We Are Family
Sister SledgeListening notes? Good music, feels very late 70s East Coast/New York disco funk. Not totally my thing but solid.

I didn't expect the album to end when it did. Kept waiting for one more song. Classic punk.
This takes me back to 1994. An amazing album. Truly worth listening to more than the singles. A nice balance between punk/rap. Very NYC. The instrumental pieces are so underrated (at the time never got air time but really show the quality). I still know most of the words. Still so very good.
Classic
Another classic! I'm on the fence with Dylan. I can not deny the greatness, but man, his musicianship could be better. But it did shaped a generation, so it is hard to fault it. Again, glad I listened, but I don't think it will go into daily rotation.
Love the Beatles. Don't love this album.
Not my favorite
I love this album so very much.
So I know I should like this album. But I just didn't. It could be that it would be amazing to hear live, but it was like there was something missing that I couldn't put my finger on.
Oh Tom waits, I love it! It feels like you are really sitting in a club.
Having never actually listened to Pink Floyd before. Clearly I have heard much of their music over the years.... But never in the album unit. And it is rather wonderful. I understand why people enjoy it so. The instrumental parts are very good.
Very Berlin 1920. I can't figure out if I want to listen with a score, so I can really follow what is happening, or if I should just listen for the shape of the line. I also don't really know enough about Germany to fully understand the deeper meaning.
Amazing.
It speaks of a time (mid/late 90s) and a place (uk club). I find example of that exact thing but it doesn't feel ground breaking or revalutionary.
I'm finding this a bit middle of the road. The vocals a good. The orchestra is good. But it isn't knocking my socks off.
This album is neither the Beatles nor James. And oddly might be a DNF. Well I have two more songs to go. I think there are better albums from this time and in this genera. Ooooh a hidden track, that's fun in the digital age.
Good good. No real comments to either for or against.
A classic. Which I have never listened through all the through. 1992 southern CA is a time and place. I don't know if this album is inline with the actual truth, but there it is.
Amazing. classic.
Still good going on 40 years old. It reminds me of being a kid when the music was everywhere. I'm on fire is still a cheesy song.
I used to listen to this a lot when I was a kid. But I feel like the music had lost some of its richness over the years. Like the recording could have had a fuller sound (maybe it was my phone, or the room I was in, or my memory being different).
Kind of amazing. Back in the day I used to listen to the pixies but somehow I never listened to this album. There was lots of instrumentals which is also really great. It is hard to hide when there is not vocals.
I felt like I needed to get much more dressed up to listen to this. And drink a martini. It was a tight album. Vocals were amazing.
Amazing!
Very 80s goth. I was just missing my eyeliner.
A classic.
A few days I listened to a song or two, but just couldn't get into the album. A second listen is helping. Also figuring out where in time this album sits also really helps. I can understand the importance and what it influenced next. I know the old rockers not the stuff that made them famous, and honestly I think I understand why.
As always, Tom waits is amazing.
I get this weird feeling from Jack White. Like there is some sort of weird southern Gothic alternate universe he has come from. And he has seen things no one else has seen. The music is solid.
A jem!
I can see the strains of amazing in this album. It feels very early 90s. I think her later stuff is better. Her vocals are just.... Breathtaking.
This album was so long!
I'm surprised by the year. This sounds later then 1994. Which might point to why this is on this list. Very tight, if a bit shocking to be to shocking.
The later remixes I think are better but an ok listen.
Amazing that I didn't listen to this before An amazing voice, irreverent lyrics. A huge talent.
New album for me but not new songs. His poetry is lovely and there are many amazing exams here. His voice hasn't dropped and is still smooth, but totally hypnotic.
It took me two tries to get through this album. Sonically it is a wall of sound for the first chunk and my brain can't always handle that. Very 70s, pretty German.
A classic. I enjoyed it.
So mellow.
I loved this album. So many listens back in the day. It holds up really beautifully. I also like the instrumentals a lot. They have ages very well.
A classic. I don't know if I listened to the whole album before. But upbeat and lovely.
Oh man, I can smell damp shoes and wet hoodies. Portlanders don't wear raincoats or carry umbrellas! Perma wet cotton is where it is at for months on end. And dark. No sun. And this music reflects this. Like a quiet walk home after a house party, with a light drizzle. Just enough rain to make your glasses speckled but not enough to get you truly wet. I'm a bit surprised I hadn't listen to any Elliott Smith, really, till now.
Interesting given the time period. I would have placed this later in time if I didn't see the release date. The face it was from 2 years earlier is interesting.
It felt like I walked into the wrong party. It was a great party. But I don't know if I would have been invited or if I was stoned enough to stay.
Cultural appropriation at its finest! But you can also tell why they grew into what they grew into. I enjoyed the later half of the album.
A band friends were obsessed with in high school. I never listened. I can see why the obsession.
Sadly, I found this album to be forgettable. Like it was on and I listened. But it would stay in my head long enough to firm an opinion.
Too 1970s for my taste.
Mah. Iconic song, so so album.
Reasonable. Glad I listened. Not earth shattering.
Smooth.
Tennessee country at its finest. I'm guessing this is the original love hurts song as well.
Nothing I ever listened to straight through. But I'm sure I've heard it all before
Miles Davis is an amazing horn player. Simple but true. The depth of his playing was sublime.
A little too sacra 1970s for my taste. But extremely well crafted and executed. It's a shame that Karen and Carpenter didn't live longer. It'd be amazing to hear what she would have come up with.
I understand why these are classics. Nothing really jumped out at me on this listen.
The guitar reminds me of Buddy Holly. There's some interesting originals. Not totally wowed by it though.
Captures a time and a feeling. But I can't seem to get myself to finish the album. Which says something about it.
Love it
A classic that has not fully listened through. I'm guessing would be better stones, or at least not listening to first thing in the morning.
I used to have a mix with some of this stuff, but no names so I could really find it again. This is so joyous!
Classics. Iconic. And sort of mah.
Lovely. The first track being very well known. But very smooth.
A classic. Listened to part on shuffle, I don't recommend that.
I don't think that I've listen to this I've before. You can see what they grew into.
Her voice is breath taking.
I feel like, given the dates on this album, that this is what everyone copies. I expected to not like it, but I found that it was rather well put together.
