Sweaty, gay, and horny hits. First half is pretty good, second half is a bit too 80s ballads for me, they don’t hold up or maybe I don’t do enough cocaine.
This feels like Chase bank at a pride parade. I like the attempt at a message but trying to convey an anti-capitalist message with squeaky clean layered vocals and guitars feels like you’re just here to sell.
They write bangers but don’t connect with me emotionally.
Adele has an amazing voice, I absolutely love the album “21”. I don’t like this album though, it feels bland and emotionless.
Enjoyable! Grungy, grimey, incredible roadtrip music of the American countryside. It doesn’t overstay its welcome and doesn’t try anything too be anything it’s not. Not something I’d revisit but I liked it.
Lyrically, this album is awesome. Musically, I love the production, awesome mend of noise, rock, and heavy beats. It’s in your face, abrasive, noisy, and funky. But personally, it’s not my thing. I get why this is a masterpiece but it doesn’t stand the test of time for me.
I don’t know how to put into words how this album portrays so much emotion with such simple repetitive riffs and sounds. But it feels like my
I enjoyed this! Not sure I would revisit a ton but great background music and has some nifty experimentation. I’m a fan of the artist ‘Little People’ so it was cool to listen to one of his influences
I’ll have to revisit. I don’t dislike but it didn’t grab me either, fun mix of genres.
I think there are some good songs, I think the genre blending is great, I think it was ahead of its time, but it’s not for me.
After 3 listens it hasn’t resonated with me unfortunately.
Pretty good album, doesn’t connect with me but she’s got great vibes and jams. Way too long though.
I think I need more time with this one but I enjoy it. It’s classic 80s Brit pop, it has good atmosphere. In some ways it’s ahead of its time, in others it feels dated.
It rips, it feels, it smacks. Honestly just a classic, not perfect, but a pleasure to listen to.
Honestly, it’s a time capsule of the 80s. Everything from the sounds to the cover, it fills the role of being a time piece. It has some awesome hits but a lot doesn’t connect with me.
Her voice is incredible but I really can’t get into the music, feels dated and quite grating to me.
Without understanding the lyrics, it sounds like I’m sitting at a French cafe on the street, smoking a cigarette and downing wine and espresso on an empty stomach. The sun is low and I’m peering off into the distance imagining my life as I fall in love with every (adult) French girl that walks by.
After reading the synopsis, it makes sense it’s a controversial lolita album. The album makes you feel, regardless of the context. With the context brings more feelings of disgust and taboo intrigue. It’s art, it does its job of making you feel shit. Enjoyable music for sure, if the music wasn’t so good this would be shit by content alone.
It’s super camp but it doesn’t connect with me. I think it’s a product of its time and hasn’t aged well, or it’s just too commercial for me. I’m sure in the right place (mostly a drag show) this would be enjoyable but as a casual listen it doesn’t do it for me.
Also calling this the top gay album of all time is insulting when Village People, Elton John, and even George Michael exist.
This is so good. It’s experimental, brooding, emotional. Easy 5.
Not bad, not great. I’ve enjoyed the Arctic Monkeys stuff I’ve listened to over the years but it doesn’t grab me as amazing or anything.
Unfortunately, didn’t grab ahold of me. I like the post-rock/punk vibes and I would revisit.
The first half holds up to today’s standards. Incredible opening track, worth 4 stars alone for that.
The first half holds up to today’s standards. Incredible opening track, worth 4 stars alone for that.
It’s like the noiserock version of indie/edm. I’m not really into it, I’ve like other Radiohead stuff but this one I find just meh.
This was really enjoyable. Singer songwriter, casual very easy listen, yet songs have more meaning than the simple structure it presents. Burn on really hits home as a PA born person where pollution has ruined so much of the natural beauty.
I had to listen to this a couple of times to really feel it click. I’m not sure why but the choppy vocals really kept me from loving this record. But this last listen it clicked.
What an incredible piece of history that caused all the drama and controversy it should have. The songs are punchy and grungy.
4.5/5
I don’t know how to feel about this, I used to like RHCP but it feels dated and their style can be so exhausting. It’s got good hits but I’m tired of them so I’m not sure I can listen to this honestly.
But ding ding dong dong
A little repetitive but there’s a lot of gold in here. I’d like to explore more but it’s a little exhausting to listen to.
Incredible album. Concise and fantastic variety, enjoyed a lot more than I expected! Would buy.
I wasn’t a huge fan of the tracks with vocals but the ambient tracks are 10/10. Incredible vibes.
Incredible passionate work, I’m not the biggest fan but man is this album gorgeous. Emotionally the lyrics hit and I resonate with the message. Unfortunately, the music doesn’t resonate much but I think that could change with more listens. 4 for now but could improve!
Absolute mastery, sexy, fun, engaging.
Not sure how to rate this, but it’s very original which I like, I just enjoyed this less than I hoped but can’t put a reason on it. Some great gems in here and I’ll probably revisit eventually.
They are clearly talented, you can hear a lot of later music in this but by itself, not my thing.
This album is an incredible time, what a great atmosphere and time capsule.
Approachable, emotional, and filled to the brim with incredible songs on their own.
What a fun album! Doesn’t feel like a ton of deep substance on first listen so 4 stars for me, would relisten.
This has great hits but something doesn’t click for me. It feels too soft, maybe it’s the vocal delivery that doesnt change tone? I’m not quite sure but it’s good music, just doesn’t do anything for me.
Enjoyable, wouldn’t revisit but had some great emotional songs.
Enjoyable but not a ton of sticking power for me, I’d revisit but nothing really makes me want to come back.
This band definitely influenced a ton of the bands I love. I’d buy this record and spin it, would revisit. 5/5
I think this is such a good next step from 70s punk, still so ahead of its time. I’m a big fan. I could do without the incel lyrics, those definitely take it down to a 4.5 but it’s a product of its time so I guess it’s excusable.
But I love the 15 minute timing on this, 90 second songs are fun and don’t overstay their welcome. Surprising amount of melody too for punk of this time.
I’ve got the world up my ass!
This ain’t it for me. It feels unfinished, muddy, and messy. Not in a fun way either. It’s a snooze fest with crappy mixing that gets all mixed up.
I think this has the beginning of something good, which is probably what draws people to it. There are a few little gems that are fun and as soon as they come they are gone, I’d much rather listen to a 30 min cut down fleshed out and finished version of this album.
So far, this album is much better than other Elvis Costello stuff I’ve listened to. It’s glam rock to the max. Great production, big band sound, very over the top and theatrical which is the Elvis Costello way but yet still simple song structure. More punk vibes on this one which I also love.
Considering his other work I’ve found to be a huge slog, this one is a breath of fresh air.
4/5
Production wise, this album sounds fantastic. This is like Black Keys level production and that was 30 something years later.
But, the songwriting doesn’t do anything for me? The songs don’t really go anywhere they just sound nice. Not much to say I just don’t connect with it tbh.
This album is so over the top and honestly it delivers. It’s theatrical, it’s unapologetically dramatic, and the lyrics are awesome.
Its definitely a style that doesn’t fit every day for me but man I would buy this and spin it while doing some chores or something.
