Dirty by Sonic Youth

this album went all over the place for me. i didnt really see much consistency and there were a lot more duds than hits. i am also not a fan of kims vocal delivery in this album. i like the mixing for the album though; drums sound nice. towards the second half, it got a little tiring and boring to listen to. the highs are good at least. 3 personal favs: sugar kane, chapel hill

Rip It Up by Orange Juice

its ok; fun but ok. poor man’s talking heads at times if i gotta be honest, but i still enjoyed those parts. the rest i felt pretty indifferent to though. the enjoyment in side a dwindled as it went further down, and i thought side b was better in terms of enjoyment. i dont like the lead vocals voice though and i felt it ruined some songs. overall, i liked it more than i expected to coming into this. 3 personal favs: a million pleading faces, flesh of my flesh

Already rated this on rym (4/5). However, after a relisten, I dropped my rating to 3.5, but leaning towards a 4. A classic, but not really one to revisit as a whole. tracks straight outta compton, fuck tha police, gangsta gangsta, and express yourself are obvious highlights of the album. side a is a pretty good track run. side b (express yourself an exception) is pretty much full of duds and was a slog to get through. rated original track listing Personal favs: gangsta gangsta (eazy e verse goes crazy), express yourself

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac
Jun 04 2024

i put off on listening to this for too long mostly cause i thought the genres were boring. the album cover is cool and this is a really well recorded album. however, you can tell which songs are the intended highlights since its kind of jarring at times with the jump in quality of the songs. the highs are great and the lows are ok at worst. the lyrics to oh daddy feels icky. 4 personal favs: dreams, the chain, you make loving fun

Born In The U.S.A. by Bruce Springsteen
Jun 05 2024

the first track really set the tone for this album. its so intentionally cheesy with the production and patriotic lyrics. id feel less embarrassed to have ayesha erotica play in a car full of people than born in the usa. that being said, this isnt something that i would listen to on the regular or in full at all, but the singles are good. 2 personal favs: im on fire

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by The Smashing Pumpkins
Jun 06 2024

never got into this because of the length (2 hours??); this has the length of two albums combined. side a has a very strong lineup, but side b is a little shakier, but intimate. anyway im glad i got to listen to this album cause its beautiful. the production unfortunately isnt the best which really is a shame, but i can still feel the emotions poured into a lot of the songs. first time listening to tonight, tonight got me tearing up. 4 personal favs: tonight, tonight 🤯 here is no why, galapogos, 1979, by starlight

Gorillaz by Gorillaz
Jun 07 2024

i have listened to this album before and gave it a score of 3.5. this album is packed full of fillers; ok but doesnt really stand out. i used to listen to gorillaz through their music videos back in middle school, so i’m familiar with the singles. that includes 5/4 as well, but i dont fw it as much as the other featured songs. as a standalone trip hop album, it’s pretty solid, but unfortunately since i dont care much about trip hop, its hard to stay interested in the rest of the album besides a couple tracks like new genius brother and sound check gravity. 3 personal favs: tomorrow comes today, rock the house, 19-2000 soulchild remix

Coat Of Many Colors by Dolly Parton
Jun 09 2024

this album is pretty short clocking at around 27 minutes so the listen went by pretty quick. im not sure where else i heard dolly parton from but i didnt really enjoy this album all so much. it was a boring listen imo since everything sounded samey. country isnt something that i listen to often but i feel like im better off listening to someone else like townes van zandt. the album itself is tolerable but i wouldnt listen to it again. 3 personal favs: my blue tears

Highway 61 Revisited by Bob Dylan
Jun 10 2024

harmonica goes crazy. i always avoided listening to bob dylan because im not really all that big on lyricism. the storytelling in the songs are great though, especially ballad of a thin man. i just feel bad because im not fully appreciating the songwriting from bob dylan. the harmonica still goes crazy though and i like his voice. 4 personal favs: ballad of a thin man, queen jane approximately, desolation row

