Skylarking by XTC
Nov 28 2025

It feels like a update on the Beatles later sound: wonderfully Beatle-esque pop songwriting

The Dreaming by Kate Bush
Nov 29 2025

"I want this man to go away now." Same, girl, same

Paris 1919 by John Cale
Nov 29 2025

Too old, white, male

Heroes by David Bowie
Dec 02 2025
California by American Music Club
Dec 03 2025

Nirvana and the Wallflowers had a baby and it's this band.

Alien Lanes by Guided By Voices
Dec 04 2025

I'm fond of indie rock, but none of the songs stuck with me. I did enjoy the 90s nostalgia.

Tusk by Fleetwood Mac
Dec 05 2025
Heroes to Zeros by The Beta Band
Dec 06 2025

A gateway to the 2000s post-punk revival.

OK by Talvin Singh
Dec 07 2025

I enjoyed the unique sounds created by mixing Eastern and Western music theory. This album is proof that diversity can be a powerful Muse for originality and ingenuity.

The La's by The La's
Dec 08 2025

I was listening to music as a teen in the 90s, and I had no idea how influential the La's were on many of the bands that formed my musical tastes.

Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
Dec 09 2025

Nope, not for me, but I did like learning about this pioneer in Expermenatal Rock.

Killing Joke by Killing Joke
Dec 11 2025

You can definitely hear the foundations of industrial rock and heavy metal.

Henry's Dream by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Dec 12 2025

Storytelling with interconnected tracks in folk rock. Poetic and unique at times, and I enjoyed Straight to You and Brother, My Cup Is Empty but didn't care for the rest.

Punishing Kiss by Ute Lemper
Dec 13 2025

Fresh perspective. I enjoyed a few covers more than the originals.

The Man Who by Travis
Dec 19 2025

Tracks are an examination of melancholic disillusionment, the feeling is relatable, but the album is otherwise uninteresting.

Dec 20 2025

The band is important because Hüsker Dü played a vital role in the sound of 90s indie and alternative rock. This album isn't the best example of Hüsker Dü's legacy.

Darklands by The Jesus And Mary Chain
Dec 21 2025

This album is notable for its impact on the noise pop and shoegaze subgenres. After listening I had to play Only Happy When It Rains by Garbage

Dec 28 2025

I loved the Fatboy Slim/Norman Cook remix of Brimful of Asha, and I was delighted to listen to the Cornershop original. I just added a new band to my best-of-the-90s list. I agree that "When I Was Born For The 7th Time" is one of the greatest British albums, and anyone who wants to listen to exceptional indie rock needs to tune in.

Jan 02 2026

Influential in the synth-pop revival, The Bones of What You Believe by CHVRCH☰S, masterfully blends 80s synth-pop with 10' electronic dance beats. I really enjoyed Lauren Mayberry's voice and appreciated the memorable lyrics. I added "We Sink" to my workout playlist.

Kala by M.I.A.
Jan 15 2026

I read the lyrics instead of just dancing to the beat. MIA has a lot to say about the state of the world for people of color. The message is just as important as the inspired music.

Vanishing Point by Primal Scream
Jan 20 2026

Excellent background music. Surprised this album isn't a film score.

The Contino Sessions by Death In Vegas
Jan 21 2026

A good introduction to the neo-psychedelia genre.

Trio by Dolly Parton
Jan 24 2026
Gorillaz by Gorillaz
Jan 25 2026

Interesting mix of musical styles. This album is the first time I heard trip hop and dub. My college radio station played "Clint Eastwood" so many times it became part of my freshman soundtrack, it was nice hearing it again.

Music Has The Right To Children by Boards of Canada
Jan 27 2026

This album marks a turning point in electronic music and if you love the genre you'll love this.

Inspiration Information by Shuggie Otis
Jan 30 2026

Funk, soul, jazz, rhythm and blues with organs and synthesizers.

Caetano Veloso by Caetano Veloso
Jan 31 2026

Fun Latin beats! Loved discovering Tropicália.

Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth
Feb 02 2026

Daydream Nation is a foundational work of the 1990s grunge and alternative rock era. The band's blend of noise and melody from their late 80s and early 90s experimental rock and punk sounds opened the doors to the underground and underappreciated chromaticism for the Indie mainstream, paving the way for bands like Nirvana, Pavement, My Bloody Valentine, Hole, Cat Power, and Dinosaur Jr.

Marquee Moon by Television
Feb 04 2026

You can hear the evolutionary link form between punk and alternative rock.

Elvis Is Back by Elvis Presley
Feb 07 2026

Elvis is a white face on Black music. I'd prefer an album of the original songs with the original Black musicians. "White cover versions of hits by black musicians ... often outsold the originals; it seems that many Americans wanted black music without the black people in it" (Robert Walser (1998) "The rock and roll era", in The Cambridge History of American Music, Cambridge University Press, p. 358).

Penance Soiree by The Icarus Line
Feb 08 2026

Post-hardcore punk amplified by metal noise, distorted guitar, and powerful vocals.

Bad by Michael Jackson
