Second wave ska? Interesting artifact of another time. Reminds me of sublime. Halfway through track 2, it breaks into dirtier guitars in a surprising way that won me over to this being slightly more than a novelty project. Warm analog tones and some decent hooks. It’s clear there’s at least one instrumentalist in the group who has chops. While this particular genre fusion screams 90s, the production is good. My uber driver played me some of her ai generated songs, and this certainly felt more human than those. They also sample freebird.

Really eclectic and nice. Elliott smith meets mariachi. Occasionally jazz. Also true to form love cover hit nicely in the pacing.

Double albums are hard for me. Probably some good songs here, but a lot of it I found to be boringly competent mid tempo rock. Perhaps this is what wowie Zowie would sound like minus the weed. Could probably be a great single record, but I didn’t finish the back half.

Impressive record. Some for sure classics. Not sure how much I enjoy some of the other tracks or not. Probably best enjoyed on vinyl through a hi fi.

Viva Hate by Morrissey

Prince of emo all grown up.

Really sucks that he’s a nazi now. Growing up in a 98% white rural community I would listen to this while mowing my lawn. Aside from elevating hip hop classic music, it also introduced me to racial politics I was fully unaware of. 2010 Kanye, may have been an asshole, but he at least had a sense of humor and if you bother to listen to the whole record comes off as maybe a flawed narrator, but surprisingly self aware. Everyone from jay z to bon iver to Elton John is featured.

Nowhere by Ride

Comfort food. Maybe somewhere between the smiths and slowdive

Sincere by Mj Cole

Probably a 3.5. Reminds me a bit of gorillaz. Cool production. Got a little samey 2/3rds of the way through. But really enjoyed overall.

Probably a 4 or so without the language barrier. Grooves, sounds great. Cool backstory. Just got a little samey for me 2/3rds of the way through. Love the last track.

Not sure how I feel about there’s a world. And I prefer the live at Massey hall version of old man. So maybe should be a 4, but think it’s still a 5 because it has a handful of my all time favorites songs on it. See the lonely boy out on the weekend….

The Trinity Session by Cowboy Junkies

Very beautiful record. Twin peaks minus synths. I love the recording quality. The human performances. Her voice is great. I’m sure Lana del Rey loves this. Surprised I’ve never heard before.
