Skylarking by XTC

At 14, this album changed the trajectory of my musical taste for a lifetime. For those who have never heard of XTC or Skylarking, oh what I would give to borrow your ears to allow me to hear it for the first time again. Tips: Headphones: Always Edition: Steven Wilson Remaster Track Listing: Original (-Dear God + Mermaid Smiled)

Slippery When Wet by Bon Jovi

Music for a demographic that exclusively uses the word "banger" to describe the music they like.

Chris by Christine and the Queens

I have a feeling this album is on this list for reasons that are beyond musical merit.

Club Classics Vol. One by Soul II Soul
Nov 06 2025

2 Stand out hits, one surprisingly good unheard song. Mostly 90s club beats and repetitive r&b vocals.

Bryter Layter by Nick Drake
Nov 07 2025

Very pleasant album. Easy album to get through with a few familiar tracks. It's not hard to see why this album was so influential.

Nov 08 2025

If this is the epitome of Elton John then count me out. Wow, the three songs I've heard a thousand times were still heads and shoulders above the rest. 1 hour 16 minutes? No thanks. "Say one thing nice"... The opening track was at least provoking.

Slippery When Wet by Bon Jovi
Nov 08 2025

Music for a demographic that exclusively uses the word "banger" to describe the music they like.

Ágætis Byrjun by Sigur Rós
Nov 09 2025

Grab some sopors and some cool ranch doritos, then hunker down for 71 minutes of bliss.

Urban Hymns by The Verve
Nov 10 2025

I'd be mad if someone gave me this album and said something hyperbolic like: "no matter what, you need to hear this album before you die". That said, Bittersweet Symphony is absolutely a single you should hear before you die

Disintegration by The Cure
Nov 11 2025

I can see why this album is on this list. So much inspiration to bands that followed. The cure have been in my orbit for about 35 years but I've never considered myself a fan. That said. This album was surprisingly good front to back

The Poet by Bobby Womack
Nov 12 2025

Not great, feels very dated and one note. I'm sure this music might be better received if I wasn't a suburban white kid from the 80s.

D by White Denim
Nov 13 2025

A band Id never heard of despite paying quite a bit of attention to new releases in 2011 in similar genres. It was serviceable as a (what a Gen x would call) alternative rock/psych rock album. However, after hearing this, there had better be a couple Grizzly Bear entries on this list.... A band that I believe does this style much better

Heroes by David Bowie
Nov 15 2025

Not my favorite Bowie but it's undoubtedly a good album. That said, 9 Bowie albums is egregious.

Phaedra by Tangerine Dream
Nov 20 2025

I put an aquarium YouTube video up for our cats while this album played figuring it was the perfect soundtrack. Somehow all it did was make the cats less interested in the fish.

Skylarking by XTC
Nov 21 2025

At 14, this album changed the trajectory of my musical taste for a lifetime. For those who have never heard of XTC or Skylarking, oh what I would give to borrow your ears to allow me to hear it for the first time again. Tips: Headphones: Always Edition: Steven Wilson Remaster Track Listing: Original (-Dear God + Mermaid Smiled)

Metallica by Metallica
Nov 23 2025

Sure, I suppose it belongs on this list for posterity.

Hot Buttered Soul by Isaac Hayes
Nov 25 2025

This album certainly belongs on this list.

Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins
Nov 26 2025

No doubt a classic and an album that was imitated for years after its release. For me, Gish is the choice here but I still love this album, Sure, give me 12 channels of guitar. 5 stars all day.

Scott 2 by Scott Walker
Dec 04 2025

Better than I remembered. I definitely prefer the "Neil Diamond" Scott Walker. Hopefully the wankery Scott Walker is not on this list

Bad Company by Bad Company
Dec 05 2025

It fine... I guess, However, the production on a few of these tracks is straight garbage.

Bad by Michael Jackson
Dec 09 2025

I remember feeling like I outgrew Michael Jackson waiting for this album to be released in the 80's. Turns out I was right. The singles are still good. The rest is forgettable.

Chris by Christine and the Queens
Dec 24 2025

I have a feeling this album is on this list for reasons that are beyond musical merit.

Transformer by Lou Reed
Dec 30 2025

Perfect example of an album you have to hear before you die. Regardless if you dislike VU or Lou Reed it's undeniable he had massive influence on bands you actually do like. 5/5

Dirty by Sonic Youth
Jan 26 2026

Not my preferred Sonic Youth album nor would I say this particular album deserves a spot on this list. If Jet Set Trash and No Star is also here I'll give it a pass. Dirty is a borderline 3 to 4 star album. It's surprising to me how unwelcome Kim Gordon's delivery is on this album all these years later. I remember it being more striking and palatable in the 90's.
