1001 Albums Summary

Peak early production studio effects. Musicianship is incredible. Song writing isn’t exactly my style but it’s so fun I can’t deny it.

It’s fun, some really catchy tunes. I think this probably made a big impact in the mid-90s garage rock revival type era.

10/10, no notes. Masterpiece

Never been much for blues rock, but I’m assuming this album made a splash in that scene when it came out. Not sure I’ll listen to this front to back, but obv some very tasty guitar and organ here.

This is a great contrast to the Allman Brothers album. I’m not into “folk-rock” any more than I’m into blues rock, but holy shit if this isn’t just an assembly of all time great songwriters.

Stylistically not my cup of tea, but I think the lyrics are the stand out here. I don’t pick up on them or do a full read along. I’d give it a 3.5 if I could, but I don’t like it as much as some of the 4’s I’ve been giving.

Well, it’s Cream. Everyone knows this record. It blew my mind when I was 12ish. Now, there’s some tasty guitar obv but overall it’s not standing the test of time really. The type of record which sets the mood at the time, but now so many people have done it that it feels old.

Huge guitar tones, hugely influential in its day, still not exactly my cup of tea. Still I like it more than a lot of the three stars I’ve given out.

Felt like a Beatles rip then I saw Lennon helped make this record

This sounds like the blues version of what RHCP did to funk and what Sublime did to reggae. Maybe if Beck and Black Keys had a baby. Not actually sure why this is on the list.

I know the hits obv, but I’ve never listened to this front to back. Some great tunes on here: salt of the earth, stray cat blues, and the falsetto on dear doctor is hilarious

When I saw this pop up, my memory said 5. But there’s definitely Neil’s records I like more than this. And this song concentrates tunes fantasizing about old native life, I think teepees are mentioned at least three times.

I really liked this, great classic old school sound. Wish I took the time for a readalong but not this time.

Classic record, really defines the 90s indie sound alongside Dino jr and modest mouse. Jangly ass guitars

Formative album for me, I love it front to back. Is it objectively a five star perfect album? Maybe not, but for me it is

A personal favorite. Maybe the birthplace of the ambient jazz style I love now. One of Miles’ best.

Idk, it’s fine. Sounds pretty dated to me, and the ideas don’t come off as too original at this point even though it might have been at the time.

Beautifully produced, but not really my style. Very cohesive aesthetic. There are some extremely pretty moments on this record, and a few I felt like they compromised to maintain more recognizable structure like hooks and straight drum beats.

Overall, there are some genius moments on this record but I just feel like it’s over-produced. I like the early Pink Floyd much more. Everything here feels a little too radio polished to also feel psychedelic. Not enough noise.

Idk, this is not for me. They said they were smoking a lot while recording and it shows. Got 90s sound all over it. It has some unique moments but it’s too long and it’s all over the place. The actual songs apart from the sounds are not that interesting.

Feels like a regular old pop-country album. Not doing much for me

Tough one to judge; is this objectively a 4? Probably not. I just like old school British punk

There are some great moments on this record but overall it’s not for me. Maybe at a different time of my life.

I wanted to like this actually, and it’s got a couple great moments. But overall it screams 80s cheese, really not a lot to like about this for me.

This record is very cool, but not really my thing. Some great composition, arrangements, and solos here. Probably wouldn’t turn it on though.

Fun album when he cuts loose, a little more boring on the more conservative tracks. Great voice, but it doesn’t really stand out to me over a lot of other 60s soul.

Some fun tunes on this, and I like the backup vocals. Another girl, another planet is great obv. But I don’t really know if this album stands out long term.

This album is great, genuinely made me like Supertramp more. It’s not 5-star great, but it is very very good.

Ok yeah, one of the most influential albums on me. If it were my first time hearing it, maybe a four, but I have an emotional investment in all of these songs

This record is probably better than I even realize. It’s not really my style of jazz though unfortunately.

It’s got a lot of the elements that make talking heads great, but this is maybe their third or fourth best work. So it can’t be five stars.

Genius, 5/5, greatest jazz pianist of all time.

It’s pleasant, she’s got a great voice, and I love Bill Frisell. It’s a little coffee shop-y for me.

Honestly this is way better than expected considering I don’t really like 80s production or pop. This is *almost* like Michael Jackson and Prince had a baby, but that’s somehow reductive and also overhyped, so maybe I just don’t have a good analog. I’d give it a 4, but I’ll probably never turn this on again and that takes a star away.
