Microshift by Hookworms

I’ve never heard of this band. Upon reading its background and genre, it’s a) surprising I hadn’t heard of them and b) surprising that I did like the album more. This is theoretically my type of music. But it was very much just “ok.” Maybe if I listened more I’d like it better, so I’m not giving it a 2.

Hot Shots II by The Beta Band
Nov 03 2025

I liked it. It wasn’t AMAZING but I did like it. Will listen to it again today. Got a little bit of Hot Chip vibes.

Rust Never Sleeps by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Nov 04 2025

It was ok. Of course the hit is a classic. Also liked the Llama one, Pocahontas, and Welfare Moms a distant third.

Grace by Jeff Buckley
Nov 05 2025
Nov 06 2025

I like the Prophet Song. I like the Lazing Sunday song. The Good Company song felt very Beatles to me. Appreciate the use of harp and ukulele and just all the great guitar riffs. And of course Bohemian Rhapsody is truly a classic, beyond iconic song. But I don’t think I can give the album a 5 just because of that. It’s really good. But I don’t think it’s a 5 for me.

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Nov 07 2025

Giving this a 2 doesn’t really feel 4. It’s hardly more than a 3 for me though. Cinnamon Girl Is pretty good. Down By The River just reeks of misogyny too much. I kind of liked the Requiem song.

Nov 10 2025

Look - to give this album 2 stars seems harsh. But the songs all sounded the same. Nothing was that great/ the Blue Monday one was best. Perhaps the lyrics are poignant but I don’t really pay attention. Sorry, Curtis.

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Nov 11 2025

I was thrilled to see this. Love this album and have not listened to in years. Chicago is a masterpiece. I’d say the album is more of a 4.5 to 4.75 lol. But have to round up and I believe it deserves 5 stars all the way through! John Wayne Gacy, Jr hit me differently this time bc I now know who he is.

Paris 1919 by John Cale
Nov 12 2025

I really didn’t like this. Giving it a 1 feels extreme bc I sense the man has some talent. But this wasn’t for me. I feel like I want to give it a one, but I will give it some credit. As one review said. Definitely some goofy English stuff lol.

Melodrama by Lorde
Nov 13 2025

This album is a solid 4 maybe 4.25, but not a 5 star for me. I like it, solid pop album. Jack A knows what he’s doing. I’m surprised to see it was on Rolling Stone’s list of 500 greatest albums ever. I didn’t think it was *that* great. Perhaps it has to grow on me with listening a few more times. Either way; solid, good bops!

En-Tact by The Shamen
Nov 14 2025

Tbh I liked this for the most part. Giving it three stars. Considered two but that’s not fair considering I gave several albums a 3 and I probably enjoyed them less. I like electronic music so it was mostly fine for me.

This Year's Model by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Nov 17 2025

I want to give this album a 4 mostly for Pump it Up but it’s not a 4 for me. Not after 1-2 listens. Not a huge Elvis Costello appreciator, but this album helped. Radio, Radio is good too. But just mid overall for me.

Who's Next by The Who
Nov 18 2025

I’m going to give this a 4. I’m shocked tbh. Any time I hear the Who on the radio I usually kind of roll my eyes and change it. I don’t know why. Just was never a huge fan. But they are classic for a reason. The drums are kicking on this album. There are quite a few hits, that actually are good, I just have been overexposed to them. I actually did mostly like it.

Debut by Björk
Nov 19 2025

This one surprised me and then I saw everyone else’s ratings. First of all, the harp, the orchestra…. It’s so 90s too. So happy to have discovered this one!

Tea for the Tillerman by Cat Stevens
Nov 20 2025

This was a huge, pleasant surprise. In my mind I scoff at Cat Stevens, I don’t really know why. Just do. But I liked this!

This Is Fats Domino by Fats Domino
Nov 21 2025

I enjoyed this for the history and culture around it. Fun little ditties. Nothing that really really caught and grabbed me but I felt like it still deserved a 4.

From Elvis In Memphis by Elvis Presley
Nov 24 2025

When I think of Elvis I guess I mostly think of the sound of his earlier music. Upon listening and of course seeing the release year I realized this was a bit later on in his career. It definitely has a more produced sound, which at times is good. Some of the songs are pretty sappy but also touching, like the Daddy Don’t Cry one and the one about Mama’s roses. Nothing amazing about this but certainly not bad, I generally enjoyed it.