Moondance by Van Morrison
Jun 11 2024

i thought this whole thing was going to be the usual singer songwriter folk album but moondance surprised me. besides moondance and into the mystic, i cant really get behind the rest of the tracks. nothing wrong with them since theyre all pretty easy to listen to, but just not for me. i enjoyed side a more than side b though. 3 personal favs: into the mystic

some of the songs, and only some, sounded cool but lyrically i cannot get behind it. for the time, it wss probably normal for these kind of lyrics for nu metal, but i cant help but cringe at them. some songs also drag a whole lot which did not make my listening experience much easier. the vocals didnt make it any better either. unfortunately, i couldnt find any enjoyment from listening to this. 1 personal favs:

A Seat at the Table by Solange
Jun 13 2024

well recorded album with the production. cranes in the sky has really nice drums. the bass maraca combo in mad is cool. though i cant quite put my finger on what isnt making me click with the album. something like this is usually something id enjoy, but i dont really feel it as much with this album. perhaps its the direction of the album? i think a clear critique i can pinpoint is that there is a lack of a standout track; it all sounds pretty one noted. 3 personal favs: cranes in the sky, mad

Seventh Tree by Goldfrapp
Jun 14 2024

mindblowing opener. the warm and lush guitar and strings with the slightly childish vocals really comes together and feels so ethereal despite the song being about fake tits; love it. to be honest, i did not expect much from this based on the album cover and the artist name. i thought this was going to be some pop or country music from the 2000s. definitely did not expect this direction at all. however, besides the first three track run, the rest seemed pretty underwhelming. theyre still ok, but i dont really find standing out a whole lot. because of that, i wouldnt find myself listening to most of these tracks again. 3 personal favs: clown, little bird

Rust Never Sleeps by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Jun 15 2024

really good acoustic and folk rock. i enjoy the lush guitar on side a as well as neil’s vocals. based on the lyrics though, this is a pretty melancholic album. coupled with the pretty uptone instruments, it makes it feel bittersweet. side b sounds more like hard rock. the switch up from side a to b caught me a little offguard. not all of side b hit as hard as side a initially did. welfare mothers went on a little too long for my liking; same for sedan delivery. overall, i enjoyed the listen, and i can see myself revisiting this album. 4 personal favs: my my hey hey, thrasher, powderfinger

Dirty by Sonic Youth
Jun 16 2024

this album went all over the place for me. i didnt really see much consistency and there were a lot more duds than hits. i am also not a fan of kims vocal delivery in this album. i like the mixing for the album though; drums sound nice. towards the second half, it got a little tiring and boring to listen to. the highs are good at least. 3 personal favs: sugar kane, chapel hill

Orbital 2 by Orbital
Jun 17 2024

old school techno (and trance); great on its own, but i could never get into it as much as i wanted to because of its repetitiveness. that’s one of the main appeals of techno, but it doesnt suit me all too well. despite that, i still like a lot of the tracks here, and i would listen to them again if they are in rotation in my playlist. im not too well versed in the history of edm, but this seems pretty groundbreaking probably at the time at was made. second half took a little dip for me but i can see the vision. 3 personal favs: lush 3-1, impact (the earth is burning)

The Bends by Radiohead
Jun 18 2024

my favorite radiohead album out of the big trilogy. i love just about every track on here. if i were to nitpick, i dont like thoms vocal delivery on the chorus for bones. i also think sulk is good, but not great. other than that, most of them are hits and some of my all time favorites from radiohead even. 5 personal favs: planet talex, fake plastic trees, (nice dream), my iron lung

Deep Purple In Rock by Deep Purple
Jun 19 2024

ive avoided hard rock for the longest time and i blame the influence acdc had on me. any time i saw the genre tag i would be put off on listening to the album. however, over time, ive warmed up to it, and realized that it can go fucking nuts after listening to the stooges fun house and raw power. anyway, this album also goes pretty crazy. its a shame that there isnt a full remaster of the album, but the energy still remains. i do think side b is weaker compared to a, but its still very good. i cant believe i didnt listen to these because of dummy poopoo acdc (no offense). 4 personal favs: speed king, child in time, flight of the rat, hard lovin man

