Playing With Fire
Spacemen 3I hadn’t heard of this album or group, so I had no expectations. It ended up on my favorites list. This was such a vibe and transported me somewhere else in a different time.

Favorites: Thunder Road Tenth Avenue Freeze Out is energetic! Born To Run is nice, easy listening Other Notes: Night is very theatrical Backstreets - the vocals are intense Lyrics: “With eyes that shine like the midnight sun, she’s the one” I like the album, but I didn’t add it to my library.
Loves: Station to Station Golden Years Word on a Wing TVC15 Wild is the Wind Other Notes: - Station to station has a really cool instrumental intro with the guitars and clicks and then goes ethereal - station to station sounds like get back - is Word on a Wing a love song?
Loves: Notes: I did not like the opener. I don’t seem to like most of the melodies even if the rest of the song sounds interesting (pilgrimage)
Loves: With a Little Help from my friends Lucy Leaving Home Mr. K Within without - sitar Other Notes: Love the intro since it’s a concept
Loves: Mannish Boy - this song makes me feel WILD Bus Drive I Want to be Loved #2 Jealous Man I Can’t be Satisfied Deep Down in Florida Notes: The voice and the POWER <3 They’re all bangers. And this is why I’m listening to all these random ass albums.
Loves: Sierra Leone Sweet Life Pyramid Pink Matter Dislikes: Super Rich Kids Pilot Jones Notes: The vibe is so close to being there. I love the experimental elements, the genre blending, the vocals, and the whole idea, but it needs to go a little further.
Notes: Jack’s voice and guitar is always a highlight for me, but I’m not exactly vibing with this album.
I’m going into this with very little info on the artist or even what the genre is. Starting out, I’m not sure how to feel. I definitely feel uneasy and confused. I suspect this is probably brilliantly giving the feelings and visuals that were intended. It clicked starting with Ponderosa and got deeper after that. I bet some of this would hit at a rave. As someone who plays the flute I really appreciate Aftermath. Loves: Black Steel Hell is Around the Corner Aftermath Abbaeon Fat Tracks Suffocated Love You Don’t
I like the calm start with the light flute. These songs are either boring or even annoying(come on! Feel the illinois) for me so far, but lyrically I’m interested, and it had a nice flow. Maybe I’ll come back to try to understand the stories.
Loves: Rehab You Know I’m No Good - love the tropical feel Back to Black Notes: Her voice was so good. I’m going into this with a little familiarity, but I’ve never heard the entire album. I get mafioso noir jazzy vibes, and that’s sexy and beautiful.
Loves: Shake Your Hips Sweet Virginia Ventilator Blues I Just Want to See His Face Let it Loose Shine a Light Notes: The beginning of this album makes me wanna dance like a wild woman. I enjoyed the album in general, but I feel like a couple songs could have been cut for the beginning to end journey. I really like how the blues and gospel elements are mixed into some songs (like “Let it Loose”). “Stop Breaking Down” sounded most like the general sound I associate with The Rolling Stones (very limited listening history), but there was a very nice range of sounds on this album. The intro to Shine a Light was so unexpected and beautiful.
I liked the rawness in the beginning, but it lost me halfway through.
Loves: Three Babies :( Black Boys on Mopeds Nothing Compares 2 U The Last Day of our Acquaintance Notes: The intro to the first song definitely sets a mood, and her voice with the strings hits. This album (so far) is so painful, but she makes it so beautiful, pain and acceptance I’m assuming this album is deeply personal, and I’m totally invested in her story. Black Boys on Mopeds tore me apart. What a powerful political song! Her voice and those chords drew me into that song so much. Nothing Compares 2 U, fr. Instantly one of my favorite songs, all time. The name of the album just clicked with the last song. Chef’s kiss.
4 for variety. I’ll probably revisit this one, but get the setting and substances right.
Loves: 1999 Little Red Corvette Delirious D.M.S.R Automatic All the Critics Love you in New York Notes: I’m going into this having listened to a handful of popular Prince songs a lot and some deeper cuts a few times. Little Red Corvette is one of my all time favorite songs. I like “1999” (song), but it is at the bottom of the Prince songs I know well.
Loves: Marcus Garvey Old Marcus Garvey Jordan River Red, Gold and Green Notes: The historical recollections through storytelling are what made this album for me. Some songs really hit, but I haven’t smoked enough of this bowl to completely get into all of them. I did end up looking up Marcus Garvey and learning some stuff, which I think may have been the intension. Oh, and I’m able to feel his emotions through his vocals on Jordan River.
It was okay.
Loves: Silver Raven No Other Strength of Strings From a Silver Phial Some Misunderstanding Notes: This is probably going in my regular rotation. Totally my typical genre and it sounds so good, and the lyrics are ethereal. “Fiery rain and rubies cooling in the sun”
Wow 🥲 It’s beautiful and full and energetic. I had heard Tiny Dancer before, but nothing else. I favorited every song.
I’m a sucker for a moody acoustic guitar.

I LOVED this album, but I didn’t expect to. I’ve heard a handful of the most popular U2 songs, and those never piqued my curiosity to search out more. But this album is different. The only song I didn’t love was 40, but I get it and I get why it’s there. Now I’m wondering if I should listen to more of their albums in their entirety.
I loved this entire album. It was a vibe, and now I’m listening to everything on the deluxe version.
I love Time of the Season, but not feeling the rest
