Illmatic
NasWoah, another treasure that I missed. The rap is crisp and clever, the beats and music are inventive and interesting, a real masterpiece that I never heard until now.

It was life changing in 1986, when I found a cheap cassette in the re it’d store at the mall. I studied every riff on this record. Magical.
Wow, I really missed it the first go-round on this one! Thoughtful, tough, vulnerable, melodic … will rework to this one!
Of course, it’s seminal. I never noticed how expertly produced it is. Still, When the Levee Breaks …
I’m embarrassed that this album disappointed me when I bought it in the early 2000s because it wasn’t enough like OK Computer. It’s delicate and powerful, and reveals more details in each listen.
Love Booker T, but it didn’t do it for me
I don’t think I ever listened carefully to Mercy Street before, wow, atmospheric, emotional, powerful.
Loved it more than expected. The hits were only the beginning., Some okay fast, thrash songs, too.
Great guitar playing, cool songs, highly recommend
Did not love. I remember the hits, and they were okay, but the other songs… they are talented people, but goes didn’t do it for me.
Good record, liked Parachutes better.
I listened to this one twice, one sheet the other. Clever, catchy music; the pointed yet hopeful lyrics; the range of emotions covered. A straight up masterpiece.
Great jams, super talented musicians, loved this, unexpected pleasure
A solid record, pretty cool songs, once I adjusted to Lou’s voice I liked it
Good album, but Hurt drives this into great territory
A solid record, with cool sounds and neat melodies. I don’t think I appreciated the guitar work in New Order before.
Really enjoyed it, full of clever music
A classic
A classic: an inventive, funny, charming love story about robots. There’s a reason “ Do You Realize?” is the state song of Oklahoma.
Cool record, Karen O’s vocals are spectacular and the music behind it is shifting and interesting
As great as I remembered. A feast of sounds and imagery, coming together with real soul to it. Love.
How did I miss this one? Cool songs, great lyrics, melodic and playful. I will return to this one.
Solid Attractions record, a few bangers, overall a fun listen
Loved it! I never listened to much early Dan, but this is a terrific record.
Loved it, always fun, but wow the first and last song go on forever!!
Great vibe, classic tunes, was great to listen to but I won’t return to it.
A fun listen
A really great record, atmospheric without being gloomy
Boy howdy, I mean to tell ya, that blew chunks.
I never listened to this before. It’s what Limp Bizkit is shooting for: a seamless connection between 90s metal and 90s rap. It’s executed well, but it isn’t for me: I’m too long in the tooth to enjoy adolescent rage.
Perfect from start to finish. Even the long jam Sex Machine was fun to listen to.
It’s interesting and kinda clever, but it left me cold
Just as wonderful as I remembered. An American anthology of love, life, loss …. Still resonates almost 50 years later.
A solid enjoyable dance record
Woah, another treasure that I missed. The rap is crisp and clever, the beats and music are inventive and interesting, a real masterpiece that I never heard until now.
A good Pixies record
I forgot how full of interesting sounds and songs this record is.
Still moving, visionary, sweeping, beautiful. I think it’s the best Bowie record (apologies to Ziggy Stardust and Blackstar)
What a joyous, fun sound, with many hippie flavors and textures. And Bang a Going and Jeepster always deliver.
One of the finest albums in the history of recorded music. Stevie’s lyrics were never sharper, his voice never clearer, the music never more interesting and gorgeous. When I need instant joy, I turn to side 1 and 2 of this double album; it solves all my problems. I appreciate the jams like Black Man and Ngiculeta more now than I did when I was younger and only wanted the pop songs.
Not bad, interesting Neil Yoong cover
A solid, thoughtful, interesting record. My daughter loves it. As a person who’s been through a divorce, I could not listen to it twice.
What a voice! She really gives a lot in each reading of a Gershwin tune here, often breathing life into old source material.
I was bowled over by this record: playful and inventive, rockish and jazzy, all held together by Miles’ interesting trumpet lines. Awesome.
All of my friends loved this when it came out, but I never listened to it. It was like a very 80s brain of a Velvets album, and I enjoyed it
It’s an enjoyable, solid 70s Beach Boys record. There are some real gems: Til I Die and Surf’s Up are obvious, but Feel Flows, Long Promised Road, and Disney Girls are classics as well.
Cool music, some of it hasn’t aged well, I certainly didn’t appreciate it at the time.
What brilliant tunes with amazing production … imagine what Buddy would have been like in 1967…
