overproduced
too perfect, washes over
don't like the instruments
wtf jamaica jerk off
too competent
un-engaging
background music, tepid, MOR, boring
i do not like this at all
Noodly
Busy
Bit too dancy and upbeat
Talking Heads but rougher more disjointed
Like the singing style
Can see how influential this is - it's influenced everyone
Theme to Jackass!
Track 8 v.good
Drums sound like breaks
Too many guitar solos
Like that the songs are short
So many ideas
A lot of stuff I've consumed since the 90s has this as a part of it
Overlong
Sleeping Gas, Treason, Poppy are incredible tracks. This is a decent album. Few too many horns. All about the vocalist, his voice is the main attraction.
Like it or not I know all these songs very well.
Has a good stomp
Can't deny that it's a great record
They do what they do very well
Unashamedly what it is
Simple
Not a bad song on here
Lots of energy here, pretty different from the New Order stuff I know.
So well produced.
Slick.
Not keen on the drums.
Unmoved.
Unimpressed.
An album i know very very well. I grew up with this one. Criminology, Rainy dayz, Guillotine, Verbal intercourse, Glaciers of ice, Ice cream, Heaven and Hell, are all 100% absolute classics, some of the best hip hop ever made. The rest is made up of prime Wu Tang era production, with the two best rappers from the crew. Putting this alongside Ironman, Liquid Swords and Tical, all released within the same few years, is peak Wu Tang.
Slow
Uninteresting
Not a fan of the voices or the instruments or the pace
Did not enjoy
Silly
Fun
Song orientated
They are having a good time
Like to hear church bells
Not keen on these pianos
Like the spoken word bits
The Journey is the best song on here
Sounds like a comedy record
Nice drum break on first track
Not keen on 4/4 beats and singing with piano
Don't like the singing over dance music
Slower tracks better
I could do without listening to Groove Is In The Heart ever again
Not a big Bjork fan
Not keen on the guitars
Jangly
Good lyrics
Good voice
Stop-starty
Gets good on side 2
The Bed is an amazing track
Starts well with train sounds
Drums
Pleasant and nice
Something good is happening
It's all a bit good
Very minimal
Don't like the voice, lyrics, or music
Don't like pianos used like this
Corny
Good voice
Good energy
Busy
It's good!
Trash is v.good
This is great.
Good voice
Good guitars
Long songs
Was hoping it was over and it was
Good voice
It's good
Sounds like Magazine
Warrants repeat listens
It's excellent
Pace and swing not enjoyable
Tiger in your tank is good
Not a fan of this
Ubiquitous
A few gooduns here
4th Dimensional Transition best track on here
It's a wonderful album start to finish
Style so specific to an era
So many samples and everything else, this is foundational for hip-hop 10 years later
More social / political than I remember
Lots to like about this.
All about the voices
Song 2 was probably once good but now reduced to nothing from overexposure.
Pretty annoying voice. Silly.
Don't really know what they sounded like before so can't see why this was a change
Theme from reto is pretty ok
Death of a party drums
Chinese Bombs good
Can see how this fits into 1997
Essex Dogs good
I wonder if they have more Fall albums in the 1001, this wouldn't be my first choice.
Not my favourite version of The Fall, some great moments though, and listening The Fall is always good and better than listening to most other things
I guess this is a pretty accessible version of The Fall
Onie sounds a bit VU
This is good stuff
A good listen
I purchased this on the back of the Zero 7 remix of Up With People, a Gilles Peterson staple on Worldwide at the time. None of the record sounded like the remix, of course. But, I liked it, even though it was distant to my tastes.
Revisiting it now, it's a very pretty record.
Gets better towards the end.
My very least favourite version of The Beatles
Here Comes The Sun is v.good
Because is good
It's very pleasant. Sunny. Lyrics not always sunny. Like the production in headphones. Red Rolled and Seen is good. Sone interesting stuff going on here.
I guess there's some fun stuff on here.
Clearly good, but it's not for me.
Some of this is unlistenable.
2 stars for TOLBINY and Baby Driver
Don't know how I'm going to listen to 3 hours of this.
Amazing voice.
These songs are everywhere and these feel like superior versions.
V.good
It's very nice indeed.
Would be 5 if I was still 16 years old. The world has changed a lot since.
Like the instruments palette, bit early Tom Waits vocals, on track 1
Track 2 I like much less
Decent
There is so much about Blur I do not like. I will never listen to Boys & Girls or Parklife out of choice.
Tracy Jacks is amazing though, their best song along with Out of Time.
End of a Century is good.
If you don't like his stupid voice it's a difficult listen.
Far Out is good
Better than expected
Like his voice
First track wild
It's good
Many styles
Like it
Oh no.
This was everywhere.
Funk, horns, ba-ba-ba's
Music for food festivals
1 star for Blow Your Mind
First track absolute classic.
You can hear the elements here that will appear in future Eno production work
Cindy Tells Me - Cannibal Ox sample
So many good ideas
Title track is a top 10 track of all time for me
He is aiming for some big songs here
This is serious songwriting stuff, he means it
Father and Son is huge
This is the kind of stuff people really care about
Slow piano ballads with a good voice, it's OK.
Going for big important lyrics
It's all a bit meh
I would never listen to this out of choice.
Kind of enjoyable though.
Love that accordion
The point where I tuned out of commercial hip-hop
Don't like this production at all.
Rapping is good.
No thanks
Nothing to fault but nothing I like about it.
Big songs on here.
Perfectly pleasant
Voice is ace
VU vibes
Loads of good stuff on here
It's funny
So much good
Good start
Much more enjoyable than when I listened to it on release
A few big songs. Wouldn't come back to it.
An album I know well
Surprised I listened to this so much when it came out, it's all a bit smooth.
Sounds like The Beatles and Beach Boys
Like the psyadelic stuff
V.good
Actually does sound like the Beach Boys first track
Pretty
Time of the Season is good
So produced
Jubilant horns
Cherish is good
It's fine but it's a no.
4 stars for Streets Of Your Town
Would be no starts if possible.
Put Your Quarter Up!
Planet Rock!
It's a beautiful thing.
Nothing not to like, but I'm not that excited.
Pretty average sounding now, all the singles are excellent though.
It is what it is, and it's not for me.
Probably their best one.
Easy to forget the pay what you want release was a big deal at the time.
Not just good songs, but a collection that stands as a whole, all working towards a mood.
Some just amazing highs - the whole thing is incredible.
The most connection I could have to songs.
Don't like this production. He is v.good though.
Headnodding start
All gets a bit singer-songwritery / plodding
Great voice
Good production
Not interesting enough
It's all a bit nice and straightforward and formulaic
Opening track is not the way to turn me onto Bowie
Starman is good
Has a palette and pace I do not enjoy
Suffragette City is good
Kind of happy
So tightly produced to the point of falling apart
All The Kings Men is good
Hurts my head
Was going well until the sax
Has gone extremely well since
This is really good
The only Bowie album I've ever enjoyed. Excellent stuff.
Clearly good, but not for me
Samples galore.
Did not know the Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos sample
An interesting dig into producers source material, but not much beyond that
A lot to like but I've listened to this enough over the years to know I'm never going to be heavily invested in it
The big songs are big and very good
More fiddly than I expected
Its OK
Just stop with the sax.
Enjoyable and interesting
Good voice. Good songs. 90s.
Kim Gordon vibes
Wipers vibes
Really good
