Popular Reviews

Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers

Bland. A couple of ok songs but nothing special.

Oct 01 2025

Wilco complete their transition from alt-country to art rock. Some good songs but overall it leaves me a bit cold.

The Fat Of The Land by The Prodigy
Oct 06 2025

Biggest hits but not the best Prodigy album; that is Music for the jilted generation. Not really an album band

Aqualung by Jethro Tull
Oct 07 2025

Stodgy dad rock

Seventh Tree by Goldfrapp
Oct 09 2025

Bland, aural wallpaper. Electronic shoegaze with sub cocteau twins vocals.

Locust Abortion Technician by Butthole Surfers
Oct 10 2025

Sweat Loaf and Human Cannonball are good, the rest of the album is a mix of sludge rock and art noise experiement.

Tommy by The Who
Oct 13 2025

Good. Does not sound like anybody else.

The White Album by Beatles
Oct 14 2025

Disappointing. I expected to love this record but a lot of it sounds like filler. Part of the problem is the ubiquity of the Beatles, i must have heard every song on here hundreds of times without trying, but part of it is that some of the songs are really not good.

Colour By Numbers by Culture Club
Oct 15 2025

Well machined blue-eyed soul/pop record. Boy Georges voice is excellent, but the material does not support it. Overall bland, except for Church of the Poison Mind 2?

Rio by Duran Duran
Oct 16 2025

No, just no. Culture Club yesterday and Duran Duran today. How is this in the top 1001 albums? Lightweight 80s pop. There are better New Romantic/synth albums out there.

Back At The Chicken Shack by Jimmy Smith
Oct 20 2025

Definitely jazz. A bit like listening to an Austin Powers film. I have no idea if this is good jazz but i quite enjoyed it.

Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Oct 21 2025

Bland. A couple of ok songs but nothing special.

Fred Neil by Fred Neil
Oct 23 2025

Some good song writing but his voice and the musical arrangements do not work for me.

Rage Against The Machine by Rage Against The Machine
Oct 24 2025

Commodified discontent for suburban punks. I had forgotten how tedious nu-metal was. Incohate rage for the man - 1 star

Meat Is Murder by The Smiths
Oct 27 2025

I like the Smiths, I do not like this album. Not sure why this is here ahead of The Smiths or The Queen Is Dead.

Bryter Layter by Nick Drake
Oct 28 2025

I can see why thus is loved by critics and people in the know, but it has too much whimsy for me.

After The Gold Rush by Neil Young
Oct 29 2025

I was looking forward to this album but it was a bit underwhelming. Couple ofbgood songs (Only Love... and Southern Man) but few other stand outs.

Stripped by Christina Aguilera
Oct 30 2025

Efficient machine made pop music.

Greetings From L.A. by Tim Buckley
Oct 31 2025

Self indulgent LA muso cosplaying as a sexy person. 1 star sex funk

Led Zeppelin III by Led Zeppelin
Nov 03 2025

Immigrant Song is the blueprint for the album. Killer guitar riffs, pretentious lyrics and no proper ending, it just tapers off. 2 stars ooh yeah, ooh yeah.

The Grand Tour by George Jones
Nov 05 2025

I do not know if this is a good album or not. Mainly it seems to be a chronicle of Georges troubled love life. It is almost a parody of country songs. 2 stars, he has been done wrong.

The Only Ones by The Only Ones
Nov 06 2025

Average album, but gets an extra star for Another Girl, Another Planet.

Young Americans by David Bowie
Nov 07 2025

A couple of stand our tracks, especially Fame, but the rest tends to the bland.

British Steel by Judas Priest
Nov 10 2025

This album is the template for British heavy metal. Yowling vocals, pretentious lyrics, chugging guitar riffs with occasional outbreaks of wanky solos. All taken very seriously.

The Stone Roses by The Stone Roses
Nov 11 2025

Awesome. 5 stars, adore me.

Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel
Nov 13 2025

Pleasant. The good tracks are memorable ( The Boxer, Bridge ..., Cecilia) but the rest sound like the soundtrack to a 1973 movie about an architects failing marriage. 2 stars, la la la

In Utero by Nirvana
Nov 14 2025

An over correction to the sound that made them famous. The problem is other bands made this type of music earlier and better.

Guero by Beck
Nov 17 2025

Becomes less interesting the longer it goes on. It sounds very much like a Beck album, not sure why this is included ahead of others.

Electric Warrior by T. Rex
Nov 18 2025

Some memorable songs which you probably already know (Jeepster, Get it on) but the rest is quite forgettable.

Stardust by Willie Nelson
Nov 20 2025

I know Willie Nelson more from his image than his music so i was looking forward to some Outlaw Country to see if his reputation held up. This album does not do anything for me.

The Rising by Bruce Springsteen
Jan 09 2026

Dull, formulaic and over long.

Aladdin Sane by David Bowie
Jan 12 2026

Weakest of the 'classic' Bowie albums so far. Jean Genie is still an absolute banger.

Dummy by Portishead
Jan 13 2026

Excellent album. Alluring and mysterious vocals set to glacial beats. 5 stars for the theremin.

Jan 14 2026

Bland, plods when it should soar. What is the point of making anthemic, grandiose music if you have nothing grand to say? It feels like they take the safe option everytime. Middle management music for middle managers

Suede by Suede
Jan 15 2026

This project has given me the chance to listen to genres outside my comfort zone. Country (Dolly Parton - good), prog rock(Jethro Tull - not good). Indie is a genre I am familar with and Suede are a poor example. Beloved by the NME and men with Hoxton fins, but tedious and overblown. You can get away being dramatic if you have the talent (see The Smiths), but a good guitarest on there own cannot carry the weight pretentions of this album

The Specials by The Specials
Jan 16 2026

Sometimes an album captures a place and a time perfectly, for better or worse. The Specials sums up the early 80s in Britain for me. The energy and excitement. The vuolence and casual misogyny. Interesting album, but not one i eill be returning to often.

Violent Femmes by Violent Femmes
Jan 19 2026

This album should not be as good as it is. It has a xylophone solo. A snotty blast of teen angst. At least i hope it is snot. Frenetic and percussive. Stripped down acoustic punk.

Jan 20 2026

Mid-tempo rockers. Always makes the safe decision. Production has filed off all the rough edges.

So by Peter Gabriel
Jan 21 2026

Good album, with some excellent tracks (Sledgehammer, Don't Give Up, Big Time, We Do What We Are Told). The album gives me a post-war feel (one truth, one voice, one dream). Second album in a row produced by Daniel Lanois. The previous was U2, which sounded over produced, like all the interesting rough edges & idiosynchonies had been removed. Here the production is much more in the service of the music. Has the most 80s possible bass sound.

Music in Exile by Songhoy Blues
Jan 22 2026

Excellent. I wentbinto this knowing nothong about the band or the album. The qlbum rocks along effortlessly.

Homework by Daft Punk
Jan 23 2026

An album to be danced to, not listened to.

Rock 'N Soul by Solomon Burke
Jan 27 2026

I want to likenthis album more than i do. Too much of it is bland

The Suburbs by Arcade Fire
Jan 28 2026

Over long, baggy and uneven

Ten by Pearl Jam
Jan 29 2026
Ragged Glory by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Jan 30 2026

Sometimes Neil Young is execellent, sometimes he is self indulgent. This album has both, more good than bad.

Africa Brasil by Jorge Ben Jor
Feb 06 2026

Fine, but not something i will revisit.
