Some good dance beats, but repetitive lyrics and somewhat uninspiring vocals. 2/5
Bob’s just not my thing. Or at least, this album doesn’t represent the qualities I like about Bob Dylan.
I was curious to listen to this because I remember there being so much buzz about Fiona Apple when the album was announced. This isn’t my style. Like, at all. Maybe I need to check out her earlier work, but her lyrics and the fact that it sounds more like she’s talking than singing really annoy me.
Solid rock album, I really enjoyed it. “All Mixed Up” is the only song I didn’t enjoy. 4/5
I can hear his style in more contemporary artists, I assume that Nick has been an influential artist to Bedouine and others. Would love to dig into more of this work!
Didn’t realize how many of The Who’s hits came from this album. Overall a good album! Daltrey does love to yell though lol. The album being bookended by Baba and Won’t Get Fooled is such a great composition.
Man- Father and Son is just gorgeous. Such emotion. This is the first album I’ve listened to here that I’ve gone back to relisten to some of the tracks that were new to me. 4/5.
I’ve been wanting to get into Mingus but never really connected too hard with Ah-Um. This album has sold me on Mingus. Didn’t know much of his history, but the influence of Ellington is definitely in there. I can understand why this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I really enjoyed it! 4/5
Overall it’s a good album that’s very much in the Bowie glam rock style- I didn’t realize they were both going on at the same time. Listening to the Slider got me to check out Electric Warrior, and I think that’s the better album of the two.
Looks like this album specifically isn’t on Spotify- But based on what Captain Beefheart there is on Spotify, I can only imagine this album is disgusting.
Loved hearing all of the samples. Fun lyrically too. Used to listen to midnight marauders a fair bit, should give Tribe more of a listen.
Rock Lobster is always a bop.
With the nostalgia I would be putting this down as a 4.5, realistically it’s probably more in the 3.5 range. There are some forgettable songs, but the majority of them are bangers and have stood the test of time
Could probably use a few more listens- Kinda sounds like an uninspired Oasis
If I heard it in a club I would dance for sure, but purely listening it wasn’t great. I do appreciate that the albums aren’t all just rock though, getting some house, jazz, etc.
It’s not an album I would consider just playing through. It kind of sounded like turning on a PS2 game to its main menu and then walking away
I like that Jack White covers some old school blues tunes. Not all of the songs are strong, but I think it’s a really good album overall