Mothership Connection by Parliament
Jun 20 2024

fun funk, but i did get bored halfway through listening to it. i found p-funk wants to get funked up more annoying than enjoyable because of the lyrics, but the rest of side a was pretty enjoyable. i didnt enjoy side b though. even the highlight of side b, give up the funk, was just ok to me. maybe im just soulless idk i didnt like how repetitive the lyrics were. it was tolerable and enjoyable at times but i wouldnt listen to again. 3 personal favs: unfunky ufo

Entertainment by Gang Of Four
Jun 21 2024

i thought this was pretty good. i already listened to this prior to the generator. i can hear the influence this had on a lot of other things like franz ferdinands take me out. the bass tone throughout the album is very pleasing to the ears as well. i dont really have much else to say. 4 personal favs: ether, naturals not in it, damaged goods

Doolittle by Pixies
Jun 22 2024

ive listened to this a while back when i seriously started listening to music. then, i felt like i didnt have enough influence to enjoy this and thought of it as very boring. now though, i think its a good record. side a is really great, but i cant really say the same for side b. side b took a big dip in quality for me and i didnt really enjoy most of it. at least hey and gouge away are pretty good. after revisiting though, i can appreciate it more, but i still think side b wasnt that good. 4 personal favs: wave of mutilation, monkey gone to heaven

Music Has The Right To Children by Boards of Canada
Jun 23 2024

its so cold. idm is so expansive and diverse. it can sound so different from release to release (bogdan, boc, aphex twin as low hanging fruit examples). im more used to the aphex twin mainstream type of idm, and maybe a little bogdan. when i initially listened to this a while ago, it didnt really click with me. with this relisten, i embraced this cold, cryptic atmosphere that its trying to set and i think it really works. i was put off by boc’s works especially this one and geogaddi, but now it isnt so bad. the samples used throughout the album help contribute to the mysterious tone that it sets and makes me kind of uncomfortable as intended i guess. someday i hope to understand this even more, but for now im pretty satisfied with the listen. 4 personal favs: eagle in your mind, turquoise hexagon sun, rue the whirl, aquarius

The Stranger by Billy Joel
Jun 24 2024

im normally not the right demographic for this, but i thought it was pretty good. the entirety of side a was nice; the run from side a to vienna in side b was all hits. although i thought just the way you are was a little cheesy for my liking, the instrumental was nice. speaking of side b, it was definitely underwhelming compared to side a. she’s always a woman, and of course vienna, was great, but i was pretty indifferent to the rest. overall, i enjoyed the listen, and would relisten to most of the tracks here. 4 personal favs: the stranger, scenes from an italian restaurant

Tusk by Fleetwood Mac
Jun 25 2024

like dreams, it’s a very well recorded album. i read that despite the production costs exceeding dreams and being the most expensive at the time, they still had very jank setups for some songs (using a kleenex box for snare). i just found that interesting and nothing more. while the songs sounded nice, most of them didnt really invoke an emotion out of me. besides the singles or standouts, im indifferent to the rest. i think tusk being a double album didnt help either; got boring after side b imo. i think side a was the best, followed by side b. side c was pretty weak and side d was ok. 3 personal favs: over & over, sara

Faust IV by Faust
Jun 26 2024

ive heard krautrock songs in albums not associated with krautrock, but never listened to an album primarily about krautrock. i came into this expecting what i heard before, which now that i think about probably werent mainly krautrock songs, it sure was different. based on release date, this was released in the middle of the krautrock peak but idk cause im not an expert. it was a pretty jarring listen in its entirety. the opener was good, but i didnt think of it as a song with relistenability, but an experience; was nice but hard to listen outside of album perspective. the shorter tracks didnt have enough time to develop and i felt like it overall lacked something. i accept that pure krautrock isnt really my thing, but i appreciate the genre. 3 personal favs: krautrock, jennifer

