Angels is the hit. Clean is hilarious. Clean like Charlie Sheen? Even in 1997 that had connotation to it. Everything else is mid to bad.
The rhythms. The mixing. The messages. One of his many 10/10s. Something about the sounds on “u” are like cleaning out your ears. So satisfying.
So in Love. When Seasons Change. Blue People Monday. All solid tracks. Nothing really jumped out at me.
Join the Boys. Down to Zero. Love and Affection. Another one that was fairly unmemorable.
Took multiple listens, but warmed up to the funky beats. Shoutout White Lotus with Watermelon Man.
4 minute songs of the same hook over and over for the entire album was not for me. I understand Moby’s influence, but just couldn’t get into this one.
They sure know how to sing a song about sadness/happiness/power of love. Whether that’s chasing, waiting for, or losing it.
Does Prince like sex? I can’t quite tell.
I think if I sat with them and this album a bit more then it would warm up to me. However, initial reactions are that it’s just fine.
Context matters in all things, especially this. Knowing this is Leonard Cohen’s deathbed album provides so much more nuance and context to his lyrics and what he sings about.
Not a lot of harmonies and folk rock is in my wheelhouse. It was alright. Enjoy a handful of the songs.
How can you hate Janice Joplin?
Not my favorite of their discography, but it’s hard not to appreciate their sound.
This is 50s sad boi music. Hard not to listen to Sinatra and hear Christmas/wintery vibes music.
While I love a jazzy instrumental, this one did not connect. Still would’ve enjoyed them live.
There are some really beautiful pieces in here, but overall a lot of bad music. I love the message, but the music was generally not for me.
I used to hear this album a lot as a kid. Re-listening to it. It’s amazing how much of the heavy lifting break on through and light my fire does.
Nick Cave said he wanted the album to not sound like a Little River Band album and instead “sound like trash”. I can’t say that this doesn’t sound like trash.

An iconic album.
Loved this album when it was first released. The mood and beats can get a bit repetitive, but when it’s the tone you enjoy it doesn’t matter. First half of the album is easy 5/5.
I’m not normally into emo-type music. However, (most of) this album rocks.
