Thriller
Michael JacksonLegendary Pedo. 5 stars. Pretty good album too.

A few bangers on here. A bunch of skips. Lauryn Hill is a double threat. The dudes I can do without.
This is some of the most pretentious drivel I’ve ever heard.
Three ATJs is pretty mega, couple stinkers tho
It’s crazy to me I had never heard this record. I was a Buffalo Springfield HEAD in my mid twenties, the Big Homie Dan never played it for me, in all my music seeking it just never came up. I listened to it 6 times on repeat yesterday. I love it. Some of the lyrics really hit (Johnny’s Garden could be Bardo) and the playing is all top tier. Stills is a legendary asshole but the guy has chops.
I think the details surrounding the creation of this record lend to it being overrated. Little Hands is a great song, the rest only really holds interest as an artifact. What a schizophrenic just released from an asylum given alone time in a studio sounds like.
Never been a big Bowie fan. I’d never heard this record. After four listens though, I think maybe it’s great. I could do without Across the Universe, the big singles are pretty played out, but mostly an otherwise surprisingly soulful record.
Not even my third favourite Wilco album. I guess this album was a departure for them, but I like Wilco more after they departed from this.
I don’t even know how to rate/review/interpret music like this. I generally dislike 80s production. This sucks in my opinion.
Couple undeniable songs on here. I like the ones that make feel like a teenage girl. Also if only tay tay met me back then, we could have been great.
Some nice guitar and string arrangements. This doesn’t really do anything for me though. I don’t love the vocals (bland, depressing), lyrics (vague, whimsical), or song structures (rambling, lacking resolution). I’m in a pretty good spot these days but I could see enjoying this more if I was depressed. That’s a no from me, dog.
As with Nick Drake’s Five Leaves Left last weekend (an album Beck seems to be channeling here), I really tried. Three full spins and yeah, it’s a no for me dogg. Kinda boring, pretentious, fuckin mopey. A few moments.
My Dad didn’t like Neil Young so somehow I made it to my mid-twenties without exploring beyond the ubiquitous radio hits. Upon discovering them, his records went into heavy rotation right through my thirties. Currently, I almost never put them on, and have been forming increasingly negative opinions of them. Looks like I’m seeing more of my old man in me. ATGR isn’t even my fifth favourite NY record. Cripple Creek Ferry is an ATJ though(sack tap Dan).
For the modal realist, there exists a possible world wherein Rising Above Bedlam isn’t shit, therefore the possible worlds theory is false.
This is kryptonite to my ears. The guitar tone, vocal inflection, super tight and clean production. That said, I might owe this guy for a bunch of artists I do like.
This record goes. I like.
First sought out this record in the mid-2000s when it was being mentioned as an influence on a bunch of new bands I was digging. Instant classic in my canon. Somehow, this record seems to get better every time I put it on. Read along with the lyrics this time. Some great writing here.
Where it’s at is pure nostalgia. 13 year old me watching Much Music in the basement. Nothing else really popped for me. Wasn’t interested enough to buy this then, not interested enough to play it again now.
What a cool album. Thematically prescient. Digitally psychedelic. Doesn’t sound dated at all. Johnny Greenwood is an under appreciated guitar God. I have to be in a “Radiohead mood” to enjoy Radiohead, but this album is undeniable. I’d give this 4.5 if I could but I’m rounding up.
This made me feel good as shit. Me rikey.
This doesn’t make me want to stick pins in my eyes or drill a step bit into my temple, but I couldn’t wait for it to be over so I could get on with the rest of my day.
I tried to listen with an ear for the humour, which I think is the point. I was mildly amused a couple times. I dunno, would love a great album today.
Drum sounds were kinda insane but no way.
Sabotage is a jam, but a jam I’ll probably never put on myself. Some other cool songs on here but also a bunch of crap. It is kind of interesting to see all the variety on this record. Too long though.
First time listening beyond the hits off this record. Really, really great and fun. Love the sound. Man, would have been cool as shit to be around that CBGBs punk scene. This record is going on at my next house party.
Boooooorrriiiiiinnngggg
Obviously a famous record, and even though I’ve put it on 3 or 4 times since my 20s to see what the fuss was about, I heard it for the first time this time through. Really moved by it. There’s elements that make me wince, but the good stuff is what stands out. Emotionally powerful and sonically interesting. Feel like there’s a lot more to explore here, and that this album is just going to grow on me from now on. This is a controversial rating inside my own head. I want to give this a 5 but can’t—yet. I suspect this might grow a star in the future.
Lotta talent for one family. Ron Isley is Al Green lite. Hot record, a few lulls, not super high replay value for me.
Couldn’t pretend to care about William Orbit (as a musician).