Rip It Up by Orange Juice
Jun 27 2024

its ok; fun but ok. poor man’s talking heads at times if i gotta be honest, but i still enjoyed those parts. the rest i felt pretty indifferent to though. the enjoyment in side a dwindled as it went further down, and i thought side b was better in terms of enjoyment. i dont like the lead vocals voice though and i felt it ruined some songs. overall, i liked it more than i expected to coming into this. 3 personal favs: a million pleading faces, flesh of my flesh

Live At Leeds by The Who
Jun 28 2024

i listened to the 77 minute one, which included included interaction with the audience and additional tracks. the drums are amazing on this on both the bonus and original tracks. i know those tracks were cut in the original due constraints in space, but i wonder why tracks like heaven and hell was cut because i think it easily outshines original tracks like summertime blues and shakin all over. nevertheless, the whole experience with everything together really made it feel like i was listening to it live too. tracks were pretty fun except for a quick one while hes away that one sucked to listen through. 4 personal favs: heaven and hell, i cant explain, young man blues, magic bus

The Chronic by Dr. Dre
Jun 29 2024

i listened to this before, and my opinion remains pretty much the same after a relisten. this album is very front loaded imo. it has a pretty good track run (excluding intro track) from the start to lil ghetto boy, then it goes downhill from there. i think the album goes on too long from here and couldve went without some of the tracks on the back half; just got so boring that listening became a chore getting through it. i give this a 3.5 like my prior listen, but leaning towards 3 due to this rating system. 3 personal favs: fuck with dre day, let me ride

Haunted Dancehall by The Sabres Of Paradise
Jun 30 2024

i cant even lie, this was a snoozefest even if you play it in the background while doing something. im confused on why this is on the list because theres better idm out there. i thought that it might be a big influence to idm at the time, but this released in 1994, which is about where idm really started to picked up. did they run out of albums to put in the 1001 list perhaps? “techno’s first concept album” ok i guess?? but i dont know what the concept was supposed to be exactly. i didnt hear this as "haunted" dancehall or anything just dub with idm surrounding the dub thats in the middle. portishead remix and the dub songs in the middle were ok i guess. the run time was so long i checked the longer songs progress every minute and had to suffer through the rest of the song. my loss for not being able to appreciate this but oh well. also im ngl i read a review from rym on this that said this sounded like "the soundtrack to a bad detective game with no funding behind it" and laughed my ass off to that; facts my brother 🗣️🗣️ anyway, listen was tolerable but i wouldnt again, even for individual tracks imo. 2 personal favs: planet d, wilmot

Liquid Swords by GZA
Jul 01 2024

i listened to this a while ago but stopped after cold world; never picking it up since. i didnt feel like this albums for me because i cant dig that far deep into their lyrics. just a me problem though. a great hip hop album nonetheless. i liked gzas flow and the guest rappers from wu tang as well. rzas beats are always nice, but im not too fond of the intros to some of the songs. i know its a wu tang thing to include dialogues from kung fu movies, but i feel like it only works in the context of the album and hurts the listenability in a playlist. other than that, everything else hit pretty well. 4 personal favs: shadowboxin, bible (not a gza song but whatever)

Dire Straits by Dire Straits
Jul 02 2024

didnt really care about it all too much. this is a singles album to me cause i only really enjoyed the singles from it. side a i didnt really care about besides down to the waterline, but side b was a pretty decent run to me. im not built for dad rock. 3 personal favs: down to the waterline, wild west end

