Popular Reviews

Beyond Skin by Nitin Sawhney

Really liked that, different

Brilliant. I've loved a lot of these songs for a while but never realised it was this album.

Casanova by The Divine Comedy

Used to love divine comedy, ages since I heard them. Wonder if this has my lovely horse on it? ๐Ÿ˜‰ I'd forgotten how bloody good they were. Thoroughly enjoyed that and will listen again.

No idea what to expect here. Brian has such huge range in his work. ๐Ÿ˜Š Enjoyed this. You wouldn't think it was the same guy who wrote music for airports!

Five Leaves Left by Nick Drake
Jan 13 2021

Chilled out listening. Instrumentals and guitars. Nick's voice is really good. Takes me back to the good days of songs being sung.

Jan 14 2021

An old favourite, straight from the 80's. Intelligent pop. Annie Lennox voice is always incredible.

The Stone Roses by The Stone Roses
Jan 15 2021

Not listened to stone roses for years. Looking forward to this one. Enjoyed that, I'd forgotten that they can be quite chilled out

Cosmo's Factory by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Jan 18 2021

Great album. Some absolute classics on this album. Great guitar, just a great album

Hunky Dory by David Bowie
Jan 19 2021

Not really listened to a lot of Bowie, this should be interesting. You forget what a classic, and how pervasive Bowie was. Even though I'm not a particular fan, I still recognised a lot of those songs. Good album, enjoyed it, but probably wouldn't pull it out specifically to listen to again.

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Jan 20 2021

Ooh interesting, an artist I've not heard of before. Looking forward to listening to this one. Not so fussed on this one. Very light and quirky, and it reminds me so much of someone I can't put my finger on it. Alright background listening, not one I'd sit and listen to. Got bored after 30 minutes at the sameness of it. Didn't listen anymore (long album as well!)

Songs For Swingin' Lovers! by Frank Sinatra
Jan 21 2021

A classic. Not actually listened to an album of Frank. Let's see how it goes. What's not to like? It's Frank doing his swinging thing.

Beach Samba by Astrud Gilberto
Jan 22 2021

No ideas what to expect! Well I'm not sure why that was on a list of 1001 albums to listen to. It sounded like your stereotypical late 60's/70's album

Happy Trails by Quicksilver Messenger Service
Jan 25 2021

Oookay?? Not what I was expecting given the cover art! Think Doors lite, without Jim. Mainly instrumental 60's rock. Ok, but nothing mind blowing.

Abbey Road by Beatles
Jan 26 2021

A classic album, what can be said, Beatles at their best.

Joan Baez by Joan Baez
Jan 27 2021

An artist I know, but never really listened to.

Out Of The Blue by Electric Light Orchestra
Jan 28 2021

It's ELO nuff said. Great songs.

Revolver by Beatles
Jan 29 2021

Another classic from the beatles

The Slider by T. Rex
Feb 01 2021

Forget how distinctive a sound trex have. Enjoyed it.

Queen II by Queen
Feb 02 2021

Looking forward to this classic!!! ๐Ÿ‘ Not listened to that for years. Only one I remember is seven seas of Rhye. You forget how good their early stuff was.

Feb 03 2021

Not sure about this one. I'm aware of devo, how avantr Garde they were, amazing look and distinctive sound especially for the time. But not for me. Gave it 15 minutes, the songs were so samey.

Appetite For Destruction by Guns N' Roses
Feb 04 2021

This might be enjoyable, can't remember the songs on it. Forgot what a banger this was. Might be cheesy and corny, but It took me back to my teenage years..really enjoyed this one.

Fever Ray by Fever Ray
Feb 05 2021

Started off really interesting. I like the voices, and music. The lyrics got a bit annoying. Enjoyed it though, very Bjork kind of feel.

Astral Weeks by Van Morrison
Feb 08 2021

Not bad, bit didn't feel compelled to listen to all of it.

The Gershwin Songbook by Ella Fitzgerald
Feb 09 2021

You can't beat Ella's voice, and paired with Gershwin.....classic. But as an album to listen to, I prefer her soul or blues stuff. For me that's where her voice comes into its own.

Feb 10 2021

No idea what to expect here. Brian has such huge range in his work. ๐Ÿ˜Š Enjoyed this. You wouldn't think it was the same guy who wrote music for airports!

Odelay by Beck
Feb 11 2021

There's a reason he's been around so long. Thoroughly enjoyed this.

Casanova by The Divine Comedy
Feb 12 2021

Used to love divine comedy, ages since I heard them. Wonder if this has my lovely horse on it? ๐Ÿ˜‰ I'd forgotten how bloody good they were. Thoroughly enjoyed that and will listen again.

1999 by Prince
Feb 15 2021

Enjoyed a blast from the past

Cross by Justice
Feb 16 2021

Not entirely sure what that was, but i don't think I'm a fan!

Shaft by Isaac Hayes
Feb 17 2021

A lot of songs not available. But some nice 70's funk, a lot of duff dated stuff now though.

At Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash
Feb 22 2021

Now this I can understand being on the list!!

Aja by Steely Dan
Feb 24 2021

Nothing mind blowing, pleasant, enjoyed it, but ok

Now I Got Worry by The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
Feb 25 2021

Some blues! Should be interesting. Yeah, that's not blues. Not a fan. Lots of screaming and shouting and out of tune music......the brief bits I listened to.

It's Blitz! by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Feb 26 2021

Didn't listen to it all, but might revisit.

Bossanova by Pixies
Mar 01 2021

Not a fan of punk to be honest. Don't listen to much if this.

Blood And Chocolate by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Mar 04 2021

Alright, never been a big fan of Elvis Costello

The Coral by The Coral
Mar 09 2021

I like the coral. You forget some of the classic they knocked out.

Catch A Fire by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Mar 11 2021

Won't even be trying this. Reggae is a genre I just can't get away with.

Beyond Skin by Nitin Sawhney
Mar 17 2021

Really liked that, different

Jazz Samba by Stan Getz
Mar 18 2021

This should be good. Not treadmill listening though!

The Atomic Mr Basie by Count Basie & His Orchestra
Mar 22 2021

Brilliant stuff. Listened in bed and it was perfect. Mellow, nostalgic. Reminded me of old school radio shows, very atmospheric.

Let It Bleed by The Rolling Stones
Mar 23 2021

Not a huge fan of the stones but this wasn't bad.

NEU! 75 by Neu!
Mar 24 2021

This was a nice surprise. A weird mix of instrumental, punk and new age ambient!

The Rise & Fall by Madness
Mar 30 2021

Won't listen to this. Beyond the famous ones, I don't like ska.

Tidal by Fiona Apple
Mar 31 2021

Not bad

Night Life by Ray Price
Apr 01 2021

Not my thing

Suede by Suede
Apr 05 2021

Don't think I was that fussed on suede

The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest
Apr 08 2021

What I heard I enjoyed. Chilled hip hop.

Gentlemen by The Afghan Whigs
Apr 09 2021

Not bad

Sister by Sonic Youth
Apr 12 2021

Not fussed

Apr 15 2021

Brilliant. I've loved a lot of these songs for a while but never realised it was this album.

Make Yourself by Incubus
Apr 16 2021

I've a feeling this is not for me! Nope!

White Light / White Heat by The Velvet Underground
Apr 21 2021

An album of two halves. At first I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't think I liked velvet underground. But was enjoying some classic 60's rock/prog rock. The last half got a bit too discordant for my tastes though.
