The singles are of course tried and true classics. In terms of album-only cuts, its a mixed bag, as some songs didn't stick out to me. Overall, not a bad time/first album, though i'd cut it down a bit as it felt like a bit of a drag at points.
Highlights-The singles, Holier Than Thou, Don't Tread On Me(guilty pleasure), and Through The Never.
It's catchy, but I don't really see myself coming back to it much.
First 2xLP of the project! I terms of which disc is better, it's easily disc 1, as disc 2 kinda didn't have a lot that jumped out at me, at least from what I've heard so far. Not bad, but could've been cut down into a strong 1xLP.
Highlights-Rocks Off, Rip This Joint, Shake Your Hips, Tumbling Dice, Sweet Virginia, Torn and Frayed, Let It Loose, and Stop Breaking Down.
It starts real strong, but then peters out and begins to blend together. Not a bad blend though, and I could see this one growing on me.
Highlights-Zebra, Silver Soul, and Lover of Mine.
Enjoyed this way more than I thought I would, since my last experiences with this band were lukewarm. It's not the greatest thing in the world, but definitely isn't one to avoid. Only thing preventing it from being a 4 or higher is that some songs didn't hit as hard as others.
Highlights-Rikki, East St. Louis, Through With Buzz, With A Gun, and Charlie Freak.
Best R E.M. album I've heard so far, real good energy throughout. Only issue is the production, but it didn't bother me much.
Highlights-Pop Song 89, Get Up, Stand, Turn You Inside-Out, and Hairshirt.
I dunno man, this just felt way too meatheaded and cheesy. By the time Hagar mentions bringing his "pencil" on Hot For Teacher, I just mentally nope out for the rest of the album. I can't say it doesn't deserve its placement in the book, as this was a juggernaut and probably inspired a lot of music like it, though I wouldn't really consider that a good thing.
Highlights-Jump, Panama, Drop Dead Legs, and I'll Wait.
Also the title track reminded me of Live and Learn by Crush 40, not a bad thing, just thought I'd point it out.
It was fine, I'm not the biggest country fan, especially not this more clean kind, so it didn't do much for me. Good voice tho.
Second time listening to a Joni Mitchell album. Was enjoyable, great lyricist and vocalist
Highlights-Coyote, Amelia, Furry Sings The Blues, A Strange Boy, Hejira, ans Song For Sharron.
Was a fun time, lot's of danceable stuff on here. Even the long songs weren't drags, so overall pretty good.
Highlights-Little Red Corvette, Delirious, D.M.S.R., Automatic, and All the Critics Love U in New York.
Some solid post-punk, stayed mostly interesting from song to song. Glad to have found out about these guys.
Highlights-Songs About Chocolate and Girls, There Goes Norman, Hypnotised, Under the Boardwalk, The Way Girls Talk, Wednesday Week, Nine Times out of Ten, and Girls That Don't Talk
Joplin's vocals are good, but most of this one didn't grab me.
Highlights-Combination of the Two, I Need a Man to Love, and Piece of My Heart.
Twas fine. Some standouts, but mostly just went along. Cool cover tho.
Highlights-Billy Jack and Blue Monday People.
Great voice backed with some pretty good arrangements, def a great one that only lulls every now and then. The title threw me off tho, titled like a live album.
Highlights-Just a Little Lovin', Don't Forget About Me, and The Windmills of Your Mind.
The beats were great, but Madonna's vocals don't really do much with them, to me at least. Many songs were also stretched too long imo.
Highlight-Ray of Light and Candy Perfume Girl
Inoffensive to a fault. Pretty much just washed over me aside from two songs. Can you believe this won Album of the Year at the grammy's in 1990? Must've been a slow period.
Highlights-Love Letter and I Ain't Gonna Let You Break My Heart Again.
Both retro and futuristic in the best ways, listened to both German and English versions.
Highlights-Spacelab, The Model, and Neon Lights
Real dark. The music is consistently engaging while the majority of the lyrics are great and harrowing at their peak, though some have aged horribly.
Highlights-Yes, Ifwhiteamericatoldthetruthforonedayit'sworldwouldfallapart, Of Walking Abortion, She is Suffering, 4st 7lb, Faster, and Die in the Summertime.