Jul 03 2024

listened prior to this generation; love the album and have been listening to most of the songs pretty often. as the title suggests, this is just a selection of songs put into sort of a compilation(?), so i didnt really feel the need to appreciate the collection as an entire album. the classics hit of course, but i do still find some songs challenging to get into. common examples that i think most also share the same consensus are the songs green calx, schottkey 7th path, hedphelym, and delphium. however, i pretty fond of the latter two, with hedphelym being the hot take (sleeper favorite). anyway, great album; can definitely listen to all with focus or as background music. 4 personal favs: tha, pulsewidth, ageispolis, hedphelym, delphium

1977 by Ash
Jul 04 2024

its so meh. it was such a boring listen because of how samey it sounded all throughout the album. i dont think any of the songs except some at the start brought anything to the table. lose control and girl from mars were both ok, but the rest were pretty abominable. even back half track run as just background noise became close to unbearable by angel interceptor. yeah, just not a fan of this one. 2 personal favs: lose control

Jul 05 2024

pretty good. i listened to the ultimate mix and lennons vocals and the drums were so clear. the listen overall was pretty enjoyable. idk what else to say its just nice and the songwriting felt sincere. that cookie part in hold on caught me off guard though. 4 personal favs: mother, isolation, love

Bat Out Of Hell by Meat Loaf
Jul 06 2024

not a fan, but i do appreciate the work. honestly, besides the openers to each side, i did not care much about the rest. rock opera is something that is hard for me to grasp, but its not the fault of the genre; just not my thing. i wouldnt listen to this again, but was good to experience once. 3 personal favs: bat out of hell, paradise by the dashboard light

Sister by Sonic Youth
Jul 07 2024

i gave this a 2 a while ago. i didnt like how it sounded and if got annoying and boring at times. after a relisten, i can say that its a 3 now. i really wish the album had more songs like schizophrenia since that was the only song i really enjoyed put of the album. i didnt care much about the rest of the songs. side a was a rollercoaster of ups and downs with my enjoyment, but with the ups being a mild like. side b was consistently just ok to me. even seperating the art from the artists, its still just ok to me. 3 personal favs: schizophrenia

Chris by Christine and the Queens
Jul 08 2024

i didnt like it. i never liked this kind of 80s throwback kind of pop in the first place. this one in particular was very boring, and was a drag to listen through. i listened to the english one, and really did not feel the need to relisten to this again in french. i love synthpop, but this was just so mid. its tolerable for a listen, but just so mind numbing. sorry. 2 personal favs: doesnt matter

Ágætis Byrjun by Sigur Rós
Jul 09 2024

going into this, i had no idea what to expect since im not much of a post rock listener (with few influences from some artists like slint) and because its such a broad genre. its a beautiful album though; really like this type of dreamy post rock sound because it sounds so ethereal. no idea what its about though since its in icelandic. if someone were to ask me irl what my favorite song from this album was, id have no idea how to say it. no malice to that, but funny thinking about saying “yea my favorite song is ‘vaahahds vau tskks lisifjdjsl.’” really enjoyed the listen, but i can still find some nitpicky parts i didnt enjoy as much. 4.5 but a 4 here personal favs: staralfur, viorar vel til loftarasa

Gasoline Alley by Rod Stewart
Jul 10 2024

i didnt enjoy the listen. i know generation is random, but man am i really getting sick of these dad rock albums selected so close to each day. no disrespect, but to me, these are a drag to listen to; a snoozefest most of the time. i didnt particularly enjoy any of the songs here unfortunately, but i guess the drums in some of the songs sounded nice. its meh, but i wanted the album to end throughout my listen. 2 personal favs:

Hounds Of Love by Kate Bush
Jul 11 2024

good album. i listened to this before and only a couple songs really stuck to me. i sort of get the same feeling on this relisten, but i appreciate the songs i didnt look into as much before more. hounds of love side swept except cloudbusting i still dont really like it all that much. the ninth wave side was still a little more tricky. i dont feel as much attachment to this side. i get that its a concept album, but i didnt really enjoy much of the tracks at least as much as hounds of love side. im not saying its bad though cause i still liked it. definitely a welcome listen. 4 personal favs: hounds of love, the big sky