On The Beach by Neil Young
Nov 25 2025

This was very much just fine. Feels better than a 2. I did like the use of strings in ambulance song and the banjo and vibe of Turnstile song. This is my third Neil Young in three weeks. He’s fine but I don’t see what’s so great.

Roger the Engineer by The Yardbirds
Nov 26 2025

This was Ok. Some of the tunes were groovy, such a cool 60s sound. But not a 4 for me.

Life's Too Good by The Sugarcubes
Nov 27 2025

I struggle between giving this a 2 or 3. Feels like I give everything a 3. I appreciated the 90s/80s sound and the historical significance of Bjork.

Damaged by Black Flag
Nov 28 2025

This is absolutely not my type of music. I think I have to give it a 1. I did like the TV watching track.

Paul's Boutique by Beastie Boys
Dec 01 2025

This was a shocker. Granted, when I read it was the Sgt Peppers of hip hop, that probably already biased me more positively. But when this album came up I was immediately disappointed. I historically don’t like the Beastie Boys. This album surprised me, in a good way. I still Probably won’t seek out listening to the Beastie Boys per se, but I did enjoy this and might even listen again!

Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division
Dec 02 2025

This was better than I anticipated but just ok.

Are You Experienced by Jimi Hendrix
Dec 03 2025

This album is pretty fire. I didn’t love every track but there’s so many true bangers on it, I had to give it a 5.

Duck Rock by Malcolm McLaren
Dec 11 2025

Just OK.

Deja Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
Dec 15 2025

This album is a classic, amazing.

Let's Stay Together by Al Green
Dec 16 2025

This is good. A classic. Enjoyable all The way through.

You Are The Quarry by Morrissey
Dec 17 2025

I had no idea there was so much Morrissey hate. The comments are hilarious. He was pretty smarmy and self righteous but I kind of thought it was funny. I enjoyed this album more than I thought I would.

Teen Dream by Beach House
Mar 31 2026

I can’t believe this but I’m giving it a 2. Not that great. Don’t understand the hype. But it’s the sort of thing I theoretically would like. But I really didn’t enjoy this much at all. Boring.

Tuesday Night Music Club by Sheryl Crow
Apr 01 2026

I wanted to give us a five, but it wasn’t quite there for me. However, I did really enjoy it. I wasn’t sure about “Run, Baby, Run” as an openers I listened to it again and it grew on me. When I heard “The Na-Na Song” it unlocked a deep memory of me listening to this on cassette or CD, I cannot remember. But I like that song a lot and I did as a younger person. I had completely forgotten about it. I appreciate what she tried to do with that jazz influenced number “We Do What We Can” at the end. Solid 4, maybe almost 4.5 for me.

Real Life by Magazine
Apr 02 2026

I had never heard of this band. I did enjoy the album and I wasn’t sure I would. Not sure how I feel about “post punk,” but I enjoyed it and felt the New Wave vibe. I’m glad to have been exposed.

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Apr 06 2026

I really liked this! I thought it was very good.

Chirping Crickets by Buddy Holly & The Crickets
Apr 08 2026

This is just not really my kind of music lol but I guess it was fine?

Boston by Boston
Apr 09 2026

I had this album in high school. My dad laughed at me. It’s cheesy, classic rock but catchy enough. No more than a 3.

Locust Abortion Technician by Butthole Surfers
Apr 13 2026

I like the grunge sound. Annoying at times but enough redeeming qualities I gave it a 3.

Microshift by Hookworms
Apr 15 2026

I’ve never heard of this band. Upon reading its background and genre, it’s a) surprising I hadn’t heard of them and b) surprising that I did like the album more. This is theoretically my type of music. But it was very much just “ok.” Maybe if I listened more I’d like it better, so I’m not giving it a 2.

Maxinquaye by Tricky
Apr 16 2026

I liked this! Definitely up my alley. Pleasant surprise bc I had no idea who Tricky was.

Homework by Daft Punk
Apr 17 2026

Icons! Yeah some of it later in the record is a bit grating but I don’t care. 4 stars!

Stand! by Sly & The Family Stone
Apr 21 2026

This was so good! So happy to come across it. Some excellent funky tunes, loved it.

Movies by Holger Czukay
Apr 22 2026

This was … different. I liked the Persian track. I think I can only give it a 2. I appreciate how it influenced some artists but I didn’t love it.

High Violet by The National
Apr 23 2026

I don’t know why but I’m just not into this band that much, from the little bit I have heard. It feels like something I should be.