I'm honestly surprised to the response this record gets on here, I thought it was a delight! Barrett is a great songwriter and most of the songs here kept me engaged.
Highlights-Terrapin, No Good Trying, Dark Globe, Here I Go, Octopus, and Golden Hair
This type of country might be more my speed. Very calm record, like the vibe and Nelson's voice. He really makes these songs his own.
Highlights-Stardust, Georgia on My Mind, Blue Skies, September Song, On The Sunny Side of the Street, Moonlight in Vermont, Don't Get Around Much Anymore, and Someone to Watch Over Me.
This one is way better than I remember it being, mostly killer material with minimal filler. Really catchy too. NYCP not being on the main version is a travesty tho.
Highlights-Is This It, The Modern Age, Barely Legal, Someday, Last Nite, Hard To Explain, New York City Cops, Take It or Leave It
The instrumentals were mostly good, in direct contrast the lyrics were mostly crap. Seriously, Speech, the frontman, thinks so highly of himself compared to his contemporaries, that it's obnoxious. I'm glad these guys have been left in the dust.
Highlights-Man's Final Frontier and Mama's Always On Stage
An odd one for sure, but I enjoyed my time with it. Pretty good mix of reggae and post punk.
Highlights-Instant Hit, So Tough, Spend, FM, Newtown, and Typical Girls.
Not bad, probably the best metal album I've gotten so far. The second half is way more consistent than the first, but that wasn't bad either.
Highlights-The Prisoner, The Number Of The Beast, and Run To The Hills.
Definitely better than I thought it was when I first heard it last year. It has a nice bluesy vibe like Morrison Hotel did. Probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite Doors album.
Highlights-The Changeling, Love Her Madly, Been Down So Long, Cars Hiss By My Window, and Crawling King Snake.
Very unique sound for the time, to my knowledge at least. Good mix of electo and alternative. The first half is better than the second, but half 2 isn't bad at all.
Highlights-Supervixen, Queer, Only Happy When It Rains, As Heaven is Wide, Not My Idea, Stupid Girl, and Milk.
Fine country, not really psych tho.
Pretty good, great beats and solid vocals, does drag a bit at points tho.
Highlights-Doves in the Wind, Drew Berrymore, Prom, and The Weekend.
It was mostly fine, don't think i'm a fan of their longer songs, as I didn't like Animals either.
Highlights-Have A Cigar and Wish You Were Here.
First side is mostly solid rock, side 2 peters out tho with two overlong songs. Could've been better, could've been worse.
Highlights-Lust for Life, Some Weird Sin, The Passenger, and Success.
Pretty good, tho it sags a bit in the middle.
Highlights-Tical, Biscuits, Bring The Pain, and Mr. Sandman.
A beaut, stunning voice and stellar lyrics(both written and not written by Buckley) make this the best one I've gotten so far.
Highlights-Mojo Pin, Grace, Last Goodbye, Lilac Wine, So Real, Hallelujah, Lover, You Should've Come Over, Eternal Life, and Dream Brother.
While this was probably groundbreaking on release, this one just felt ok to me.
Highlights-Tomorrow's World, Bloodsport, and Primitive.
The title track was great but the rest of the album felt way longer than it actually was.
Highlight-Sunshine Superman
Decent swamp rock, tho some songs didn't really stick with me.
Highlights-Born on the Bayou, Bootleg, Graveyard Train, and Proud Mary.
Fitting title, as this one is a departure in tone compared to Beck's previous work(not counting Mutations). Now how does it fare against choppy waters? Strongly, I'd say. There's a bit of a dip with Round the Bend and Already Dead, but those aren't even bad. Overall, very solid showing from Beck, second favorite of his behind Odelay.
Highlights-The Golden Age, Paper Tiger, Guess I'm Doing Fine, Lonesome Tears, Lost Cause, End of the Day, Sunday Sun, and Little One.
Highs were real high, but it felt too bloated for my taste and the middle is a drag.
Highlights-What Up Gangsta, Patiently Waiting, Many Men(Wish Death), High All the Time, Heat, P.I.M.P., Poor Lil' Rich, 21 Questions, and Gotta Make It To Heaven.
Neat experimentation, just kinda washed over me tho.
