1001 Albums Summary

In an otherwise trying-to-be-tough album, 'Think Of You' is strangely endearing and candid. Not a massive fan, but they did come out with some of the most iconic riffs.

Despite the lyrics not being the focus of this album, they don't retract from it either by being repetitive generalisations. Very nostalgic album for me!

A bit repetitive, but you can tell they are developing the sounds for which they would come to be known. The songs that have clearly done the best of this album are the ones that have Josh Homme's signature haunting wailing singing.

Surprised at how much I liked it, clearly a classic album for a reason. I think I would probably enjoy it more if I looked into the lyrics or if I was a generally more angry person

Had no idea that 'Gangsta's Paradise' was based off a song in this album ('Pastime Paradise'). Second disc was better than the first.

I can see how this is an iconic album and it is definitely easy on the ears, I just prefer music with more lyrics.

Truthfully, I can't say I get it. I can see that the repetition in the lyrics is an attempt for the voices to be used more as part of the instrumentation, but I'm so lyric-focused that I find it quite difficult to actively pay attention to the album and still enjoy it.

I liked the music generally, quite experimental, but that's to be expected from a live-recorded album. I ended up zoning out at points, but it does strike me as a great performance to have watched live. You know you're in for some wacky music when a song exceeds the 10 minute mark.

This felt so consistently good and nostalgic, whilst still managing to be surprising. Surprised at how much I could like an all-instrumental album.

There's plenty of reasons I like this, but my favourite one is because I can imagine my granny singing 'doo doo doo' to the rhythm of the bass in my head. Great combination of the bass pacing out the music while the trumpets bring the energy.

A lot of the songs sounds very similar, but it's a good formula so why change it? Moondance was by far the standout song.

On the right day, I could really get behind this medieval folk type of music. Today was just not the day, but happy to give it another try later. Can definitely see this influencing Cosmos Sheldrake, which I will always appreciate. Sally Go Round the Roses felt like the standout track

Love me a bit of storytelling like in 'Cowboy Movie'. Love the lyrics and I can see people really getting into this whilst tripping. It wasn't exactly a revelation, but I did enjoy it.

I enjoyed this, but I can't say it's the best that I've heard of the genre or the best that I've heard from Ray Charles himself

Not really a fan of the his voice, but I'm a fan of the lyrics, so I guess it balances out. 'Southern Man' was definitely a stand out song.

Love me a bit of ZZ Top, feels like pure rock without ever trying too hard, they just seem like they were having a good time making music.

Is this enjoyable in the background? Yes. Do I think it deserves to be in the best albums in history? Definitely not

I SWEAR I was ready to like them, but they are the equivalent of a banana costume, funny as a novelty but it would never make it to the regular outfit rotation. That being said, given how much I surprisingly enjoyed the song 'The O-Men', I was ready to give them 2 stars, but nah

Some very strong songs, some not so much

I liked quite a lot of the songs, it's giving Leonard Cohen had a lovechild with Hozier's Greek mythology obsession. However, I don't think I'll soon return to this album, so not quite 5 stars.

Used to be obsessed with LZ and I do still really like them, but I don't think this album is exactly their best

My dad always says that this album is made up of all the songs that didn't make it into Rumours. I tend to agree with him on this one, not as good as Rumours, but still exceptional music.

I bet it's good at a rave, but on a Wednesday morning trying to concentrate on work, I could not wait for this to be over.

Generally, I prefer music with a stronger beat. But you don't need a bit when you're spiralling, and that's what this album is giving. Having typed that, 'Idioteque' started playing and I loved it, but I'm also glad not all their songs are like this.

No-skip album. I feel like this is exactly what most white blues-rock bands are trying to sound like, but rarely do. My little brother's favourite album at age 5

I think they were finding their feet with this one. There's nothing quite like them and Blue Orchid is one of my favourite songs of theirs, but I think they have done better

The music itself was a bit cheesy for me, but to be expected from 80s music. Nevertheless, the wholesome lyrics (as far as I could tell) won me over slightly. For a band of its time, it is refreshing to pair this music with lyrics about women that are not actually misogynist. The opening track 'Women' is perhaps not to today's standards,

This album seems to be consistently good, but it doesn't exactly make it special. It feels like it needs some nostalgia attached to it to give it that extra umph

I knew Holiday in Cambodia, but this album was an absolute discovery for me. I'm surprised at how much I enjoyed their version of 'Viva Las Vegas'??? I do wish I didn't have to read the lyrics to understand what their songs are about, but I guess enunciation isn't exactly 'punk'.

I wanted to be Janis Joplin when I grew up and this album reminds me why. Ball and Chain is by far my favourite in this album

Overall wholesome and very enjoyable. Ham N' Eggs made me giggle and will probably make my regular music rotation. However the first track was so mid, I can't give it more than 4.

Will bookmark this one for the next time I'm sitting in the dark and need some lyrics to focus on.

Cool band, probably need to listen to this again

Like many of the albums on this list, I enjoyed it and might listen to it again, but question just how special this is to be on this list

Funky, weird, bopping. This is exactly the kind of album I was hoping to discover from this list.

A bit of editing couldn't have hurt, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and blame this on the fact that this album was remastered in 2014.

Didn't think I was particularly into this kind of music, but this is a no-skip album and it really shows why it marked a generation. The silly sound effects and the naivety of a lot of the lyrics defined the 80s. I found the beatboxing in 'Hit it Run' particularly entertaining.

Apart from the songs that I already knew, 'The Windmills Of Your Mind' and 'In The Land Of Make Believe' were the standout discoveries for me.

This sounds like a soundtrack for a very pleasant life

Listening to this on the hottest day in recorded history, so the odds where stacked against this album. HOWEVER Streetlife will never not remind me of Bob's Burgers and that's always a happy thought

Love The Cure, but this just doesn't have the weirdness that I love them for
