I genuinely thought I was about to be listening to a nearly five hour album, but I noticed the words "the best of" thank God. Louis Armstrong is iconic in the music scene, so I understand wanting to give him some credit, but does this really count? Not only is it a compilation, but really a compilation of a compilation. It isn't an album to listen to, per se, rather just "hey, this artist deserves credit so he should be on the list!" Kinda ignores the "album" part of the list, but oh well. Won't instantly give it a one, though, that's a dumb thing to do, too. Just setting up my prior views before I say that this isn't really all that much to write home about. Was it a century ago? Probably, but now I hear this and just think "Portillo's." It's Dixieland jazz, nothing more, nothing less. Is it an important milestone in modern music? Of course! Is it a very good album? No, not really.
Don’t really care for this old timey jazz. It might be good but I don’t like it that much.
Yeah yeah, it's basically the most important piece of music ever to exist, but I'm not going to pretend like I get that much enjoyment from listening to an entire hour long compilation of extremely low quality trumpet recordings from a century ago.
I didn't find that this really did it for me
4 hours of scratchy jazz recordings. I guess you like Louis voice or you don't. This was a struggle to get through for me.
too long to be foisted in people .. fuck you
This was a hard listen because, well, Jazz. But what really put me off was an album that played after - how did anyone ever think that was music worth listening to??
Sure some people like it but not me
Compilation album = 1 star But I agree that Louis Armstrong should have been in the 1001 album list
This is a compilation, not really an album. I am not saying it is bad, not at all, but I guess it doesn’t apply for this exercise