Blonde On Blonde by Bob Dylan
Jul 12 2024

damn he really ramped up his harmonica usage compared to highway 61 revisited. someone gotta get the harmonica away from this menace. anyway, its a nice album and i enjoyed it as much as i did for highway 61 revisited. i really liked the run from one of us must know to just like a woman; hit after hit besides leopard skin pill box hat but that songs still fine. pretty indifferent to most of side a and c but theyre still nice songs. pledging my time sounded like a comedy relief song until bob started singing and i found that really funny for some reason. the lyrics overall are pretty nice, though im not really one to dive too deep into it. id listen to most of these again. 4 personal favs: one of us must know, i want you, sad eyed lady of the lowlands

Surfer Rosa by Pixies
Jul 13 2024

i thought it would be like doolittle, but it just didnt click with me. i found a lot of the songs to be pretty boring. side a was stronger than side b, but even still, i found it to just be ok. the highlight songs were also just ok to me; i didnt really like gigantic and where is my mind all that much. the rest of side b was very meh; didnt like it. im disappointed, not just my feelings towards this album, but also that i cant find a reason to like or appreciate this as much as i wanted to. 3 personal favs: bone machine

Brothers by The Black Keys
Jul 14 2024

its eh. none of the songs really stood out to me. cool blues rock i guess but it felt so samey. not sure why this is on the list because of that. the middle especially just blended into each other and made it pretty boring to sit through. it really feels like most of these can fit in a truck commercial, and i dont mean that in a good way. id give it a 2.5 but probably wouldnt bump it to a 3 since i didnt enjoy the listen. 2 personal favs: everlasting light

Figure 8 by Elliott Smith
Jul 15 2024

i enjoyed the listen. the album has 16 songs at 52 minutes, but i really felt that it passed by pretty quick. the bulk of the songs were easy to digest and i can find myself listening to majority of the songs again. i thought it was going to have a different kind of sound at first becuase of the indie pop tag, but this leaned more towards kinda folk songwriting. i dont mind that and i think elliotts songwritings really good. 4 personal favs: la, stupidity tries, happiness

Channel Orange by Frank Ocean
Jul 16 2024

franks voice and the production is always great on his releases. ive been listening to this on and off for a while prior to this generation. i enjoyed almost all of the songs here except for thinking bout you that just never clicked with me for some reason. consistency is kind of iffy for me, but i dont think its necessarily a bad thing here. i like the drums in sweet life and monks, and they ended up as my favorites because of that. 4 personal favs: sweet life, pyramids, monks

Jul 17 2024

this album was so boring to me. shame cause the album cover looks so cool. i get that this is a political album so its meant to have this satirical tone, but i really did not care for this at all; felt so cheesy listening to this that i just wanted this album to end quicker. i had to take a long break between side a and b, and even dreaded having to listen to side b. i wouldnt say that this is a 1 because its not like bad bad, just really boring. 2 personal favs:

Manassas by Stephen Stills
Jul 18 2024

oh boy a double album from the 70s with a genre that im indifferent to! surely i will have a fun time this listen; a surprise that that i ended up not enjoying this album. ill admit side a was pretty ok, hits here and there. but holy shit was side b c d (ok d was kind of ok but still eh) a total snoozefest. if this album was just side a and c ok cool ig albums ok. double album of this though guh. over the course of the listen my score went from anticipating a 3 to dropping down to a 2. i was just tired after the listen. anyway yea its a 2 personal favs: song of love, both of us

Snivilisation by Orbital
Jul 19 2024

ykw this is really starting to make me hate music. im not talking about just this album but this 1001 list sucks ass tbh. with generations like these makes me wonder how they even made it to the list in the first place. normally id steer clear away from shit i know i wouldnt like at a glance but with these generations as obligations made me realize that i had it good by just listening to shit i know id like before. anyway end of rant; album is so meh and drags on for so long. i wouldnt say its worse than that stinky haunted dancehall album but its real close to it. the length is just so brutal. i get that its to build the atmosphere but this album can really be cut in half and there wouldnt be a difference except for the length. this is like music theyd play when youre put on hold in a phone call and im not talking about the good kind like opus no 1. 2 personal favs: forever

