Not thier best but still a really solid album. Introduced Metallica and metal to the general audiences in the 90s. Some songs are a bit sellouty but most are really good.
Classic album. Similar to Metallica's Metallica where thier best work is past but still really good. At this point in the bands history Eddie Van Halen started moving the band to more synth based compositions in the 80s which I like less than thier first album but the songwriting is still really good.
Solid songs on here. Grunge with a very heavy punk influence to them. Cant really listen to teen spirit anymore cuz ive heard it so many times but that doesn't stop me wanting to listen to this album again. While Kurt wasnt the most technical of players he was a top tier songwriter and player.
After the first song I though id be bored listening to this album but I was proven wrong. I quite enjoyed this. The lead guitar and bass work is by far the highlight for me (I am a guitar player so I will be biased) especially in the last song, the 2 longer ones, and Lunchmeataphobia. It is very 70s in a good way, very much Hendrix inspired. I'd never heard of this before but I am pleasantly surprised.
My first 5. Hendrix is up there for best guitarist even and this album has some of the best songs ever written. He and this album literally changed all music forever. What he did on the guitar had NEVER been done before. He helped invent modern music. This cannot be any less than a 5, not just on its historical impact but also on the quality of the music. I'm never not interested or excited listening to him play guitar.
Interesting one today. Wishing there was a 2.5 but ill give it a 3. Something about my fucked up brain is that I struggle to pick up words most of the time. So unless im really straining ill likely miss alot of the words in songs. This means that vocal centric music doesn't really work for me, but also most of the time the genre of that music isn't really my thing. This album is both of those things. What I can really appreciate is the quality of the vocals, the melodic arrangement, the harmonies, e. t.c. This album has that, even if the instrumentation (the most important part of any song for me) is fairly boring. I didnt mind listening to it, it just bored me and didnt grab me for the reasons stated. Don't actively dislike it, just not for me. Time of the Season was good.
I think this is another 2.5 for me but the struggle is whether i give it a 2 or 3. I think a high 2. It didnt grab me in the slightest. Pretty boring. There are only 3 songs i think i actively enjoyed listening to, The Stars (Are Out Tonight), Love is Lost, and (You Will) Set The Word On Fire. The rest were not great. Tbe first one and If You Can See Me were shite.
Bizzare album - 2.5. White Stipes most well know songs are all punky but most of this album was not that. Ive always liked Blue Orchid. Also quite liked Instinct Blues and Red Rain. The rest not so much. This is another 2.5 but I think I'll give it a 3 cuz id much rather re-listen to this than that Bowie album.
Genuinly a realy nice album. George is a master at the slide guitar creating some beautiful melodies which are the highlight of the album for me. I liked Behind That Locked Door, Let it Down, Art of Dying, and the last 5 or so really bluesy songs. When listening I couldn't help but hear snippets that sound like Pink Floyd and Fleetwood Mac songs. I have to assume this album had some influence over those bands which I really like. This album is too long but the songs themselves make up for it.
Extremely influential to punk and alternative music, this album feels like listening to a time capsule of early 70s music in a good way. I get heavy Rolling Stones vibes from listening to this album. Enjoyed listening.
Didn't really like this. It isn't my vibe at all. If this review was objective id mabye give it a 3 cuz I can tell its not bad but for me it's a 2. I just didnt feel a thing while listening.
Not sure if I enjoyed this one all too much. I think its another 2.5. I can hear how influential this will have been, and I recognise its pretty good, just not my thing tbh. I did like the first song but this album didnt really grab me at all.
Really liked this one. Love the vibes and the tone. Very melancholic but in a good way. Some music doesn't make me feel anything but this does. My favourites were Today, Soma, Geek U.S.A., and Mayonnaise. If I could I'd give this a 4.5. I didnt blown me away or affect me enough to be a 5 however. Out of the albums I haven't already listened to this has been my favourite so far. This gets a high 4.
Did not enjoy. Every song was exactly the same I could barely finish this out of bordeom. I was gonna give it a 1 but then I realised id still rather listen to this than the white stripes album so it gets a 2.
Not too bad. Not my kind of jazz tbh I prefer the big band stuff or jazz fusion (still kinda jazz) but I didnt mind listening. My favourite was Resolution by far, and I also liked Psalm a bit. Not sure I 100% vibes with the other ones. While I appreciate it my problem is that there is a slight lack of a tune or musical direction at points, which is just intrinsic to the type of jazz. Doesn't stop Coltrane being one of the best sax players and musicians ever.
Strange one. If I were to sit and listen to this album and pay full attention to it as a piece of music and do nothing else I'd be very bored I think. I listened to this while studying so it wasnt too bad and I didn't really get too bored. I'm judging based on the music itself and the album in isolation so it gets a 2. As background noise it would get a 3.
This feels ahead of it's time given when it was released. Can hear the next 20 years of indie/pop music from this album. I quite liked There Goes The Fear, N.Y., Satellites, Caught by the River. Pounding gave Coldplay vibes. Overall I enjoyed listening to this album more than I thought I would. Not enough to listen again however.
This is a 3.5 for me. I think ill begrudgingly give it a 4 cuz I did enjoy listening and its better than a 3. Classic rock and roll tbh. I can hear the beginnings of power metal bands like Iron Maiden in this album with the vocals. It just felt as if there was a flavour missing. Like if you made food and you knew there was a seasoning you needed but couldnt figure out what the missing flavour was.
AMAZING. One of the bands and albums that got me into guitar into the first place. Very foundation album not just for me but metal music as a whole. The last run of 5 songs are really strong with for me The Number of the Beast being my favourite. Every member of the band is just incredible with no weak members. The bass and drums are amazing, the dual lead guitars give Maiden thier distinctive sound, and this is the first album with singer Brice Dickinson who is amazing too. I cannot give this anything but a 5.
