Think this is too mainstream pop rock for me. The sound is not for me, decent and compelling lyricism from time to time (Downbound Train), but most doesn't click with me. Maybe due to the sound. Maybe I'm not white enough, or listened to too many derivatives of rock to experience this as a new, surprising genre.
Rating at the time I'm listening to "I'm Goin' Down": 2.5-3.0 / 5
Final rating: 2.5/5
Lovely instrumentation, don't know if I can say the same about the vocals. Cool noise rock elements + influence are there. Mixing is lowk awful but that's not really their fault
3/5
OH MY LORDY LORD LORD BRO ANOTHER BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN ALBUM
only marginally better than born in the usa and i only feel like its bc this time i was prepared for what i was getting into
if i wanted to a raspy voice complain abt losing his wife and car i would tune into a conservative podcast instead
badlands was a promising start, darkness on the edge of town was also nice
does anyone under the age of 40 actually enjoy bruce springsteen
2.5/5
gorgeous gorgeous lyricism and instrumentals
highlights: tiny dancer, madman across the water, indian sunset
4/5
edit: rerated to a 3.75
THE GOATS
banger beats as always
while not as flawless top to bottom as following albums low-end theory or midnight mauraders (feels like latter half runs slightly out of steam), still incredible production and flows
4/5
something weirdly experimental here but doesn't feel altogether cohesive
definitely a work i can admire, but not completely enjoy
maybe have to relisten down the line for smth new to hit me
notable: save the life of my child, america
3/5
one of the most important albums in the salsa genre, must listen
also just incredible instrumentation and writing in general
highlights: plástico, pedro navaja
4/5
some CRAZY SHIT started to happen at silver rocket and i loved it
a classic that i never took the chance to listen to until now
teen age riot is a banger but my feelings on slacker rock r neutral
noise rock at one of its most influential
favs: silver rocket, a) the wonder
4/5
incohesive and messy, experimental to an almost obnoxious degree i fear
1.5-2/5
really solid classic folk
second half of when i get to the border has some incredible instrumentation
the transitions between richard and linda thompson can feel a little jarring sometimes, but they both have lovely voices, linda especially
the second half felt a little too irish-jiggy to me, but i could see the first half growing on me a lot
highlights: when i get to the border, withered and died, i want to see the bright lights tonight
3.5/5
a more interesting/experimental sound than daydream nation, but not as good or cohesive
love the lean into embracing noise rock
highlights: 100%, purr
rating: 3/5
one of the greatest hip-hop debuts of all time and his best album there i said it
yeah i miss the old kanye
sometimes the album might feel slightly corny (new workout plan) but the music never loses its personality or impactful commentary
highlights: we don't care, all falls down, i'll fly away, spaceship, jesus walks, never let me down, through the wire
4.5/5
some really cool songwriting and instrumental experimentation, but overall most tracks are okay, second half falls off quite quickly imo
highlights: american gothic, ballad of the ship of state
3.5/5
a classic but grunge is unf not my thing, may need another listen
highlights: geek usa
rating: 3/5
the alt pop bible but not the best there is i fear
highlights: liability, hard feelings/loveless, supercut
3.75/5
has a nice voice but wasn't super my style
3.5/5

such striking instrumentals
highlights: cinnamon girl, round & round, down by the river
