1001 Albums Summary

Lots of great songs. Holiday is an all-time running playlist favorite. Apparently they wrote it as a punk opera and it was staged as a musical. I want to listen again with the lyrics so I can follow the story.

All the tracks sounded EXACTLY the same. The guitar was pretty good. Vocals were scratchy and atonal

At first, I thought I would not like experimental Icelandic pop, but it turns out I quite enjoyed it

Have you ever worked with someone talented who was then promoted and turned out to be a disaster at managing things? That is how I feel about Jack White. Probably a talented musician but should be under a grown up’s direction. This album feels like a bunch of half formed ideas from a jam session rather than thoughtful finished songs. I started listening in a relatively good mood and by the time it ended I was fairly annoyed.

My son said this album sounds like a producer asked somebody to make a bunch of tracks for a popstar to sing over, but then they forgot to record the actual vocals

Enjoyed it. I love some songs by the Smiths, but they weren’t on this album, but I like their sound

This album was so fun. Loved the first 2 songs and really enjoyed listening to it. The back half of the album dragged a bit. Wish I could give it 3.5

Some really great guitar, licks, but nothing special. When I read the Wikipedia about the album, the idea is that this was a precursor to heavy metal, but before this or contemporary with this, you had Jimmy Hendrix “Purple Haze” you had Rolling Stones “paint it black”, you had Cream, so I don’t feel like this was really all that revolutionary or special

It was fine. Like background music in a store

I bet it would’ve been amazing to be there. It was fun to hear the screaming and hollering. I also really enjoyed the horns.

I wanted to like it. I liked some of the music, but it was repetitive, and the singing was annoying.

Rounded up to 4 for “Rainy Day in June” and “Sunny Afternoon”. I enjoyed this one

Everything about this album was terrible. I don’t know who made this list of the albums, but this is awful. Objectively, no redeeming qualities.

I appreciate the musicality, the arrangements, the guitar playing. But the lead singer’s voice is like nails and a chalkboard to me and makes me want to punch something.

Seven Nation Army earns this an extra star, otherwise so over the white stripes.

I like some Daft Punk songs a lot, a whole album of them is a little too much.

I was surprised that I knew every song on this album, also surprised they were only four.

I didn’t think it was gonna be to my taste, but I quite liked some of it, especially her takedown of gangster, rap culture on the song a little more.
