The Number Of The Beast by Iron Maiden
Mar 26 2026

Solid minor 3. Loved the soft words in my ears at the start of some songs “the number of the beast 6 6 6 etc.” Was he the devil or some bible bro? Hope it is the former. Album felt like I was riding out of hell on a fiery steed after vanquishing my foes. In reality I was just on the bus to work. High scoring for hype value I’m fucking fired up for a 3 hour data privacy course, what a waste. Personally, not heavy enough for the metal genre but the second halves of some songs got heavy so that was neat. This left me hoping songs were like that the whole way through. Hmph. Lead vocalist would fit right in with the BeeGees. (Hoping for a beegees album during this challenge). I digress, Run to the hills was a stand out. And had meme able potential think “always watch out” Not an album I’d jerk to - as someone else left a review on. It’s not you (iron maiden) it’s me. N.b think I fucked my scoring up because if this is a 3. CCR should be a 4. Consider CCR a high 3.

Blackstar by David Bowie
Mar 27 2026

I liked <insert star symbol> only. I think the track is audibly called “black star” but on Spotify the default colour is white so thought that was funny. Dave would’ve hated that. Girl loves me should have been called “where the fuck did Monday gooo, where the fuck did Monday gooo, where the fuck did Monday gooo, where the fuck did Monday gooo” a brutal listen. All time stinker of an album. Thought since there was only 7 songs I could at least get through it quickly but unfortunately with a 41 minute run time this was not the case. Pulled duck teriyaki rice bowl for dinner though, so things are looking up.

After The Gold Rush by Neil Young
Mar 30 2026

Lovely little album. Liked the first half more than the second maybe I’m just depressed as the more jolly it got the least I enjoyed it. High 2. Just didn’t fully tickle my pickle. Fun fact I’ve seen Neil young live and he tore it up wish I listened to this album prior.

This Year's Model by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Mar 31 2026

Uninspiring album. Sounds like Ryan gosling doing karaoke. Funky synth keys(?) which were neat but not enough for me to enjoy the album.

Street Life by The Crusaders
Apr 01 2026

Too many “street life’s” for my liking. Carnival of the night is a sexy little number with that bass. Electric guitar and keys(?) going (deez) nuts too. Dare I say this is/was inspired the doors or vice versa? High 2

Clandestino by Manu Chao
Apr 02 2026

3 straight down the middle son Good vibes good times. Bongo bong - generational track and my vote for “song of the challenge so far” Don’t say it don’t, say it - did this influence/influenced gorillaz? The transition from this English track then to the French continuation/remix after was seamless and very enjoyable. Was very pleased by the language weaving couldn’t recognise any more. Unfortunately the start was the albums peak (went back and listened to it twice). I felt I may have scored higher with all the outro parts/intervals etc with the Spanish dude on the phone so I could catch the themes. Manu chao has revived us from hell all hail manu chao the king of bongo. That was a tough two day stretch. Enjoyed dipping into a different genre I’m normally indifferent to. On a flight to Ireland had nothing better to do than provide a long winded review. Don’t know if I’ll have time to listen to Thurs/fri unless I get the AUX cord for the drives. No The Doors.exe detected.

The Score by Fugees
Apr 06 2026

Low 5. Incredible album carried by ms Lauryn hill. Featuring the greatest cover ever (killing me softly” although, I can’t stand the dudes at the end of each song rambling hood shit. Especially at the end of such a beautiful song like KMS. Like shut the fuck up and let her cook. Looking forward to the miseducation of Lauryn Hill so I don’t have to listen to those goobers. Apologies to my readers for the delayed reviews.

Bubble And Scrape by Sebadoh
Apr 10 2026

It was okay. I liked tracks from their later albums. Where the fuck do they get these albums from and what made them go oh yeah people need to listen to this before they die. Did they just go with 1001 albums and think oh shit now we have to actually list 1001. Hopefully that’s the only 2 Lo fi rock albums. Tough few days but we persist.

Parachutes by Coldplay
Apr 13 2026

Low 5. Didn’t realise how much I liked sad boy Coldplay or more so how much I hate modern day happy cult leader chris Martin. If he could go back to being sad that would be great
