1001 Albums Summary

wasn’t moved. didn’t like the sound at all and only recognized We’re Gonna Be Friends, which sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the album. expected to like it more because i really like alternative stuff but it wasn’t memorable.

i know nothing about/never listened to Simon & Garfunkel, but this felt nostalgic. the vocals and guitar in the background gave me déjà vu. kinda the perfect album for a late-night summer drive with the windows down, and at times made me think of yacht rock.

don’t hate it but not my cup of tea. this sounds like music you’d hear in a random thrift or record store. 2.5

never heard of this group(?) but i really like this sound. not totally unique but i like how familiar it feels

wondered why this guy sounded so familiar and yacht rock-y, specifically the 5th song, only to realize he’s on the apple music yacht rock playlist i occasionally listen to. nice. 2.5 rounded to 3

reminds me of the overall sound of the Empire Records soundtrack.

fell asleep and had a little nap before the last few songs but that isn’t representative of how much or how little i liked this.

not too memorable other than lover you should come over.

at times led zeppelin-esque

oh i get it this is riot grrrl but not as good bc it’s not women. but not really my style.

the last song being 19 minutes you cannot be serious. this is why i can’t deal with half of these rock bands (like zeppelin) these long songs drive me absolutely crazy.

rare moment i wish i was born in a different era. imagine this album drops and you’re listening to it for the first time on your record player in your living room in the house you bought for $200 oh my god

this is lowkey the perfect album because not only did i like basically every song, i added all but one to my playlist. genuinely has never happened before (excluding my musical/browdway/soundtrack playlist)

reviewing this days after i listened so i don’t remember how i felt about it but i added 4 songs to a playlist so i must’ve liked it enough.

sorry i’m not listening to this. i couldn’t even get a full minute into the first song. skipped to the second song and listened in full but didn’t like it either. learning that i like noise music but not when it’s just instrumental.

hate to say that despite growing up listening to /watching michael jackson on the radio, at home, on the tv, etc this is the first time i’ve listened to one of his albums in full. i’m sorry. he’s amazing though there’s nothing else to say

i’m sorry Miss Chapman, i wasn’t familiar with your game. i’d only heard fast car in passing and never really cared for it. listening to an entire album also allowed me to warm up to her sort of shakey voice (idk if this would be considered a vibrato or something else). she really has a beautiful voice and whenever i found myself like the melody a lot i had to pause and process the lyrics—Y’all don’t wanna hear me you just wanna dance.

the nicest thing i can say is i don’t like this in any capacity. 14 songs in 35 minutes should’ve been a sign but i was optimistic bc i saw the Alternative tag and expected good music.

i’ve been waiting to get a (lyrical) non-english album. this is exactly what i needed. it felt so 2000; sounding just a little grainy and nostalgic, even though i’ve never listened to this artist before.

for every kinda normal song, there’s 2 songs that have either the lin manuel miranda style of “spoken singing” or a prince-like high note whisper singing. and then there was one song that had some twang to it. i’m a little confused.

this was okay. i can appreciate certain aspects—guitarist went crazy—but nothing really stuck out to me. the back and forth with some country sounds didn’t appeal to me.

i can appreciate this album for what it is—the handful of cultural influences were interesting in theory, and i’m sure the album recording process was fun— but i wasn’t moved. it felt messy, though more uniform in the second half. i did like two songs, but all together the album was not my cup of tea.

i can’t say this is my first taste of brazilian pop. but it’s (usually) always a pleasure to get an international album, especially in a language or genre i’m not familiar with. i liked most of the songs but near the end of the album some songs had this reoccurring sound in the background that, honestly, reminded me of the bird sounds on some of the rio soundtrack. but in this instance, it was unbearable, leading me to skip one of the songs before it even hit 10 seconds. but it was good overall. 3.5

i’m noticing a common style(?) in older rock that i’m not a fan of. the disconnected instrumentals and vocals make the song feel so empty. i understand guitar solos and crazy riffs are commonplace for rock but the constant “taking turns” rather than sing over/with the guitar is not my favorite thing. i’m obviously not the first to say that hendrix is very talented, but i don’t think this album was for me.

this album felt never ending oh my stars. it’s no scar tissue 🤷 2.5

don’t have much to say. i liked it. listened to the last song maybe 4 times in a row.

this was so fun and i liked the songs. i used to hate live albums bc i hated how they strayed from the studio version. now, i can appreciate how they differ, and the raw vocals and general atmosphere of where it was performed. this was a great intro to Johnny Cash because i got a taste of his personality and his talent, and an audience that had a great time. i’m also realizing that i don’t dislike country as much as i thought i did, i just don’t much like modern country. other than like 2 Florida Georgia Line songs.

short but good. gotta give paul and friends their flowers. 3.5

tried my best to stay open minded but i really can’t deal with songs longer than 10 minutes. i liked the first few minutes of each one but some of them dragged on

i appreciate this album more with the context of him recording it in a sick state and releasing it just weeks before his passing. but it’s not for me. his voice is like a more ominous version of Louis Armstrong, specifically in the first song. i did like Traveling Light.

stevie wonder doesn’t make bad music. but it’s no Songs in the Key of Life
