I expected this to be a great album. It didn't live up to my expectations at all. A few great tracks surrounded by unspectacular fillers. Blue Condition in particular is a yawn-fest.
Very smooth and cool, but don't ask me to pick any of the tracks out of a line up. None really stood out or stayed with me. Probably a testament to how unsophisticated I am or how much he was imitated by others who came after.
I'm not much of a fan of metal, and though I appreciate the diversion from full-on thrash metal with this album, it hasn't won me over.
This album is comfort food, where comfort food is Thai scallops in citrus ginger sauce prepared by a Michelin chef. A great album with that unique Knopfler sound that's still fresh and relevant 45+ years later. Incredible talent.
The most amazing feverdream soundtrack! 5/5
A jaunty little cocktail album for the cool kids. Very enjoyable with a martini.
If I'd heard this album before it was flogged to death all over the world I might have liked it more, except for couple of yawners. Adele is a big talent as a songwriter and singer and this is a powerful album.

meh
Everybody dance now!
Why had I never heard of Pere Ubu? There's some real standout tracks on this album! I loved Street Waves, and Life Stinks is a masterpiece piss take. But Real World was irritating and not for me.
A whole album of classic ZZ Top. They're good.
An unanticipated masterpiece. Just when my mind starts to wander, he brings me back. Loved the whole album, even the cover artwork is mesmerising.
Pretty bloody brilliant songs from start to finish. Great album, although I'm not a fan of his voice (not a deal breaker when the songwriting is so good).
I enjoyed the first half of this album but it's not a stand out at all and it's way way too long.
Dead leaves and the dirty ground is a bloody amazing opening for an album!
Yawn
I'll have 1 Jack White album with the lot please. Every song is so very different. I love the heavy contrast transition from Weep Themselves To Sleep to I'm Shakin'. I loved this album as a whole far more than it's individual tracks, which alone are good, but so much more as an album.
I don't get what's meant to be so great about this album. Yes, his voice is incredible but surely this isn't his greatest album? As albums go, I don't see why this one deserves a place in the 1001.
'The American Beatle', but with extra melody, amazing vocals, a horn section and a harmonica. The first couple of tracks are nice enough but there's so much more to come. The Moonbeam Song is a lullaby for grownups. Without You is a powerhouse vocal track with genuine lyrical depth. Coconut is a novelty ditty and cautionary tale about mixing your drinks. Let The Good Times Roll is a great cover of a popular 1950s R&B song. And then... Jump Into The Fire is 7 minutes of awesome sound! There's another track after that but who cares.
Fiona Apple is a great talent and I love her attitude. I enjoyed Shadowboxer and Criminal but the rest of the album was too samey.

My only memory of the Go Gos was Our Lips Are Sealed so I was expecting a light weight poppy album. This is a surprise! It's like 'the Ronettes sing the Ramones with 80s jangles' - girls with harmony singing punkish 80s tunes. Not at all what I expected. Skidmarks on My Heart is gold. Worth a few listens, although overall I found the very 80sness of the sound is hard to get past to really enjoy it fully.
Björk's talent is out of this world. This is an album of the unexpected and the experimental, with a dance beat. I especially love the completely bonkers experience of There's More To Life Than This (live at the Milkbar toilets), but really the whole album is a unique experience and definitely worthy of being in the 1001.
A great album made weary by overplaying, but nevertheless it desrves it's spot in the 1001
Ray Davies is a master of lyrical imagery and storytelling. I love the Kinks and I really enjoyed this album; it draws you in, getting better and better as it unfolds. House In The Country; Holiday In Waikiki; Fancy; Little Miss Queen of Darkness; and of course Sunny Afternoon.
Ey oh, let's go! These geezers never get old.
