Title track is amazing, and the first three songs rip. The three mega hits are great in the context of the album.
First half is excellent, second half gets a little dull but still sweet.
Carried by a few excellent tracks, but nothing particularly exciting or interesting about this one. Thunder Road, Backstreets and Born to Run are the standouts.
Loses steam with Smokin and Hitch a Ride, but these songs all rule.
Just when I was getting bored, Caught, Can I Get a Witness? came and reeled me back in for the rest of the album.
Instant party when this album comes on. Every track is groovy, fun, a little goofy, and sonically adventurous. I loved it start to finish.
Sets a cool vibe, and I enjoyed it quite a bit.
I can't believe I never listened to this. The first half is perfect, slows down in the second but still very interesting and cool.
Boring at first, but there ends up being some pretty interesting stuff here. One of those albums that comes to an " oh THIS song" moment.
Disappointing followup to Norman Fucking Rockwell, which is her best work by a lot. This album meandered and bored me. I don't particularly like her breathy way of singing, it works sometimes but really overdone here. Let Me Love You Like a Woman is really good, and Dance Till We Die is great. For Free is also pretty good.
Pretty straightforward punk rock. I like the music, but the growling vocals don't do it for me. It sounds like if Dave Mustaine sang for a punk band, and not in a great way. All the songs are fine, but I caught myself feeling bored despite the chaotic music. I usually love punk, especially from this era, but this one didn't do it for me. Maybe it would improve if I heard it at a different time.
Really great album! Gives really strong Cure vibes, and Bjork's vocals are absolutely powerful and ethereal. As someone who only knows a bit of her work, I'm excited to get more into it.
Bookends is an appropriate title, because the start and finish to this album are phenomenal. The momentum built in the first two tracks hits a brick wall at Overs and doesn't really hit a good groove until Fakin' It. The middles songs are pretty, but not particularly interesting compared to the run at the end. 9/10
Really good bridge between Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. Awesome bluesy guitar riffs and high energy vocal performances. My least favorite track is Highway Star, mostly because I hate songs about cars. Smoke on the Water is iconic, but not the best on the album. Lazy is probably my favorite here. 8/10
So cheesy at times, but I find it endearing. This album makes me nostalgic for the time in my life when I listened to lots of Stone Roses. 8/10
Fantastic album! In my mind it was an angry album, but that's just because of You Oughta Know. This has really high highs, and its all so undeniably catchy. 9/10
I see a huge influence on Oasis in this album, besides the usual comparison with cigs and alcohol. Great songs and lots of energy, light 7/10.
Feels somewhat ahead of its time on the first track, reminds me of the chillwave indie that dominated after Mac Demarco broke. Overall very cool and chilled out psychedelic pop album. 8/10
This is one of those albums loaded with hits that you didn't realize were all on one album. Scenes from an Italian Restaurant was a nice surprise, I had only ever heard the bottle of red, bottle of white opening. Tracks 3 and 9 are just a little too cheasy for me, but still good. Strong 9/10
I'm sure everything I could say about this has been said. Captures a really cool transition for Dylan. The Desolation Row is one of the best out there, and the electric half shows some Grateful Dead style jamming.
I love Air, and there is a lot here to love. The problem with this being a soundtrack is that it is made to accompany the subject, not necessarily to be the subject. Maybe is I had seen the movie I would appreciate this more, but it feels like every time there is an interesting or compelling moment, it's fleeting. A lot to really love here, but also lots of filler. Maybe you could say that about other Air albums, but I hope Moon Safari will be on this list. 6/10
Stone cold classic. I've loved this album for a long time, and I'm so happy to revisit it 10 years after I discovered it. I just wish Moonchild's length was cut somewhat. Very Strong 9/10
I could only listen to 6 songs available to me, but they were excellent. I see a straight line between this and Modern Life is Rubbish by blur.
Very charming, but ultimately not my thing. I do love the Song Amsterdam, but I prefer the Scott Walker version. 3/10
As a huge LCD fan, this album hits at a primal level for me. Every song is great, no notes. Simply perfect, and the best album I've heard so far on this list. 10/10
Super fun and clunky in a good way! Always loved the hits but this is the first full album I've heard of theirs. Glad to dive deeper on them! 8/10
When it's good it's great, but it does meander in parts. Very strong 7/10
An album that meant a hell of a lot to me in high school. It brought some interesting memories, and it was interesting to see which songs resonate with me 17 years later. 8/10
The vibe is similar to early Beck, but it's not as good as early Beck. Pretty good 6/10
Very surprising to me, I always hated Aerosmith. I was going to skip this one, but two days later I saw it in Kurt Cobain's top 50 and got curious. You can really hear the influence on grunge bands, especially Mudhoney. Very solid 8/10
Love Dolly the woman, now I love Dolly the musician. Incredibly sweet and aggressively optimistic. 9/10
