Hail To the Thief by Radiohead

Not my idea of a good time. There are some Radiohead songs that I enjoy, but I didn't like the over-experimental mess this was. I found myself unable to find a "hook" in any of this.

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Jan 06 2026

What a wild ride....and not in a good way. This sounded like something a 12 year old would create in their basement.

Urban Hymns by The Verve
Jan 07 2026

Overall, a pretty good listen. There were a few songs that sounded like they were going towards Oasis. Some that sounded a little newer.

Queen II by Queen
Jan 08 2026

You can see where it's headed. There was a bit of what Queen became in a few of these tracks, but for the most part it was a mess. I wasn't exactly sure what it was trying to be.

Hail To the Thief by Radiohead
Jan 12 2026

Not my idea of a good time. There are some Radiohead songs that I enjoy, but I didn't like the over-experimental mess this was. I found myself unable to find a "hook" in any of this.

Madman Across The Water by Elton John
Jan 13 2026

This was really good. It starts off with one of the greatest songs from the 70's in Tiny Dancer and just kept going from there. I really enjoyed it.

More Specials by The Specials
Jan 14 2026

This was truly awful to listen to. I had no idea how this got made and who thought anyone else should listen to it. It's like they took the worst part of some different genres like SKA, reggae and pop and blended it together with terrible voices. I wish I could get that time back. I suffered thru it for the cause but boy I wish I didn't need to.

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by The Smashing Pumpkins
Jan 15 2026

I loved this album when it first came out and I was much younger. Listening to it now was much different. There were some really great tracks and then multiple songs in a row that just felt like filler. There was no need to make this a double album since a lot of the songs could have been left in Billy's head instead of making it to the studio.

Take Me Apart by Kelela
Jan 16 2026

Generic early 00's R&B. There were no standout songs. Her voice was nice, but nothing that seemed different from a lot of what was being pumped out at that time.

Back To Black by Amy Winehouse
Jan 19 2026

I remember the time period when this came out. I wasn't really a fan then because it sounded so much like artists that did before and better. I get it. I think she has a cool voice, and there are a few tracks that are pretty good, but I still think there were others a long, long time ago that did it significantly better.

Blackstar by David Bowie
Jan 20 2026

I REALLY liked the music on this. Unfortunately, Bowie's voice dragged it down. He has some great albums where his voice complements what is happening behind it. I know he was older when this was released, but it doesn't change the fact that he stretched what he could do too far. Many artists release albums at the end of their career/life and they lean into it.

Rubber Soul by Beatles
Jan 22 2026

I don't hate the beatles, but they definitely aren't at the top of my list of bands either. This was ok, but I wouldn't put on again.

Signing Off by UB40
Jan 23 2026

This was terrible. At first I thought maybe it just wasn't my genre of music, and maybe I just needed to be more open-minded. Nope. It sucked.

Heaven Or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins
Jan 27 2026

This was really good. I had friends that were fans of theirs back in the day, but I never really listened to them. It was good from beginning to end and had a really cool vibe. I'll definitely listen again and look at more of their stuff. It sucks that I'm 15 albums into the "challenge" and this is the first one I liked and rated above 2 stars.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly
Jan 28 2026

It wasn't terrible, but definitely not my style of music choice. I listened and didn't have a strong opinion on it. Obviously, I knew the main song from the album. Everything else was stuck between the 60's psychedelic and 70's rock.

Life's Too Good by The Sugarcubes
Jan 29 2026

This was awful. I had to force myself to get thru it. Just nothing I liked.

The Slider by T. Rex
Jan 30 2026

I've seen the list of the 1001 albums, and I know there are some great ones coming, but I am struggling thru these at the moment. This was another awful choice, and I don't hate music from this era. It was just bad.

Back In Black by AC/DC
Feb 02 2026

Absolutely incredible album from beginning to end. AC/DC isn't even really music I listen to much, but this is the perfect example of something that should be on a list like this.

