The Velvet Underground & Nico
The Velvet UndergroundI don't even need to hear it. But of course I'll take advantage of this moment. This is as good as it gets.

One of the best albums ever. No doubt
Am I a real Neil Young fan if I consider this, a later (mid) career with no hits, among his best? Do I give a fuck? No. the guitars rule. The songs are fine. The guitar rules, did i say that? The horse is wild. This is excellent music.
this is one of my favorite albums ever. So much girl energy. I had to pretend that i wasn't head over heels (har har) in love with the Go Gos for so many years. Five stars. Every song is a winner. Great playing, great singing, even the 80s production is good. Yes yes yes
This is great for what it is. A dumb, fun hip-hop and rock hybrid. The BBoys will top this, and almost all other recorded music, with their next album Paul's Boutique. Cant deny the classics, which is damn near every song on this album. so im giving it a 4
UK Version on Spotify what a drag it is getting old. "Mother's Little Helper" is a 10. Great song. "Stupid Girl" is not. It's like, a 2. "Sweet Lady Jane". Not their best. a 6, by Stones standards "Under My Thumb"-despite being sexist as fuck, it's a 10. Brian Jones and the marimba hook. Yes "Doncha Bother Me"-despite it's unoriginality, a winner. Great Elmore James inspired slide guitar hook. 7 "I'm Going Home"-i dont remember this song much, but it's fine. a 6. "Flight 505"-dont remember this either. mick's vocal is mixed low, but that's cool. This isn't anything groundbreaking...or memorable a chooglin track called "High and Dry". It rambles. I already forgot how it goes though. 6 "Out of Time". Now that's a song. One of their tastiest choruses. a 10 "It's Not Easy" does it's job. prpbably filler, but decent filler. 5 "I Am Waiting"-Rushmore soundtrack. That's how i came to this song. Maybe that is why I love it. fucking Wes Anderson. It is an 8 "Take It Or Leave It". sounds like they trying to write a Herman's Hermits pop song. "Think"-not the song Aretha does. It's fine. a 6 This album is a 6, though it contains 4 of their best songs, and one of their stupidest. 3 stars.
Yay! If only i wasn't at work and I could smoke some reefer while I listen to this. I'm more of a Mezzanine girl. It's the one that came out in college. This is great though. I was just getting deeper into music in 1994. Hick from the sticks. This wasn't on my radar. No guitars. Twas my loss
I am not familiar with this artist at all. Yay! Finally. sounds British and croony and sad. Which is fine. Like American Music Club, minus the British. AMC...That's a cool fucking band. San Francisco. Great album. First minute that is what this reminds me of. So I might just like it.... i get a little Pulp, some Morrissey, Nick Cave and a Bad Seed or 2, Blur maybe? the schmaltzier (and good) Arctic Monkey songs.... quick google... mothafucka was in Pulp. Good call KD! and the LongPigs! Who da fuck The Long Pigs? This is fine. I like it. I will be a Richard Hawley fan when I feel like it. I learned something today. What did you learn?
so far, this is awesome. That is all.
One of the biggest travesties in alt rock is that we only got one album with Melissa Auf Der Maur as Hole's bassist and harmony queen. Luckily, it's pretty damn good. Is it as primally urgent and sad and triumphant and twisted as Live Through This? No way. But, i mean, come on. I was really anticipating this one in 1998. I was a huge fan of it's predecessor, and Courtney in general. Fascinating crazy and beautiful human. I wa sliving in a one room shit apartment as a college kid, trying to walk the straight and narrow and failing. I was lonely. I bonded with a gal who lived down the street with this album. We started sleeping together, though no relationship really came out of it. She was nice i guess, but...shit happened. We even saw the Courtney Love starring New Year's Eve film 200 Cigarettes in the theatre. It was not very good, but whatever. Title track. Classic. "Awful" is a gorgeous slice of crunchy jangly power pop. "Hit so Hard"-a breather from the awesomke, but still good "Malibu" may be the best song ever. I said it, and I can't take it back. Everything about it is fucking beautiful. "Reasons To Be Beautiful"-never found this one to be particularly memorable If memory serves, the album dips in quality a bit here. But it shall return. "Dying"-ballad? not bad. better than i remember. "Use Once and Destroy" plods. I confuse it with "Reasons To Be Beautiful". Filler i guess. Sounds like one that Billy Corgan was involved with. Waste of a great song title. the naked vulnerability of "Northern Star" is compelling, but doesnt make for a great song. "Boys on the Radio" might be the best song on the album that isn't "Malibu". Such a pretty tune. Should have been a single. Record companies make poor choices "Heaven Tonight" is a good one too.
I don't know why, but i find this album boring. I loved the one before, Different Class. Maybe this is a grower?
