The singles are of course tried and true classics. In terms of album-only cuts, its a mixed bag, as some songs didn't stick out to me. Overall, not a bad time/first album, though i'd cut it down a bit as it felt like a bit of a drag at points.
Highlights-The singles, Holier Than Thou, Don't Tread On Me(guilty pleasure), and Through The Never.
It's catchy, but I don't really see myself coming back to it much.
First 2xLP of the project! I terms of which disc is better, it's easily disc 1, as disc 2 kinda didn't have a lot that jumped out at me, at least from what I've heard so far. Not bad, but could've been cut down into a strong 1xLP.
Highlights-Rocks Off, Rip This Joint, Shake Your Hips, Tumbling Dice, Sweet Virginia, Torn and Frayed, Let It Loose, and Stop Breaking Down.
It starts real strong, but then peters out and begins to blend together. Not a bad blend though, and I could see this one growing on me.
Highlights-Zebra, Silver Soul, and Lover of Mine.
Enjoyed this way more than I thought I would, since my last experiences with this band were lukewarm. It's not the greatest thing in the world, but definitely isn't one to avoid. Only thing preventing it from being a 4 or higher is that some songs didn't hit as hard as others.
Highlights-Rikki, East St. Louis, Through With Buzz, With A Gun, and Charlie Freak.
Best R E.M. album I've heard so far, real good energy throughout. Only issue is the production, but it didn't bother me much.
Highlights-Pop Song 89, Get Up, Stand, Turn You Inside-Out, and Hairshirt.
I dunno man, this just felt way too meatheaded and cheesy. By the time Hagar mentions bringing his "pencil" on Hot For Teacher, I just mentally nope out for the rest of the album. I can't say it doesn't deserve its placement in the book, as this was a juggernaut and probably inspired a lot of music like it, though I wouldn't really consider that a good thing.
Highlights-Jump, Panama, Drop Dead Legs, and I'll Wait.
Also the title track reminded me of Live and Learn by Crush 40, not a bad thing, just thought I'd point it out.
It was fine, I'm not the biggest country fan, especially not this more clean kind, so it didn't do much for me. Good voice tho.
Second time listening to a Joni Mitchell album. Was enjoyable, great lyricist and vocalist
Highlights-Coyote, Amelia, Furry Sings The Blues, A Strange Boy, Hejira, ans Song For Sharron.
Was a fun time, lot's of danceable stuff on here. Even the long songs weren't drags, so overall pretty good.
Highlights-Little Red Corvette, Delirious, D.M.S.R., Automatic, and All the Critics Love U in New York.
Some solid post-punk, stayed mostly interesting from song to song. Glad to have found out about these guys.
Highlights-Songs About Chocolate and Girls, There Goes Norman, Hypnotised, Under the Boardwalk, The Way Girls Talk, Wednesday Week, Nine Times out of Ten, and Girls That Don't Talk
Joplin's vocals are good, but most of this one didn't grab me.
Highlights-Combination of the Two, I Need a Man to Love, and Piece of My Heart.
Twas fine. Some standouts, but mostly just went along. Cool cover tho.
Highlights-Billy Jack and Blue Monday People.
Great voice backed with some pretty good arrangements, def a great one that only lulls every now and then. The title threw me off tho, titled like a live album.
Highlights-Just a Little Lovin', Don't Forget About Me, and The Windmills of Your Mind.
The beats were great, but Madonna's vocals don't really do much with them, to me at least. Many songs were also stretched too long imo.
Highlight-Ray of Light and Candy Perfume Girl
Inoffensive to a fault. Pretty much just washed over me aside from two songs. Can you believe this won Album of the Year at the grammy's in 1990? Must've been a slow period.
Highlights-Love Letter and I Ain't Gonna Let You Break My Heart Again.
Both retro and futuristic in the best ways, listened to both German and English versions.
Highlights-Spacelab, The Model, and Neon Lights
Real dark. The music is consistently engaging while the majority of the lyrics are great and harrowing at their peak, though some have aged horribly.
Highlights-Yes, Ifwhiteamericatoldthetruthforonedayit'sworldwouldfallapart, Of Walking Abortion, She is Suffering, 4st 7lb, Faster, and Die in the Summertime.
I'm honestly surprised to the response this record gets on here, I thought it was a delight! Barrett is a great songwriter and most of the songs here kept me engaged.
Highlights-Terrapin, No Good Trying, Dark Globe, Here I Go, Octopus, and Golden Hair