Doggystyle by Snoop Dogg
Feb 03 2026

I remember this album being massive when it came out. The flows and beats are still there, and just as incredible, but the lyrics and the corny skits are so bad. I found myself bopping along and then all of the sudden I would be overwhelmed with cringe and embarrassment.

Electric Warrior by T. Rex
Feb 04 2026

I am three weeks into this and two albums from T. Rex have already come up. I have the same opinion on this one as the other one....it sucks. I have nothing else to say about it.

Feb 05 2026

Really good Queen album. Not great. Not bad. Right down the middle. I do love stone cold crazy.

The Poet by Bobby Womack
Feb 06 2026

Decent. There were some really cool hooks in some of the songs. The bass player was fantastic. Overall, not great, but was not a waste of time to listen to either.

Siembra by Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
Feb 10 2026

Not my type of music, but I thought it was good.

Supa Dupa Fly by Missy Elliott
Feb 11 2026

Mediocre rap from that era. There were a few hits, a bunch of filler, and some really cringy skits. For the most part, this is just Timbaland.

The Beach Boys Today! by The Beach Boys
Feb 12 2026

This was painful to listen to. I gave it one more star than I probably should have.

Mama's Gun by Erykah Badu
Feb 13 2026

She has some really great vocals but the whole thing was kinda boring.

Synchronicity by The Police
Feb 20 2026

The hits were the hits and the rest was terrible. I found myself really disliking Sting's voice. The only saving grace was Stewart Copeland. This was stuff I grew up with and I guess I was just too young when this came out to know what good music is?

From Elvis In Memphis by Elvis Presley
Feb 24 2026

This sucked so much. It was painful to listen to and I hated it.

War by U2
Feb 25 2026

This was so up and down. Good song....crap.....decent song.....rinse, repeat. I also hate Bono's voice for some reason.

Killing Joke by Killing Joke
Feb 26 2026

This was like KMFDM but without any talent. I hated it. I really, really need to catch a good album soon, because this list is just terrible so far.

The Clash by The Clash
Mar 02 2026

I get the cultural significance of the band, but I just don't think it's good. I enjoy a lot of bands that were influenced by The Clash, I just never got into them.

Dusty In Memphis by Dusty Springfield
Mar 03 2026

I am begging for anything to pop up from the past 20 years. Her voice is good. Overall, it's just boring.

Mar 04 2026

I loved this album when it came out. The first time I heard Stan was incredible. Then it aged. Really, really aged. I found myself in a constant state of bobbing my head and cringing at the lyrics.

Machine Gun Etiquette by The Damned
Mar 05 2026

Went in not expecting much. I had friends that were really into that era of punk and I just never got it. This was different. I liked it a lot.

Tanto Tempo by Bebel Gilberto
Mar 06 2026

It wasn't necessarily bad; it was just boring. There are other reviews that captured it better.....but it was very much like listening to something in the background of a hotel bar. She can sing.

You Want It Darker by Leonard Cohen
Mar 09 2026

This might have been the worst album I have listened to since starting this. J Just bad. I don't understand why this crap is considered something everyone needs to listen to?

The Wall by Pink Floyd
Mar 10 2026

There was a lot of good music here. There was also an insane amount of filler. I get that it was a concept album, but I think you need to be on something to enjoy that part of it. Solid 3

Mar 11 2026

Why would this album be on a list of music I need to listen to? It was useless elevator music!

Imagine by John Lennon
Mar 12 2026

This was terrible. Everyone has heard the title song, and it gets sullied by the fact that he was a terrible human. The rest of it was complete crap.

In Our Heads by Hot Chip
Mar 13 2026

This was pretty good. I'd never heard of them before this album popped up in the list. I found myself enjoying most of it. Kinda what I was hoping a lot of the albums on this list were gonna be...new music to me that I liked.....unfortunately it's rare that something like that happens!

She's So Unusual by Cyndi Lauper
Mar 16 2026

This was a great album that really showcased 80's pop music. I've heard some of the songs hundreds of times. This was my childhood and boy does it bring back some memories. It lost a star for me mainly because I found here voice slightly annoying on a couple of the songs.