Uh oh. I've never been a big fan. This should be interesting. Steve Winwood and Dave Mason right? so is "Glad" a 7 minute instrumental? I'll let you know, if I make it. The wah-wah sounding horn is kind of cool. Excellent keyboardin'. Not a terrible jam. It was all instrumental. Maybe that's a good thing, cuz Winwood and the flute aren't doing "Freedom Rider" any favors. Decent guitar work in "Stranger To Himself". This band bores me. It's ok for background music, and I'm sure it was cool if you were trippin at a festival in 1971, but...not my thing. The songwriting just isn't there. Over rated for sure. I'd rather hear fucking "Roll With It" or "Back In The High Life Again" Those cheesy 80s songs are less torturous than the title track and it's bloody flutes
great metal album. I'll be listening to it more often. That is all.
1989 was the best year for hip-hop. Fight me
Have never listened to this. I have discovered some downright brilliant songs from it. This is for sure to be a profound listen. I discovered 10 years ago that Nick Cave is one of my favorites. Holy yow, this is great!
I don't even need to hear it. But of course I'll take advantage of this moment. This is as good as it gets.
Easy ten. A too 5 album for me. 1001 listens
great cars down feel good party record banger slap
of course i've heard some of these songs a million times Im not a big Sting fan I do love Andy Summers guitar stuff. And Stewart is a fine percussionist. "Walking In Your Footsteps" is new to me. I like it. i was just young enough to miss the Police as an album listener. I stole their greatest hits from someone's mailbox when i was a kid. I actually listened to it a lot. I was a self taught guitar and bass player, this was a big help. "Mother" is a bit nutty, eh? "Synchronicity II" is one of their best songs. Great melodies. Cool guitar line. The chorus rules. Just the right amount of weirdness. Pretty massive hit streak has begun. Nest up "Every Breath You Take" I cant help but love this song, despite it's ubiquity and Puff Daddy and Sting and Cat's Eye. It's one of the best pop songs ever. "King of Pain" . I remember it from the radio in Hanna City. Little kid. 1983ish. same with "Wrapped Around Your Finger". What a rad descending guitar line. Well, that took me by surprise. I actually liked most of it.
Prelude-i don't really like this. Spirit doesn't seem to have anything that stands out as great. maybe I'm wrong. We shall see....
One of the best albums ever. No doubt
I've never listened top this, but dig his bass in P.I.L. sofar...i love it
Ugh. I've avoided this for so long. I've never listened to old Genesis. Could not escape their 80s pop stuff. It was actually a pleasant listen for the most part. It's like Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins and some weird amazing guitarist had a band in the 70s. I ended up with positive feelings on this one. Cool
o yay! "The Killing Moon" is one of the greatest songs ever.
I believe this was the 1st REM tape I ever bought. I fully came around to their greatness after hearing Automatic For The People. This was 1993 I think. They would become one of my favorite bands ever. "Pop Song 89"-Great song. Catchy and energetic and playful. 8 "Get Up"-not their best song, but decent filler, which REM is capable of, for better or worse. 4 "You Are Everything"-what a beautiful song. 7 "Stand"-Of course I've heard it a billion times. It's undeniable and annoying. Peter Buck rules this song. Great solo. It modulates. Stupid video. Get a Life. 9 "World Leader Pretend"-Forgot how good this one is. Mike Mills piano FTW 8 The Wrong Child-this one doesn't floor me at all. Filler 3 Orange Crush-Badass song. More Peter Buck brilliance. One of his most rockin performances. "The One I Love" retread. Sort of. Plus a little vietnam or something and soda? 10 Turn You Inside Out is filler. Its ok. 'Finest Worksong" with a dumb chorus of "I believe in watching you" or "what you do". Its not important. 4 Hairshirt is no Harbourcoat. This album is starting run out of steam. 4 ' I dont remember I remember California. probably a reason for that. They had already released Out of Time and Automatic by the time i heard tyhis full record. No time for bad REM. That would come later.4 Untitled. more filler. 4 I fucking love REM This is good. The highs are high enough and the filler is filler. they will make a better record next time. And an even better one after that. Green is a 6 of an album. 3 stars for a 5 star band.
Ive never heard the whole album. It contains one of the greatest opening tracks ever: "Freak Scene" The rest is pretty good too.
perfect
easy 5 stars. This album (and their next 2 or 3) are a huge deal to me. Formative as a bass player. taught me to unlearn what i had just learned. and it taught me to play fast and to not give too many fucks.
bought this in 1995 at a pawn shop because they were on Matador and Pavement were said to have ripped them off. I didn't quite find it to be that exactly. But it's great. That voice is insane. What a weird dude. It grew on me. I was instantly in love with "I'm Going To Spain". Cute little song. This is fucking rad.
