Popular Reviews

Gentlemen by The Afghan Whigs

Familiarity: 0/10 Notes: wow. Symphonic Grunge, layered emotion, and tight playing. Note to self, check out more Afghan Whigs Real Rating: 8/10

Hot Rats by Frank Zappa

Familiarity: 6/10 Frank Zappa's Hot Rats remains one of his most well known albums, and as one of the greatest rock albums of all time. This album carries it's 43min runtime through only 6 songs. Starting off with beautiful guitar composition in Peaches, to a driven jam instrumental in Willie the Pimp. The album then leads into the light hearted Zappa composition, Son of Mr. Green Genes, and continues on into the soothing jazz bass line of Little Umbrellas. Finally the album closes out with the intense rock epic The Gumbo Variations and the album closer, It Must Be A Camel. Favorite Tracks: (All of it, obviously... but the stand-outs) - Peaches en Regalia - phenomenal solo work - The Gumbo Variations - that bass tho

Live At The Regal by B.B. King

Familiarity: 1/10 Notes: I was not familiar with BB King live prior to this recording. The energy and drive he had as a showman as well as a musicians combined, with a fantastic backing band, led to an enjoyable and fun 35min jazz journey. Would definitely like to find myself listening to more Favorite Tracks: - Sweet Little Angel - Worry, Worry - Woke Up This Morning True Rating: 7/10

Sound Affects by The Jam
Jan 14 2021

Familiarity: 1/10 Notes: The Jam is not a jam band. They do not make flavored fruit preserves. However, they do fuck. They fuck hard. Driving bass lines, new wave sound mixed with some proto punk. North England punk kid just looking to play. This sound will not be for everyone, but as a man starving for more new wave in my life, this album hits it all, I am pleased with this. Favorite Tracks: - Monday - Set The House Ablaze - Start! - Dream Time - Boy About Town True Rating: 7.5/10

Live At The Regal by B.B. King
Jan 15 2021

Familiarity: 1/10 Notes: I was not familiar with BB King live prior to this recording. The energy and drive he had as a showman as well as a musicians combined, with a fantastic backing band, led to an enjoyable and fun 35min jazz journey. We Are Family by Sister Sledge
Jan 16 2021

Familiarity: 3/10 Notes: Classic Disco sound, unfortunately not a sound I can take a whole lot of. Slogged through it, begrudgingly. True Rating: 6/10

Axis: Bold As Love by Jimi Hendrix
Jan 17 2021

Familiarity: 1/10 Notes: Although I'm familiar with his legacy and live career, I have not listened to much studio Jimi Hendrix. This album exceeded by expectations sonically and was a journey worth taking Real Rating: 7.5/10

To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar
Jan 19 2021

Familiarity: 7/10 Notes: Having just listened to this album for the first time not even a month ago, it seems fitting for this album to be brought up at a time like this. With the era of Trump hopefully coming to an end, and our future with President Biden awakening, I believe this album is perfect for the times. With mix of funk, spoken word, and best poetry, this sophisticated rnb/hip hop effort by Kendrick Lamar is straight ear candy. This album is already a classic, and it will live on as it finds new purpose every few years, I'm sure. Real Rating: 8.5/10

Jan 20 2021

Familiarity: 7/10 Notes: it's dark side of the moon. If you seriously are not familiar just stop reading and start listening. Done? Good. Now then, this isn't even their best album! Get started! Real Rating: 8/10

Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel
Jan 21 2021

Familiarity: 7/10 Notes: Acoustic joy and playful harmonies. This is the way Real Rating 7.5/10

Hot Buttered Soul by Isaac Hayes
Jan 22 2021

Familiarity: 1/10 Notes: one of Isaac Hayes' earlier works, Hot Buttered Soul is 4 tracks long, taking up roughly 45min of one's time. Despite the track brevity these songs are blues driven jams. A live experience within a studio album. Real Rating: 6.5/10

I Should Coco by Supergrass
Jan 23 2021

Familiarity: 0/10 Notes: wow. Did not expect to love this album so much. Split finely between 90s britpunk and a jammed out exploration bordering Beatles territory, I Should Coco is an incredibly well put together album that continued to exceed my expectations one track after the other all the way through to the end. Real Rating: 8.5/10

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
Jan 25 2021

Familiarity: 8/10 Notes: one of my favorite Pink Floyd albums after Division Bell and The Wall, Wish You Were Here is a delightful album anytime of day, anytime of year. Real Rating: 8/10

Franz Ferdinand by Franz Ferdinand
Jan 26 2021

Familiarity: 0/10 Notes: This album is a bop. Dance all day. Dance all night Real Rating: 7/10

Walking Wounded by Everything But The Girl
Jan 27 2021

Familiarity: 0/10 Notes: a unique and original voice at the time, this album feels ahead of it's time based on release, but not quite my cup of tea. Hit me up in a year and I'll give it another go. Real Rating: 6.7/10

The Stooges by The Stooges
Jan 29 2021

Familiarity: 1/10 Notes: The Stooges' self titled is a classic proto punk driven rock record. Boasting long guitar riffs and solid jams Real Review: 7.5/10

2112 by Rush
Feb 02 2021

Familiarity: 6/10 Notes: One of my favorite Rush albums, the 2112 composition is a classic example of pure unadulterated rock. Real Rating: 7.5/10

Gentlemen by The Afghan Whigs
Feb 04 2021

Familiarity: 0/10 Notes: wow. Symphonic Grunge, layered emotion, and tight playing. Note to self, check out more Afghan Whigs Real Rating: 8/10

Feb 09 2021

Familiarity: 1/10 Notes: Although I've never personally endeavored to listen to a Nirvana Album, or maybe even a Nirvana song, yet I found myself humming and recognizing around half of the tracklist including covers. A rock classic, this band will always find a way to live on. Real Rating: 7/10

Savane by Ali Farka Touré
Feb 12 2021

Familiarity: 0/10 Notes: I have no idea what he was singing about, but man I loved in. African Folk, instruments playing different rhythms, soothe sounds, Ali Farka Touré transcends his language, I thoroughly enjoyed the album throughout. Real Rating 7/10

Fragile by Yes
Feb 13 2021

Familiarity: 4/10 Notes: listen, when you start your album off with a song like Roundabout, you know shit stays at that high of a bar until the last measure. One of their most recognizable albums, due in part to the opening track, Fragile is a funky prog rock classic Real Rating: 8/10

Too Rye Ay by Dexys Midnight Runners
Feb 17 2021

Familiarity:1/10 Notes: to think this band had a huge hit. I'm still kinda amazed Real Rating: 6/10

Connected by Stereo MC's
Aug 31 2023

Familiarity: 0/10 Playful and small party driven hip hop. Go back to this one, it’ll only get better. True Rating: 7/10

Crazysexycool by TLC
Sep 01 2023

Familiarity: 0/10 Honestly, not what I expected. For a girl pop group, they focus more on rnb, hip hop, and rap. Would consider diving more into this; Left Eye’s got a wild history too. TRUE Rating: 6.5/10

KIWANUKA by Michael Kiwanuka

Familiarity: 6/10 Classic souls energy, a modern twist on important foundations. True Rating: 7.5/10
