Neil Young is not a artist I've ever heard of before but I can tell I'll like him just from the first track "Tell me why" I do like how he's longing but still very mean about it not idealistic love or anything but love nonetheless, surprisingly crisp audio quality for 1970, cords sound similar to a Tyler childers song I've heard before, hopefully I like the rest of his work this much, this is a man begging...he doesn't know what for but he's begging I really enjoy it,folky guitar in nearly all the songs I love it, the voice is quite different from what I'm used to but it's growing on me by each listen, it feels like there's a disconnect when it jumps to heavier instrumentals but overall solid.
you would think it'd feel crowded y'know with all the MCs they allow to contribute on a given song but everyone gets a track to shine on wholly as themselves each with complementary yet distinct wordplay and I appreciate this album, I hadn't heard it before I mean everyone has heard C.R.E.A.M but I never delved into any of their stuff more than that, The piano sprinkled throughout is quite memorable given how off it sounds in my mind not sure if it is but if it is I like it adds a lot of personality to the track. method man might be my favorite song in the album."I got myself a 40 I got myself a shorty" not the craziest lyric but the way it's said makes it work real good, love this project.
Makes me feel like I'm in too deep on a case my wife advised me not to take but in all seriousness the voice is very sultry even tho the lyrical content is not being suggestive or anything of the sort, walk on by is pretty good I don't usually listen to this genre, The electric guitar is beautiful like the way it's being played is really engaging and keeps me focused, very good complete album I wonder why I've never heard of this person before Issac Hayes is quite and enjoyable artist with a concise project on display here, I'll revisit this a lot but it's not really my vibe so I won't delve into the style and deeper but good nonetheless, one woman is my favorite
I'm not used to this voice with strings that sound so alive, it works well tho but it's a new one for me cause I can fully hear the introspective lyrics but the instrumentation is creating some dissonance but that might very well be just me, I do wonder how this was received when it was released, place to be is my favorite track in the entire album. it's a nice listen this feels like something that might have inspired the sassy the sasquatch show on YouTube honestly, I like it but it's a little to different to my ears and too short to hold me for as long as I need, I like the giant peach on the cover it reminds me of a book I frequently read at school lunches when I was younger oh also things behind the sun is the also really good but short like all the others in the album.
thought black and tan fantasy might be connected to the irish black and tans song maybe inspired by it or it could be a view on the marginalized communities in America at the time irregardless I like the album as much as I can but I do truly dislike live albums, very few bands can do the recorded songs justice luckily there are no lyrics here for the most of it anyway it's just pure instruments so it works and it was long enough to just digest it in the background while I was busy, I like it don't love it tho overall still fantastic work just not my taste.
In the titular song I appreciate the approach to criticize the "American dream" especially from within by a citizen who was able to all the good and bad cause it's not solely pessimistic but rather it acts as a grounding force for the country at the time through the lense of David Bowie the album is clearly influenced by the soul genre very clearly and it is used tastefully but I don't fully know if it should be spread into nearly all the songs as much as it is, there is so much fun being had. 0 skips in the album, not everything is perfect but nothing is below a 6 and that is enough.
Drastic change from the intro into what the album became, definitely music that can be played in the background of most activities but I'm not connecting to anything enough for a impression to be made, suffers from being to safe.
Don't like it.
love the guitar used through the album, the use of reverb and multiple additions onto the songs and especially the lead vocalists voice is cool especially for the time but it feels slightly outdated but maybe I've been spoiled by similar sounding bands from recent times
gritty, I love it plus it has wonderwall and I'm sure everybody has heard that one before, simplistic lyrics don't always have to mean nothing y'know and I think that is what is done well here, one song can mean multiple things depending on where you are in your life, beautiful album not perfect but not every good thing needs to be.
thought it would be less punchy than it actually was but nothing wrong with that, the cover art sorta made me expect that vibe, too many songs are suffering from being outdated somehow, if I was born earlier I'd love it but since I wasn't it just doesn't resonate here