Neon Bible by Arcade Fire
Mar 17 2026

There were some good tracks and a few that were not as good. Solid, middle of the road, 3 stars

The Renaissance by Q-Tip
Mar 18 2026

I guess it was ok? I like rap, but this seemed so boring. I gave it two stars only because it at least had a few songs that I found the music to be enjoyable.

Morrison Hotel by The Doors
Mar 19 2026

I debated whether I should give this 1 or 2 stars and decided on 1 because while I get some of the musicianship might be good, I never want to listen to it again.

Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen
Mar 20 2026

You know when a three-year-old starts telling you a story and it takes a really long time and at the end you aren't quite sure what they just told you? That's Nebraska. This was so painful to listen to, and I like a lot of Springsteen's stuff.

At San Quentin by Johnny Cash
Mar 23 2026

This sounded very close to a SNL skit. Why can't he tune a guitar? Why does every song sound the same? I just don't get it. I do not want to listen to this again.

Can't Buy A Thrill by Steely Dan
Mar 24 2026

Sort of up and down. Started off really, really good....about 4 stars Dropped off for a couple of songs....about 2 stars Ended right in the middle. Basic math = 3 stars

Mar 25 2026

I am having a hard time coming up with adjectives to describe these crap albums that keep popping up on this list. At some point, I'll go back and see what my average scores have been, but I'm guessing it's low. I listen to a lot of music across many genres, and I feel like I am not getting the best of any of those. This exercise is becoming tedious and the opposite of what I was hoping for. Give me some cool music that I have not heard and that I should before I die!

90 by 808 State
Mar 26 2026

Slowly, but surely, I am getting thru this list. Album after album I am regretting it. This was bad....real bad. Why did I need to listen to this?

Mar 27 2026

Another one that was tough to get thru. Please make it stop. I just want to listen to good music!

Exile On Main Street by The Rolling Stones
Mar 30 2026

I didn't hate it, so I gave it 2 stars. Although, I would rather not listen to it again. It sounded like one long song. There was discernable high point.

Aladdin Sane by David Bowie
Mar 31 2026

I didn't like it, but I get why people would.

Throwing Muses by Throwing Muses
Apr 01 2026

I couldn't even figure out what was the right album to listen to. If it's that obscure, it isn't going to be worth it. I listened to a few songs from them and they sounded unoriginal.

Rust Never Sleeps by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Apr 02 2026

I hated this so much. He can't sing and the songs all sounded the same. I cannot fathom how people are giving this 5 stars!

No Other by Gene Clark
Apr 03 2026

I had no expectations going into this because I had no idea who he was. I was pleasantly surprised. I don't normally like this music, specifically from this era, but I found myself bopping along to it. Just the day before I had a Neil Young album from around the same time and absolutely hated it. Having a good voice goes a LONG way.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Apr 06 2026

I loved this album when it came out and it still holds up today. Yes, the lyrics are dumb, and yes, he can't sing, but I sure do find myself smiling and grooving to this.

Green by R.E.M.
Apr 07 2026

I don't really like REM, but I get that they are good at what they do. I just find it boring.

Apr 08 2026

I forgot how good Mr. Wendal was. The rest of it seemed sort of monotonous. I felt like I was listening to the same track over and over and there were parts in each song that just repeated over and over.

Bluesbreakers by John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers
Apr 09 2026

Fuck Eric Clapton

Apr 22 2026

Wasn't bad, just not really my thing. It started off pretty good, then got repetitive real quick.

Apr 23 2026

I don't know what that was?! It was either terrible country or someone trying to be country that never heard country music before.

D by White Denim
Apr 24 2026

I couldn't figure out if I liked this or not. I really enjoy seeing bands pop up that I haven't heard of before, because I hope it's something new. This felt didn't feel new at all. It sounded like so many other bands. It wasn't bad, it just didn't grab me in any way.
