Sea Change by Beck

Sad. Orchestral. Layered. This album beautifully executes layered arrangements of strings with minimal guitar riffs to create a unique atmosphere. The record sits in a strange space that moves you through waves of depression and grief. While difficult to listen in regard to Beck's depressive lyrics, each song has its own purpose and feel. When listening, you could easily close your eyes and feel like you're immersed in a vast ocean landscape moving over and under the waves. Favorite Songs: Paper Tiger, Lonesome Tears, Lost Cause, It's All In Your Mind, Sunday Sun

Chill synthetic vibes. Cool to see French folk music through electronica. Beth Hirsch is a really good vocalist.

1999 by Prince
May 10 2023

Defines an era. Explores themes of partying but is underlined by struggles with lust and sexual desires. Lush vocals and beautiful song-writing. Some cool funky songs on here such as D.S.M.R. and Lady Cab Driver. Didn't know it was possible to experience what it's like to fuck Prince but ok.

Highway to Hell by AC/DC
May 11 2023

Classic but hard rock is not my cup of tea. Some great songs in here such as self-titled, Touch Too Much, and Night Prowler. Personally, too many repetitive riffs over saturated across the album.

Lady In Satin by Billie Holiday
May 13 2023

Great voice. Feel like the instrumentation on each song sounds the same.

May 15 2023

Ambitious sounds. Fails to branch out. The title track is standout. Everything else over complicates itself with too many layers of melodies. Lyrics are pretty bland. Sounds like an overcommitted attempt to make a Pink Floyd album in the 90s

Raising Hell by Run-D.M.C.
May 16 2023

Groovy, classic, old-school hip-hop. Fun vibes. Addictive rock rap. Paved the way for future generations.

Ill Communication by Beastie Boys
May 17 2023

Honestly crazy how this album seamlessly flips between rock, punk, jazz, and funk influences. Sequencing is great. Every other song delivers fantastic instrumentals followed by catchy, distorted bangers. but the album overstays its welcome just a little bit. Loved Q-Tips performance. Favorite song: Root Down, Get It Together

Dr. Octagonecologyst by Dr. Octagon
May 18 2023

Lazy beats. Some corny bars even for the 90s. Flows are nice which compensate for some of the lack-luster rhymes but fail to save the album as a whole. Pretty disturbing. Favorite song: I’m Destructive

Blues. Folk. Emotion. 70s Rock. Best Song: Cherokee

Django Django by Django Django
Jul 19 2023

Feels like a modern rendition of the classic Beta Band (The Three EPs). This album mashes indie pop and psychedelia with aspects of electro- even dance. Feels like you’re in the front seat of a western movie with cameos of UFOs and aliens. Overall fantastic record. Firewater is the best song. Fav: Hail Bop, Default, Firewater, Wor

KIWANUKA by Michael Kiwanuka

Funky, groovy, sad. Love the distorted guitar riffs and deep bass patterns. The album flows really nicely with incredible sequencing and transitions between tracks. This is shown through several outstanding interludes and intro tracks which create incredible soundscapes of minimalist drums and soulful vocals. The whole project creates this melancholic but dramatic atmosphere. The back end of the record has a beautiful 5-track run of hazy soul ballads encased in dense layers of orchestration. Feels like: Standing on a mountain looking over the world. Favorites: I've Been Dazed, Hard to Say Goodbye, Final Days, Solid Ground, Light
