memories. For me, the emotional core of the album comes from how it balances joy and melancholy. Flight Tonight is one of the most hypnotic and transportive tracks on Since I Left You. The way the track opens with that looping, swirling sample instantly sets the mood. The pulsing rhythm and chopped-up vocal snippets give it a sense of motion, like turbulence both literal and emotional. Where as, tracks like* Since I Left You* and* Electricity* radiate warmth, like a perfect summer day. Similar to Lemon Jelly's A Tune For Jack & The Staunton Lick. The most enjoyable part of listening was surrendering to the album’s flow. Never knowing what’s coming next but trusting that it would make sense in the grand scheme of things. It’s one of those albums where you can hear something new with every listen, catching tiny details you missed before.

I quite enjoyed this album, very different to what I’m used to in terms of old folk rock, but was definitely cool listening to as I felt like I was taken on a journey.

Imagine by John Lennon

Jim Lemon's album Imagine was a really good listen, and the vocals were timeless

After The Gold Rush by Neil Young
Apr 18 2025

This was my first real listen to Neil Young, and After the Gold Rush hit differently than I expected. The whole album feels kind of dreamy but heavy at the same time, like you're floating through someone's memories. His voice isn't perfect, but that's what makes it feel so real. His voice felt very raw in a sense. The lyric "Look at Mother Nature on the run in the 1970s"stuck out for me. It just felt weirdly relevant, but also distant. Overall I found the vocals with the melody very poetic and in the moment. Felt rather personal at points, but still very wholesome. The melodies are simple but emotional. Soft piano, slow guitar, nothing too polished, and it honestly made me feel a little sad in a way I didn’t expect. It reminded me of other old bands who just wrote music straight from the gut without trying to be anything fancy. After hearing this, I get why people say Neil Young a great musician. As he deffo had a long lasting impression on me. Knowing how to rate this is really hard, so 5 would be my overall score, having felt the album both, emotionally and personally. (edited)