Superfly by Curtis Mayfield
Jul 20 2024

finally something thats not mid ass 70s country or boring ambient techno. i listened to curtis but never bothered with this one for some reason. its amazing how this is a soundtrack when this seems like a perfectly intact album on its own. nothing seems out of place and even the instrumental tracks are nice and fits into the album just fine. i love chicago soul and its primarily because of curtis. he just did soul so well that no one else can compare. every song here is so good to me except superfly and because of that the 36 minute runtime came by in a flash. i dont see this as a perfect album but its a great one for sure. 4 personal favs: little child runnin wild, freddies dead, no thing on me

Jul 21 2024

wow i did not expect such a switch up from side a to b. ive always heard of brian eno, but never actually took the time to listen to his solo albums. initially, i thought this sounded like talking heads on side a, but the switch to ambient pop on side b was such a refreshing surprise. yea i know it sounds like talking heads cause eno produced that album and this came before them but still. i thoroughly enjoyed both sides, but i still feel like i need a couple more listens to really appreciate it. perhaps its because this isnt the typical genre i listen to. 4 personal favs: no one receiving, by this river

Red Headed Stranger by Willie Nelson
Jul 22 2024

at first i thought oh boy another country album but hey its willie nelson. i listened to stardust prior to this and yea i get that its a poppier approach to willie’s usual music, but i still liked it. im not sure if the same can be said for this one though. it’s alright but i didnt really feel much from this one compared to stardust. it’s a really short album at 33 minutes so it kind of just went by quick, but side b was nice. i like the somber mood side b gave off. i felt pretty indifferent to side a though besides a couple tracks. willie has a nice voice and it really benefitted in side b. 3.5 but a 3 here personal favs: blue eyes crying in the rain, can i sleep in your arms

Wild Is The Wind by Nina Simone
Jul 23 2024

nina’s vocal range is crazy. the accompanying jazz is also really good and compliments her singing as well. her vocals so powerful in most of these tracks as well. i knew nothing about four women prior to listening, but the build up to my name is peaches part was crazy. i only listened to sinnerman from nina so i already had an idea of how her vocals are but this album really takes it to a different level. i do think both sides are nice but there were still some weaker tracks that i didnt like as much. regardless, its a nice jazz album and i enjoyed the listen. 4 personal favs: what more can i say, thats all i ask, wild is the wind

really boring alt rock (though tbf this is from the 80s). nothing really clicked with me if im being honest. i may just be the wrong audience for this because i can see how someone can enjoy this record but not me tho. i can say some songs are solid but rem just aint it for me. even those tracks are solid but also just ok. the rest of the tracks just dragged down the record even further for me. both side a and b were pretty equal to me as in both were just ok. overall its not bad but just boring and aint for me. 2.5 but 3 here personal favs: finest worksong

Tanto Tempo by Bebel Gilberto
Jul 25 2024

i didnt expect bossa nova to be in this list. i love bossa nova, but was never really able to get deep into the albums except for lamp ig. i think this is a nice modern take on bossa nova since it has hits of trip hop in it as well as well as more modern songwriting. the listen was pretty pleasant as well. if i were to nitpick, it seems consistency was lacking a little. 4 personal favs: tanto tempo, so nice

Buffalo Springfield Again by Buffalo Springfield

love expecting to fly (and mr soul to some extent), but the rest though 😟 it just got so boring despite this being only 33 minutes long. everything else was just so meh. no other standouts and the rest just blended together imo. 2.5 but leaning towards a 2 here personal favs: expecting to fly

