1001 Albums Summary

Excellent album with some amazing all-time grunge songs like Serve the Servants and Heart-Shaped Box. Some songs do feel too rough or screamy for me, the most egregious example being Scentless Apprentice which has an almost unlistenable chorus.

Some good bops on this record but man he really does not sell love songs at all. Maybe it’s because of my pre-existing bias about, yknow, but it just feels like a slog. The rest is pretty good though

Very charming folk record with no duds.

A quite lengthy album with nothing that stands out about it. Songs sound quite similar to each other and don’t go anywhere interesting.

The songs are all…..fine. The Foo Fighters were a competent band right from their debut. But the album isn’t all that engaging or interesting, though it isn’t offensive. The vocals didn’t have as much weight behind them as you would expect which contrasts with the rest of the albums sound. I do respect the albums story, with all of the instruments being played by Grohl as a solo project made in the wake of Cobain's death.

I mean….I get it. It’s abrasive and noisy and all and I think the back half of the album is at the very least listenable. But those first five or so songs are genuinely unlistenable.

It’s a lot of noodling and jamming. And yknow what? I like noodling and jamming. But it can only make an album so good in my eyes. 6/10

God what a fantastic album. Maybe it’s because I’m tired of the more generic rock featured on this list, but this felt like such a breath of fresh air.

It sure sounds like an album from the fifties alright. Still decent I guess.
