Hits hard and fast. Definitely influential and the blueprint for punk to come. Blitzkrieg Bop is obviously the most memorable, but primarily because the rest of the album continues the song to create a thirty minute piece that doesn't end.
Chain Saw, 53rd & 3rd, and Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue are some other highlights.
Was I happy to listen to this? Yes! Would I listen to this regularly? No.
Very atmospheric. Easy to listen to, but not extremely memorable.
Sounds so similar to the Beatles! Care of Cell 44 is an instant hit. Really goes to show that British rock was doing something special in the 60's. The studio (Abbey Road) really shines through too. And of course, Time of the Season remains an all time classic.
Very solid album. Starts off strong and holds up very well until the end. The last bits do fall off for me. Not the biggest fan of the live performance at the end. But it's hard to argue with classic hits like Cecilia, The Boxer, and Baby Driver.
Brighton Rock goes so hard. Killer Queen has amazing vocals. The album slows down at the third track, but is still pleasant to listen to. In the Lap of the Gods is a very nice ending though. Overall mixed. Unforgettable songs mixed with background noise.
I like conceptual albums like this that include radio station "swapping". Similar to the Weekend's recent album. Sweet Life is a standout for me. I really wanted to like this, but it just isn't quite my style honestly. If there were more satisfying harmonies I think it would've pushed it up a star.
Highlights: Long Black Limousine, In the Ghetto, Suspicious Minds
Elvis' return to music. Historically, a very important album for both Rock N' Roll, and Elvis himself. There are some good tracks on here, but they are unfortunately drowning in bloat. The gospel fusion is pretty strong and sometimes works. But often, it just sounds like easy listening background music.
Some classic folk!
Highlights: River Man, Saturday Sun
Drake's voice is hauntingly beautiful. Should listen to this in the fall.
Very good album. Does not overstay its welcome and hits hard with classics like A Hard Day's Night, And I Love Her, If I Fell, and Can't Buy Me Love. Would rate this 4.5 stars if I could.
So raw! Another album that I really want to like, but just doesn't really hit for me. Really good ideas that are further explored in indie rock later down the line. The mixing is very weird imo. Volume is all over the place and kinda takes me out of the experience. Not really any major highlights besides Rid of Me and Yuri-G
I actually really like this. I've heard Stevie Wonder here and there, but never really explored his discography. This album is so chill and makes for great listening while focusing. Almost like a lofi playlist. Gives Persona 5 vibes. (or Persona 5 give Stevie Wonder vibes)
First three songs are really strong for me. Golden Lady doesn't quite meet what I'm looking for, but then of course Higher Ground comes in to pick things back up.
Feeling a bit guilty. I probably should've given this album more attention than I actually did. The vibes are great and I really liked the first song especially. Not the biggest fan of the vocals but not everything can be perfect.
Listened to the Mono versions. Wow, what a classic. Highlights like Wouldn't It Be Nice, Sloop John B, and God Only Knows are surrounded by some of the greatest sounds of psychedelic rock. I'm finding that I really like prog and this is certainly an early exploration of that genre.
Straight up did not enjoy the first half. I like a lot of individual Police songs but this album is rough for me... I think they are making an attempt to sound exotic? Just not working. Mother is GRATING. I am viscerally repulsed by this.
The only saving grace in this album is I'll Be Watching You.
Not quite sure why this album is in the list, but I'm not mad about it. Favourite Shirts is a pretty fun start. The rest is easy listening.
It's Green Day. What else can I say?
Honestly sounds like the same song over and over. Don't get me wrong. It's a good and easy listening song, but still. The same song over and over. Radio Free Europe is a bop though.
Meh. Good intentions. Musically is very boring
I thought I would like this more than I actually did...
They don't call it noise rock for nothing. Working from the concept, it's not bad. Just not a concept that I'm necessarily into. I do appreciate something that requires a little more pretentiousness to enjoy haha
Enjoyed the sounds! Vocals were a little weak imo. Fun stuff.
It's a vibe. A good vibe. But a repetitive vibe.
Great love songs! Love Makin' Whoope!
First song and I was jamming. But it did get a little old. Idk. very modernist, but somehow not super deep? Good musical ideas but not explored enough for me.
Not really in the mood for this today, but I do really like it. Feels like SMT. Charli xcx. 1989 is crazy early for it's time wow. It's some good stuff. I guess I like acid house. Deserves 4 stars
Not much to say. It's good. Not bad.
Layla is really good. Everything is pretty mid... Good blues adjacent rock, but just not very exciting.