Songs In The Key Of Life by Stevie Wonder
Jul 27 2024

initially while i was listening, i was worried that i wasnt going to like this especially since i finally have an excuse to listen to this. this one has been sitting in my listen list, but i never got to it because of its length. i wasnt really getting into it until i got to sir duke, then it picked up from there. unfortunately, i cant really say the same for the second half. isnt she lovely is great, but overall i felt like the first half was better than the second. as and another star were also great, but the hits in general on first half were better imo. despite this being almost 2 hours, i enjoyed the listen even after listening to it all in one go. 4 personal favs: i wish, pastime paradise, summer soft, another star

Vivid by Living Colour

cant even lie this sounds so dated. first track is ok/good to me, but the rest just feels so meh to listen to. could possibly be because of the 80s production that’s dragging it down; sounds like part of a soundtrack to a cheesy 80s movie or commerical music. after a little of side a, i just started skipping around and wanted to get this over with. overall, didnt enjoy it but not the worst. 2 personal favs: cult of personality

Elvis Presley by Elvis Presley
Jul 29 2024

sounds inoffensive, which isnt a bad thing. its also not a bad album to listen to since every songs are pretty short clocking at around 2-2:30 and totaling 28 minutes. probably groundbreaking at the time since elvis covered black artists in the 50s. most of the tracks are pretty fun and energetic, but not really my kind of thing. i favor side b over a though. 3 personal favs: trying to get to you, blue moon

i listened to this one prior to generation and actually the last the smiths album i needed to listen to except for the live album. initially, i wasnt really much of a fan of this and thought of this as another meat is murder type album where the songwriting is just lacking something for me. after listening to the tracks a couple more times, i feel like i warmed up to some of the tracks, especially last night i dreamt that somebody loved me. really hit when i felt down and became my favorite track on the album. 4 personal favs: girlfriend in a coma, last night i dreamt somebody loved me

Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix
Jul 31 2024

i listened to this before and i thought it was pretty nice but found the middle part to be a drag. the psychedelic effects were cool but got old for me. the highlights def make up for it though. 4 personal favs: crosstoen traffic, all along the watchtower, voodoo chile slight return

Amnesiac by Radiohead
Aug 01 2024

listened to this before. its a nice continuation after kid a. thom sounded so tired and sad oh wait thats most of radiohead. really though its a great album not not as great as kid a and thats ok. i found the middle of the second half a little drag to listen to but most tracks are great. 4 personal favs: pyramid song, knives out, life in a glasshouse

Let's Get It On by Marvin Gaye
Aug 02 2024

very solid soul album. because of how often i heard the title track, it really didnt hit as hard as it wouldve as a first listen. the songs on here were all pretty consistent and none really seemed that dull. 4 personal favs: please dont stay, if i should die tonight, come get to this

Fear Of Music by Talking Heads
Aug 03 2024

good album but talking heads has that funk that i cant really get over. its their signature sound but i cant fully get into it. though that applies to all of their music, i thought this album was fun and groovy despite that. the second half of side b was pretty weak but the rest was great. 4 personal favs: i zimbra, cities, life during wartime, heaven

Kid A by Radiohead
Aug 11 2024

listened before, but a great album of course. i heard radiohead played the electronics as amateurs, but even still, i really felt the misery in the sound. i enjoyed most tracks, and could do without some of the tracks. 4 personal favs: everything in its right place, how to disappear completely, optimistic, idioteque, morning bell, motion picture soundtrack

Aug 25 2024

heard according to the split sides and took breaks. while i loved side d, the rest were meh to be besides the standouts of course. this type of art punk isnt really my thing, so it seemed harder for me to get into it. the three sides overall really dragged my listening experience for this. 3 personal favs: theatre is the life of you, viet nam, shit from an old notebook, the glory of man, west germany

Talking Heads 77 by Talking Heads
Aug 26 2024

first talking heads album and you can hear that they were trying to find their general sound with the fillers in the album. the fillers were ok and the standouts were pretty good. great energy, but overall pretty forgettable for some of the tracks. 3 personal favs: uh oh love comes to town, the book i read, pulled up
