1001 Albums Summary

Surprisingly wonderful, I liked it right from the start! Previously, I’d only heard the short people song and Toy Story songs. He’s jazzy, but also something else I can’t put my finger on. Definitely irreverent and I’m pretty sure she said the n word… definitely have mixed feelings about the lyrics but the musicality is very catchy. From what I read online, he writes satire and some of his songs are written from different character perspectives — what we call in reading an “unreliable narrator” which would explain the slurs about Jews and black people. It’s giving Tom Waits vibes.

Super vibes my, his whispery singing makes my brain itch a bit. The woman’s voice is beautiful. The music is beautiful, it’s just not really my thing and I probably wouldn’t reach for this album again.

Couldn’t finish it. Too noisy and it’s not for me. Made me feel irritated. I guess I’m old now.

Starts off strong. Catchy, but not deep. Didn’t finish. After a while the music becomes noisy. The lyrics do absolutely nothing for me, the music neither.

I don’t love it, I don’t hate it, it was very long and I didn’t finish it.

Amazing from start to finish, wonderful lyrics, one of the best albums of all time. Timeless, I could listen to it over and over at any point in my life and still enjoy it and feel different emotions.
