I had never heard of this band before. I don't find the vocal particularly unique or anything but the instrumentation here is interesting enough that I dig this overall.
First AC/DC album that I've listened to in full. It's kind of cheesy I guess, but eh, it's still pretty listenable and I can see why they're popular. Not high art by any means, but it's fun.
First Depeche Mode album I've listened to. I dig the dark, polished sound. Looking forward to checking out Violator.
I find the title track kind of grating for whatever reason, but there are some good songs here. I think Royal Tenenbaums is doing some heavy lifting for me here to make this a 3.
Just not a lot here that I enjoy. Kind of boring.
Some great beats, good wordplay. Very listenable, but the tracks all kind of all hits a similar note for me and start to blur together a bit.
I thought it started pretty strong and I enjoyed the self-aware lyrics in her recognition of being in a relationship that she just can't quit. But this all started to blur together, and frankly bored me by the midpoint.
It's alright, but I find it all pretty samey. Even the popular tracks don't really stand out that much to me.
First Bjork album I've listened to in full. Some great, atmospheric stuff here. Black Lake is a highlight.
Love the grooves, some really great wordplay here. Date Rape song seems a little bit ehhh.
I've always had trouble listening to a Talking Heads album in full for whatever reason, but this is consistently great. Some under the radar songs here. Honestly, my least favorite is probably Take Me To The River.
A couple decent tracks, but this is a slog to get through.
This starts off with a lot of energy. Some real funky songs, interesting lyrics, theatricality. Not sure that I will revisit it much, but glad to have heard it.
Not necessarily my thing (cue In Bruges), but I do enjoy when the instrumentation branches out beyond the piano. That said, this is undoubtedly impressive as a debut album from a 19 year old.
I really enjoyed the first track, but unfortunately the rest didn't really hit those same notes for me.
Some dated production at times, but a majority of these songs still hit.
Not terrible by any means, this just isn't really my thing. She's got a nice voice, but old timey country twang just doesn't do it for me.
Long album that got boring pretty quickly.
I haven't listened to the Stones aside from their biggest singles, but it's surprising to me to read that Paint It, Black came out around this same timeframe. None of the songs on this are all that interesting to me.
An influential classic. I haven't listened to this in many years and only really remembered Heroin, but as an album the whole thing is still pretty compelling.
First time listening to this, and I can see why it's a classic. I could do without Mista Mista though, kind of a dud at the end.
I suppose this band is an indie rock blindspot for me, but this is a good album! Reminds me a lot of Grandaddy.
I appreciate the lyricism and the influence here, but the slow rapping and old school beats are a little dull to my modern sensibilities.
I'm getting a little burnt out on getting so much early 90s hip-hop in succession, but as with a lot of the other classics from that error -- it's good, but a little too long and laid back to keep my full attention all the way through. Can I Kick It still holds up with that Lou Reed sample. So good.
Classic. Not really much else to add, it lives up to its status.
Ehh...during the first track I was thinking maybe I was too dismissive of this at the time as being some Radiohead wannabe, but then I hit "Supermassive Black Hole" and thought okay maybe I'd prefer if it was just aping Radiohead because this is shit. Map of the Problematique is nice though, partially because the lyrics are not just the same generic "resist" type platitudes that are just annoying to me now. This surface-level fight the power bullshit effects no change and does nothing for me in this day and age. Just more corporate nonsense packaged in a different way.
My only exposure has been Hounds of Love, and I don't know if this reaches those heights, but still very good nonetheless. Love and Anger is a standout.
I respect it, and I like that some of the songs sound Talking Heads-esque, but it's a bit of a slog to try to get through in one sitting.
This is very stupid, but I was not familiar with Supertramp. I thought they were funk or something, so I must have conflated the band name with Super Freak as a kid and it never got corrected. Anyway, this is actually kind of right up my alley, especially the title track.
Never listened to an REM album before, but this is pretty decent. End of the World is pretty played out but there is some solid stuff on here.
I've had trouble getting through this album on previous attempts because it kind of blurs together, but giving it the attention it deserves, it is in fact quite good.
A lot of early punk doesn't do much for me, so I had low expectations, but this has some fun tracks. Bored Teenagers is stuck in my head.
Not my thing. Not really interesting enough to elevate it beyond its boring tough guy lyrics and riffs.
A couple of listenable tracks, but too inconsistent for me to really enjoy on the whole.
A couple huge hits but even the lesser knowns on this are great.
Having no disco exposure, this made me realize that what I love about Random Access Memories is largely just Nile Rodgers, not some magic sound that Daft Punk created themselves. There are some bangers on here, Lost in Music being the highlight. We Are Family is still pretty played out though.
One of Mom's favorites. It's good, but the voice is definitely an acquired taste.
I've overlooked this band because their name is stupid, but this surprised me with some real energy.
Wow, this is the first time a Metallica album has clicked. I didn't know they had this proggy side to them. To Live is to Die is the highlight for me.
It's good, it's smooth, I get it. Just not really in my wheelhouse. I don't really listen to slow jams.
I usually have trouble sitting through a White Stripes album in its entirety, but this may be my favorite overall.
Short and sweet with some classic tracks
Not a huge jazz fan, but I like how this one gets a bit psychedelic.
I like the title track but the rest is a bit dull.
Early Beatles obviously isn’t their best stuff but still has charm and quality.
Kept my attention for a bit, but became a bit of a slog after a while. Will check out their earlier stuff though.
A bit dull, would rather hear originals.
Not terrible, definitely gives me some 90s nostalgia, but doesn’t really grab me that much overall.
Lays the groundwork for two absolute classic albums to come. Doesn't quite reach the peak of those two, but still worthy of a 5 for me.
This is a pretty fun listen, although track 3 is a little wtf. Big Iron and The Master's Call are bangers.
