Close To The Edge
YesThis is Mars Volta right? I mean, it sounds exactly like Mars Volta. Didn’t realise they were Yes fans. Love this. Love it so much. I give it 5/4 stars

Easy 5 for me, Keith Morris is one of my all time favourite musical people. The word blistering is used often but has never been more accurate. 16 minutes of insanity. LFDY is still one of my favourite songs of all time. Gets unfairly compared to Black Flag at times but up there for me.
This album makes me feel like I’m a cool 1950’s detective driving about LA in the rain. My coffee and cigarette being rudely interrupted by a femme fatale walking into the diner. Or when you are playing Grand Theft Auto, steal a car and the jazz station is on and you’re too busy escaping the police to change the channel. I’ve heard Take Five a million times before but never knew what it was called. Cool vibe.
I’m not a fan of Talking Heads. For my media technology course the lecturer used ‘once in a lifetime’ to show different audio effects. I listened to that song about 100 times in 3 hours that day. I’ve never cared for their production, or guitar tone. It’s all too angular and scratchy and this album has a lot of it. I like David Byrne generally and the bass is funky in all these songs. Cities is the best song on it. Franz Ferdinand Loved this album. I didn’t.
“CAN YOU DIG IT, SUCCCCKKKKKAAAAA” Yes 4 spinaroonis
Easiest album I’ll ever have to review. The solo of Rapid Fire. Metal Gods & BTL are stone cold classics. Living after midnight is one of my favourite songs ever. 5 stars
Alright but not my scene. Can appreciate the musicianship and classic songs but I’m more of a Back to the Future 2 kind of guy.
Oh FFS. Minus 5 stars. Beige background music for Barry C Homeowner types. I was 20 when this came out, the weird thing was they released Shiver as a single first and it was kind of alright. It got played a lot at Paisley Student Union in 2000. Then Yellow came off the back of it and became a honking monster of a song. To the point out it’s still in that irritating DHL advert. I mean plenty people must like it. Maybe it’s me that’s wrong? No, that couldn’t possibly be it, it’s the children that are wrong. I re listened on my way home from work and my opinion hasn’t changed.
Yass, The Pumpkins at their finest. If an album ever summed up Billy Corgan as an artist it’s this. It’s overblown, it’s self indulgent, it’s a bit wanky at times but when it goes, it fucking goes. Tonight, Tonight - Jellybelly - Zero - Here is no why - Bullet with Butterfly wings is up there with any 5 song run on any guitar driven album ever. It’s ridiculous the musicianship and playing on those 5 songs. Disc 2 isn’t as good as Disc 1. Some people aren’t keen on Flood’s production on this one but I love it. Easily 5 stars.
Wasn’t my cup of tea.
I never really listened to Radiohead beyond OK Computer, but this is a bit Mars Volta-ish and I really love Mars Volta, but there’s something about Radiohead I just can’t get. Liked the first song and the last song, the rest just kind of was there
Some great, some not so great, not as amazing as I remembered it. I’m in love with my car; 39 and Prophets song are all still bangers. Bohemian Rhapsody is Bohemian Rhapsody but a lot of Filler Queen on here.
Sounds like something I should like, and they probably inspired a lot of what I like in terms of rock and punk, but it’s just not something I enjoyed. Pills was decent but it mostly sounded like a Stones tribute act writing their own songs
The album that killed Nu-Metal. I’ve never listened to the whole album before but the album as a whole is prettty good. The single’s definitely stand out though.
I liked this. More than I thought.

Weird thing, the chorus’ of the first 4 songs all finish on a variation of “like me” or “and me”. Enjoyed it
One of those bands and albums I probably should like but don’t. I hate the crowd screaming between every song. 2 decent songs the rest filler
It’s okay, not my favourite of theirs.
Couldn’t get into it at all.
More like it. A little bit of country. Will need to listen to this again in the summer while sitting out in the garden.
Was okay. At least I hope I listened to the right one as there were a couple on Spotify with the same name. Beautiful voice and neat cover of Rising Sun
Not sure that a white Scotsman is their intended audience. Really liked it.
Similar to Coldplay Parachutes this album was everywhere when I was at Uni. Thanks to MTV Europe in the 90’s I’d been along for the Moby ride before this. From techno guy to a return to his hardcore / punk roots then back to this. His “I like to score” album is still one of my all time favourites. This is interesting as I re listened to it recently after he had been on Steve-O’s podcast talking about his recovery from addiction. There’s a ton of classics on it. Body rock being on there surprised me, I’ve heard it so often over the last 25 years I’d almost forgotten it was a Moby song. 5 stars
One decent song but not for me
Never heard of the guy before now, seems like the type of music people’s parents would have listened to on holiday in Majorca in the 80’s. Night train was funky enough, reminded me of a vice city kind of song.
Don’t like Billy Bragg much, not keen on Wilco but this is somehow amazing. Listened to it while out walking on a cold November night and it brightened my night up!
Classic
I always get Steely Dan and Stealers Wheel mixed up. This is not my cup of tea, super well produced though and smoother than a babies bum. East St Louis toodle do is a soundtrack to a Mario Bros level.

No. Not for me.
Sounds like nights out in the late 1990’s. My flatmate loved this album. I like it quite a bit, but Nick Cave’s delivery is easily mocksble, second only to Type O Negative’s Pete Steele.
Not for me.
I’m a weird guy. I’m very weird musically. But this is too weird. Yours sincerely, Frank Grimes Jnr.
Forgot about this. What an album. Noise roaring then every so often an awesome riff breaks out before degenerating into nauseous sludge. Or in Napalm Death terms “DWA BRAH BURGH BUURRGGG RRRAARR DOH” Lee Dorian does the vocals on the second half of the album and he’s a tremendous singer outwith napalm death. Go listen to Hopkins (witchfinder general) by cathedral for something more palatable
It’s alright, i forgot how much Venus as a Boy and Big Time Sensuality were played back in the day. Every DJ in the 90’s had a version of Big Time Sensuality.
Yeah straight up 5. Hardly a wasted moment on this album.
One of my brothers favourite albums so have to mark it down. Can appreciate the quality but I’ve just heard it too much.
Not a fan of this one. Was huge when I was a teenager so maybe it stems from that.
Epic album. Not a wasted moment
I’m not a fan of the Stones, generally, but I listened to this between 7am and 8am walking into Stirling in sun zero temperatures and then on the train to work and it really hit the right spot. 5 out 5.
Never been into Dylan, this didn’t help
Never listened to this before. Seems more epic and expansive sounding than their usual stuff. Liked it
