Blue Lines by Massive Attack

I’m a BIG Massive Attack fan. This is certainly not their best album, so if this one isn’t for you don’t count them out. I love the elevator music, Euro-rap, and R&B elements that this album blends into a delightful song smoothie. This is one also of the first bands that I bonded with my step-dad over. These songs will always hold a special place in my heart and singing along will always add a special kind of joy to my day. And Tricky is fucking incredible. So there’s also that.

Off The Wall by Michael Jackson

The pedophilia of it all does put a damper on the album

All Things Must Pass by George Harrison
Oct 10 2026

Similar to any Beatles album, this contained several songs I wouldn’t be mad to hear on a shuffled playlist. However, a two-hour album that mixes in two or three decent songs just isn’t worth a listen in my book. Album is a pass for me even if it does have some catchy hits.

Fetch The Bolt Cutters by Fiona Apple
Oct 11 2026

I love a little Fiona Apple. Only downside to the album: the first song was so overplayed when it came out that I did have to skip it. I’ve heard it one too many times already.

The Good, The Bad & The Queen by The Good, The Bad & The Queen
Oct 12 2026

No memorable songs, but it was a decent listen. The gorillaz, the clash, and the verve are better. Maybe not a 100% necessary collab.

The College Dropout by Kanye West
Oct 13 2026

Listened to a Yo La Tango album instead (Electr-o-pura= 5 stars). Kanye doesn’t hit the same after the MAGA anti-semitism of it all…

Music in Exile by Songhoy Blues
Oct 14 2026

Lovely. Desert Melodie is truly incredible. It’s rhythmically confusing in a way that just works. This group executes with a level of creativity that other bands only dream of.

Happy Trails by Quicksilver Messenger Service

This feels foundational. Would I reach for this album typically? No. But I had a pleasant (and productive) morning listening to it at work. It’s jam band adjacent, but I don’t hate it for some reason. Maybe because it’s somewhere between jam band and sound track in its vibe, I find it more tolerable? Anyways there’s something here about how this album influenced many artists that came after. QMS walked so they could run. Yadda yadda. I don’t have a music degree. I’d say this inspired as many decent bands as it did god fucking awful jam bands who thought noodling with their boys would sound this good. This album likely has an aggressively net neutral impact. It’s fine, but things that came after were both great and grisly.

Aja by Steely Dan
Oct 17 2026

Do I like Steely Dan? I can’t say I love it or that it’s my brand of music, but it’s not terrible. While listening, I couldn’t stop thinking, “Man, this is such a Jon album.” Maybe I just love Jon or something…

So great to find new songs for my liked playlist, and so many from just one album! If Steely Dan’s Aja is a Jon album, then this is certainly a Madeleine album. And you love to see some surprise Thom Yorke! I can certainly see how this inspired other artists I love (Mitski took some major notes). There’s just something about crunchy guitar, stream of consciousness lyrics, and angry girl singing that gets me.

Safe As Milk by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
Oct 19 2026

You’ve heard of good cop/bad cop, but have you heard of good trip/bad trip? This album works that angle pretty hard. Some songs are bangers, others bang ears. What a ride to be put on edge by one song and then consoled by the next. I’d listen again… maybe in a less sober state as the band intended I’m sure.

Really fun at the start, but I just don’t know if I can listen to a full hour of this genre. Might be a tad too much for me.

Rust Never Sleeps by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Oct 22 2026

Neil Young doesn’t get old.

3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul
Oct 25 2026

This album is contagiously happy. I found myself smiling the whole way through. The samples alone are worth 4 stars. The Orgee song was maybe a pass for me though…

Oct 26 2026

There’s a certain theatricality to British punk that makes it hit different. This was a fun reminder of how much I enjoy a simple loud punk album. That said, I spent a lot of the album thinking about spiritually similar albums that I should put back in rotation. Maybe more of a 4.5 for me?

The Gershwin Songbook by Ella Fitzgerald
Oct 27 2026

What a voice. Makes me think of slow dancing in the kitchen during a February storm. It’s snowing outside but the heat of the oven warms bare feet and frozen toes. There’s something delicious and rich cooking in there... But this is a very long time to slow dance. A bitch is going to burn her cookies. Me. I am that bitch.
