Deja Vu - Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (1970). 6/10. Folk pop, except for the Neil Young tracks.

Initially hooks you but then pummels you and then you wait for it to end.

A couple of good songs but otherwise surprisingly regular rock. Difficult to listen to that warble for a whole album.

Someone once said to me “Who told him he could sing”. Where is _she_ now? Also, the one album with a tuba to listen to before you die.

"Holocaust" was quite uplifting, until I paid attention to the lyrics.

Lads music. I Wanna Be Adored is good, for sure, but I like some covers of it better e.g. King Woman.

Disappointing. "Heroes", yes fine. But the rest is much less interesting.

So many style shifts makes it all seem like. fame academy role play. Insincere.

Pretty sluggish given the working conditions.

The abuse of the delay pedal already got out of hand in The Unforgettable Fire.

Retro future music

Tiresome 1970s classic rock live album with crowd work and cheating overdubbing. The super deluxe version is 9hr 52min. I'm sorry that's too much.

NME: "... possibly the most arrogant record made this decade". OK.

Kinda boring. In My Time of Dying stands out. Reminded me of Jack White.

The good tracks are great but otherwise yet another example of electronic music failing to fill up an album with interesting ideas.

I didn’t dislike it but did I have to hear it before I died?

It taught me what a Clavinet sounds like.

Cellogaze. My music app followed on with Galaxie 500, Jesus and Mary Chain etc which were frankly a lot more interesting.

This sounded pretty dated even in 1990, like Nitzer Ebb. Sorry.

Latte music

Minus the guitar solos and the alarm clocks, great album. I tell myself this isn't really prog rock because I couldn't possibly like that.

Excruciating.

With so much at their disposal, why did they choose a garbage horn voice so often??

Producing an album like this will earn you a nice house in Hampstead.

Somewhere in that 2 hour sprawl is the 45 minute album it should have been.

Dukes of Hazzard.

This wouldn't be here if they hadn't shifted up an octave five years later, but still interesting to hear late 60s pop trying to be serious.

Occasionally interesting, mostly not. The lyrics are drivel. So much craft in things retro is better suited to furniture than music.

Dull lounge music. Songs feel shapeless, and so become wallpaper.

Used to listen to it a lot. Then stopped. Some of the tracks still are effective, but maybe I'm less into earnestness now.

Hard to assess. I have nothing to add about her ability as a singer. Familiar songs too. But I was totally unmoved by it.

“You might also like Bjork or Kate Bush.” I wonder what goes through a singer’s head when they make the deliberate choice to sound like an 8 eight year alternating between glee and a sharp pain.

Too much breathy singing.

Bleak headache.

It's on the list, I guess, because of one track in particular, Diminuendo and Crescendo (the audience sounds like they're going to tear the place down), rather than the album overall. But it's worth it.

Jaunty re-Kinks. Didn’t hold my attention.

Cash brings something to some of the covers and in some cases the sparse sound improves their impact. (I listened to the original "Hurt", so weak in comparison.) But some choices—Danny Boy??—are surely mistakes.

Pure fluff with a whiff of creepy bachelor pad.

Scrappy. Someone needed to tell Mitch Mitchell to lay off the cymbals.

And now the daughter of João Gilberto. More fluff but this time for the chill-out lounge rather than the creepy bachelor pad.

Noodle jazz and poetry. Better as an LCD Soundsystem punchline.
