1001 Albums Summary

At first I thought “man I forgot how great this album is!” And then I thought “man, I forgot how hard this album falls off after Polly.” This is a very good album, but the second half just doesn’t have the oomph to get it over to great. It’s no Ten by Pearl Jam.

Aggressively fine

Ok so I know Kate had her big resurgence with Stranger Things, but I first heard her thanks to a unique—and excellent—cover she did of Elton’s “Rocket Man”. This is exactly the sound I want—like she’s writing an album specifically for the weird outsider teenage girl in a John Hughes movie.

Classic.

Man… I just can’t get into Bob Dylan. Great instrumentals, some good lyrics… bUt the WAy he siNgs cOmplETELy throwS Me ofF.

No thanks. I already don’t like Rush. This is Rush but worse.

This aged like milk. The lyrics are cringe and the beats are repetitive and uninspired. No wonder his lyrics had to be shocking—without them, this is boring.

Excellent. Inventive. Fun. Reminds me why I love rock and roll.

Reminds me of a goofier pre-DSOTM Pink Floyd. Silly. Nice orchestrations.

Great. It’s campy and theatrical, yes. But it’s beautifully written and feels just massive. The ballads are tender and touching, and Meat’s vocals are outstanding. Top to bottom, this album absolutely rips.

I’m in the minority of people that think AM sounds like slightly better generic alt rock. This was slightly better than good.

This is an absolute classic. Highlight for me is Anything Goes. Fun fact, this was one if the two first albums I bought on vinyl (the second being 52nd Street). This is just a lovely, lovable album.

It’s a stunning, perfect work of art. This is beyond an album, it’s like looking at Bernini’s “David”. The story, the orchestrations, the BAND. I could make a strong case that this is the single greatest album of all time. The Wall on Broadway when?

Eh. Overhyped. Like I get why this was a hit, but it’s not Bowie at his best nor does it really feel like a rock opera—or all that spacey.

This was a slog of beeps and boops. There were some pleasant moments, but I just couldn’t get into it. I like mellow electronica… or maybe I don’t.

Oh yea I like this. Get me a Ford Pickup, the plains are calling.

Maybe I just wasn’t on enough drugs on a Monday afternoon to fully appreciate this album… but I found the majority of it to be really, really annoying.

Feels like Costco-brand U2, which I don’t necessarily mean as a bad thing!

A fair amount of this was straight-up goofy, a precursor to some of Blink’s humor. I was pretty down on this album until Take 5, D. That “side” of the album was right up my alley. A neat punk-ish album. Probably best enjoyed when played live in a gross basement bar.

Alright so I’ll admit at the get-go that I don’t like Rush. This is a perfectly fine album, and I know they’re a pioneer of prog, but I think there are a lot of contemporaries that do a lot of what Rush tries to do better. I’ll take Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, and Coheed & Cambria every time over this.

Great. My favorite this about this album is that it just *feels* like New York in the 90s. The jazz motifs throughout are masterful.

Separating personal feelings from the music… it’s a great album. Just seriously intense vocals.
