Madman Across The Water by Elton John
Jul 24 2026

2 good songs (Tiny Dancer and Levon) and 1 decent song (title track) among a 9 track album. The rest is a mess of terrible lyrics, overwrought vocals, and excessive arrangements (strings everywhere). I think Holiday Inn could have been an ok song, but I don't want to hear the narrator talk about being in a rock and roll band when the song is mainly strings and mandolin. I suppose the excess of the 70s doesn't work me. It definitely doesn't on this album

The Wildest! by Louis Prima
Jul 27 2026

Fun and energetic, if somewhat lacking in depth.

Fear Of Music by Talking Heads
Jul 28 2026

Jittery and paranoid with mostly excellent songs and lyrics. One or two tracks that aren’t quite at the level of the rest

We Are Family by Sister Sledge
Jul 29 2026

Decent disco album, but not much sticks with you once it has ended. I don’t think I’d ever go back to this one again

Surrealistic Pillow by Jefferson Airplane
Jul 30 2026

I expected a lot of folk, hippie nonsense from this one, but was pleasantly surprised. Beyond the 2 well-known hits, there are some excellent tracks. Plastic Fantastic Lover and 3/5 of a Mile in 10 Seconds are among my favorites. There are a few boring clunkers, but, overall, you can hear how this would have been new and exciting in 1967 and go on to influence a lot of subsequent acts.

First Band On The Moon by The Cardigans
Jul 31 2026

Lounge pop with a bit of a dark side. It doesn’t always work, but when it does, it is pop gold.

Aug 03 2026

Classic 2000s British snarkiness. Probably a few songs that should have been cut from the album, but still a fun rock record with numerous butt wigglers

Funeral by Arcade Fire
Aug 04 2026

Perfect 10 album of anthemic indie rock. To hear this for the first time back in 2004 was exhilarating. The album is still amazing and outshines the music that it inspired (including later Arcade Fire releases).

Berlin by Lou Reed
Aug 07 2026

Nothing really grabbed me on this ine

Doggystyle by Snoop Dogg
Aug 10 2026

Some enjoyable tunes but repetitive. The samples are the best part

Axis: Bold As Love by Jimi Hendrix
Aug 14 2026

Not a perfect 10 due to some bad backing vocals and the one Noel Redding sung tune. Still a great album, though

Queen II by Queen
Aug 18 2026

I’m struggling to understand how this would be required listening, except as a cautionary tale.

Countdown To Ecstasy by Steely Dan
Aug 19 2026

I assume this is very technically proficient, but it is also boring.

The Healer by John Lee Hooker
Aug 20 2026

The lyrics the lyrics are repetitive are repetitive. Maybe that is Hooker’s style, but it isn’t for me. Guitar-wise, blues is fine but it all sounds like every other blues song Ive heard.