Thoroughly bored while listening. All this album seems to be is this nasaly man twittering and whining over literally the same chord progression for 5 minutes at a time. The premises for this albums seems to be if you took Johnny Cash and him whiney, shit, and boring. And I'm also indifferent to his music at the best of times too. At one point the album was really quiet and I couldnt make out the words so I turned it up then 2 minutes later I got my ears BLASTED by a screeching harmonica at ear-splitting volume droning the same note for 20 seconds. Id honestly rather go listen to the White Stripes album again that this. Big fat 1.
It's a 3 today. I was bored listening which is a huge bonus. Id say I enjoyed listening to half of the album. I have no clue what genre any of it was it was all over the place. there were songs where I hated the verse and loved the chorus because they seemed like different genres. I wouldn't listen again, but it wasnt shit.
Solid album. I liked listening to pretty much all of it. It's not 100% my kinda thing but its close enough. Just some classic/glam rock. Nothing blew me away but it was good enough to get a 4.
This didnt do too much for me. Ik its a classic and had a massive influence it just didn't tickle me. It felt a bit samey at times and there was a massive reuse in melody throughout the album. No songs really grabbed me. This gets a 3 just cuz ik its got and was very influential, just not for me, but I didnt hate listening to it.
Enjoyed alot more than I thought I would. Never got bored and enjoyed listening to every song. Johnny Cash has a certain charm that is hard to not like. While the music is simple it has an effect. Imagine that shitty Bob Dylan album and u make it more country and good. Not my kinda think enough to get a 5 but still very good.
Not sure about this one. I liked the grooves and the rythem. I couldnt really make out much of the lyrics and if I did im not sure id like them. Listening to the first half was fun cuz of the grooves but after that it got a bit boring and samey. I think mabye a 2.5 which im gonna round down to 2 due to this being not at all my kind of music.
Amazing. I've always liked Neil Young but never listened to this album. Easy 5. I love the style of music. It's blues music but with folky elements. The slide guitar is really nice and the harmonica isn't ear splitting like some other albums.... looking at you Bob. The vocal harmonies are fucking amazing, especially in New Mama. Going from unison harmonies into a major resolve was pleasurable to my ears. My favourite song was Albuquerque. It had all the elements of the album that were good, the blues, good vocals, slide guitar, and the harmonica. Half this album went into my playlist giving this a 5.
Wasn't the keenest on this one. I usually dont mind 70s prog but I didnt vibe too much with this one. I'm a big fan of King Crimson but not so much this. I think its cuz this is alot less guitar driven (there is none). I just ended up a little bored and felt the songs were a little meandery. Wouldn't listen again but I didnt think it was shit.
This album did not grab me. It's 100% a vocal driven album, which will be the reason I wasnt fond of it. Don't get me wrong the vocals were good, I mean its The Beach Boys, and the harmonies were great, its just outside of the there was not really anything to interest me. I felt bored after 1 or 2 songs and couldnt differentiate any of the songs id listened to when the album had finished. Not for me at all.
Crazy how influential Yes were. Everything from prog rock to heavy metal, and therefore most modern music, were heavily influenced by them, especially the guitar and bass work. I really enjoyed this one. I especially liked Starship Trooper (the longer one). I thought the build up in that was great. All round pretty good playing, just missing out on a 5 as I wasnt wowed as much as I have been before by this.
Classic album. Doesn't mean I loved it tho. I get the same feeling listening to this that I do listening to most 60s rock. It usually doesn't do too much for me or leaves me bored. The Rolling Stones would be about the only ones who generally dont bore me. The Ox, and My Generation stood out for me on this album, but the rest didn't. Its a 2.5 rounded up to 3 for Keith Moons amazing drumming.
Picture this. I've been playing guitar for a year or two, only listening to acdc and rock music. We move house and uncover my dad's old sound system with a pile of cds. I get the system set up, which is massive btw, and play the last cd that had been listened to. This album stats blasting starting with the lead guitar. Amazing. This album has everything I like about 80s glam rock/metal, which I like alot. The genre is filled with amazing and fun guitar playing, and this is no exception. Through discovering this album I was lead down a path that took me to some of the bands that I love and have heavily influenced my guitar playing and what music I like. This album and others like it also give me nostalgia for all the good parts of high during that time too, especially the music related parts which was most of my life back then. Overall, I like it.
Overall kinda boring and uninspiring. Didn't like the whiney vocals. Most of the time the instrumentation was fairly boring and not doing anything crazy. Some good ones were Dont Trust the Stars and How Could I Be Wrong. That one was at least interesting to listen to. The fact that there was at least a song and some musical movement beneath the lyrics earns this a 2.
A real masterclass in song writing. One of the albums I used to study alot with my guitar teacher. Given the fact its piano, and still worth looking at while learning guitar is really something. That first run of 4 songs is really something else. The back half of the album isn't as strong except Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting), which is one of the best songs on the album and extrememly fun to play. My personal favourite is Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding. Banger of a song. Add on the 3 songs after that, and Saturday Night's Alright, and you get my top 5 from this album. I've Seen That Movie Too was great aswell. Bonus points for the guitarist being from Edinburgh. Another fun fact is that the film composer James Newton Howard was in Elton John's band in the late 70s. It's a real shame Eltons other music is nowhere near as good as this album.
Really quite surprised how much i liked this one. Wasn't expecting it tbh. Pretty good instrumentation and vocal melodies. Reminds me alot of John Mayers more mellow stuff. Wasn't blown away but enjoyed listening.
WTF was that. Was some guy screeching about his problems over a basic beat on repeat for 2 mins, times by 10. Strange and not in a good way. Thank god the songs were really short
