1001 Albums Summary

Undeniably a legend. I quite enjoy his vocals & the general instrumentation/arrangement on the tracks. I like how the covers are really his own spin on those classic songs, rather than a replica of the original (my girl is pretty spot on replica tho). Cover of satisfaction is very fun soul-ifying the stones mainly with his vocals. He’s so masterful with the use of the growl in his voice but also kinda sultry pulling back. Fav track might be you don’t miss your water. What can I say, I love a ballad. Soul music can sometimes feel a little formulaic with the chord progressions (esp ballads methinks) but it’s a good formula which makes all the songs sound kinda familiar to me and I enjoy things that feel familiar. Wait ole man trouble might be fav track. Love that little guitar riff (reminds me of another song what is it????). Still a soul ballad I just love a soul ballad. Just learned he died in a plane crash at 26, which is quite sad. Wait holy shit just read that this version of respect was BEFORE Aretha’s. Wow! 1965 also the year my grandparents got married which makes this feel more significant somehow. Gonna go three stars because it was enjoyable and great musicians but also there was a bit of monotony and I’m not gonna wake up in the morning and think I NEED TO LISTEN TO OTIS BLUE

Wait I’m excited to listen to this. Yeah I’m gonna love this listen. Here we are in 1966!! love this genre tbh love the layered background vocals. This is music that makes you feel good. Fav track might be straight shooter (if I’m trying to not go w one of the big hits)

I can appreciate the talent and artistry but not the most enjoyable listen for me

I adore her. Doesn’t feel like a coincidence that this is the album pick the day after she died. Early morning breeze probably my fav track because of that bass line!!!!! But zero skips. Can’t really say enough about how incredible dolly was.

Tbh only listened to three songs and got the gist. I would enjoy if in a particular mood

Wait… I like this. Makes me feel like I’m at the bronze in Buffy and it’s GOOD. Makes sense they opened for smashing pumpkins given their sound. Such a great era tbh. Hasn’t been a song I didn’t like yet. Okay, looked it up. And garbage’s song “temptation waits” was included on “Buffy the vampire slayer: the album” released in 1999 though it was never included in an episode of Buffy. I really like this. Inspired to check out more of garbages stuff this is the best discovery I’ve made doing 1001 albums so far!! I love the 90s and I love a rock diva frontwoman

Omg I loved the tortoise album TNT but had forgotten about it!! This is the kinda thing you wanna listen to with headphones.

A solid 3.5 because I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love this era of country and even added the wild side of life to a playlist. Doesn’t get 4 stars because I don’t feel inspired to go to this album and listen again

I can’t believe I haven’t listened to this before!! I do quite like it and will come back to it though it may have amplified my already grumpy mood

Well Led Zeppelin is pretty good huh. This album I’m less familiar with in their discography and less compelled to come back to so this is a solid 3.5

Another hole album! I did like live through this better, with its more raw punk sound. But I do have such a soft spot for 90s alternative (esp girl bands) with the Buffy of it all. I’ll give celebrity skin a 3.25

So I love the song breakdown but honestly on most of the other tracks I found myself getting a little irritated with tom petty’s vocal tone or sort of affectation. American girl is a classic of course, but I’m not gonna come back to this album to give it a listen through again (just gonna come back to breakdown lol) so this gets a solid 3 stars
