7/10. I liked a decent number of these songs, and there was a fun range of moods. That said, it got old after 45 minutes or so. Wouldn't listen through it again, but definitely worth listening to
6/10. As advertised. A bit beautiful, and a bit of a letdown.
5/10. Reminds me of American Idiot, but not as good.
8/10. Kinda funky, I can see how this would be really fun as a live, underground option, but it was only pretty food overall, I would say. The tug boat themed one was fun.
9/10. This was a lot of fun, and a very quick listen. I think I'd like to listen to more stuff like this
3/10. Sounded like Nick Cave, but a little less harsh. Almost fell asleep in my chair 2-3 times trying to listen to this. Definitely not my thing
7/10. I think this was a bit worse than Garbage, but still definitely felt like listening to Garbage.
9/10. I thought this was really neat.
5/10. I can't deny that great heights is a great song, but most of this album felt a bit lackluster to me. Which, I suppose, is sort of the point of the indie aesthetic, but I guess I just like my music lustrous.
7/10. Feels like it could be a soundtrack for Purgatory. But maybe I just need to stop listening to albums after lunch.
I really liked this, and I feel like I've been stingy with my ratings at times. So in keeping with the theme, I'm going to give this a 9.99 repeating out of 10.
9/10. Ooh, when I saw this I wasn't looking forward to it because I didn't think Beautiful Freak was all that, but it seems like another instance of the main list just not picking the most enjoyable album to represent a particular artist.
9/10. This was really chill, definitely need to revisit at a time when I can listen to the lyrics more attentively, because what I heard, I liked.
6/10. Definitely a pleasant listen, though I think I'd have gotten bored on some of the longer tracks if I hadn't been focused on work at the time.
7/10. Oh, forgot to rate this the day I listened to it, but it was pretty cool.
7/10. Yeah, this was a good album, and with enough prominent songs on it that I am surprised that it didn't make the list. Or I would be surprised if I was a naive baby who thought that albums released after the 1st edition of the book in 2005 were likely to be included in subsequent revisions.
10/10. I submitted this album, so obviously I like it. I will admit though that it was not my favorite album not to be included on the main list, only my favorite from an artist with no albums on the list. The first three songs are the best start to an album I could ask for, but it does leave the album feeling pretty front-heavy, which is in my mind it's biggest weakness. Also a perfect album to put on for a short drive, because I don't feel obligated to finish it if I get home faster than I expected.
9/10. This was kinda sick, I wish people would have quit coming up to me at work and trying to talk to me while I was listening to this, because it was super enjoyable.
6/10. I mean, it's a whole album of Jimmy Buffet. I agree he ought to have something on the list, and I might have given it a 7 if I'd listened to it in the summer on the beach with a strong drink
9/10. Love this, makes me wish I'd actually learned some French from my high school class, but oh well.
6/10. Definitely pleasant and mellow. Not something I'd have sought out on my own, but a cool little recommendation.
4/10. It's a good thing these guys say they don't care what I think, because I didn't enjoy this music very much. Like, the summer breeze cover was fun because it was so unexpected and different, but I think Gothic metal just isn't for me.
7/10. Better than I expected
8/10. Definitely had some moments where I was vibing with it, but it didn't rock my world either. I feel like the bits that stood out to me were often just the tracks I'd heard before, but there was cool stuff that didn't sound familiar as well. I can imagine a world where I grow to really enjoy this album.
3/10. Y'all's reviews got my hopes up. Disliked the singing, the lyricism was hit or miss (with a tendency towards miss), the instrumentals just felt a bit stiff and lifeless to me, and then it just takes itself so seriously with the long-running songs. And then the 70 minute runtime was gratuitous, but that's the 90s for ya. I thought the dreaming tree was okay, maybe because Stockholm syndrome had set in at that point, or maybe because my mind was wandering for the first half of it so it didn't feel as long.
7/10. This was nice, but it didn't quite hit home for me.
7/10. Can any musical career truly be complete without a song about masturbation?
8/10. I like that you can read the title as No One in Heaven if you want to. Also the music was pretty cool.
7/10. Ah, yes. I actually listened to this album shortly after getting Hot Rats on the main list, because I had really liked that album, and figured maybe I liked Zappa and should listen to more of his stuff. What I discovered? That I only really like Zappa's music when he keeps his mouth shut. That said, relistening to this with that expectation going in, I tuned out the singing a bit more, and this was a pretty fun album, definitely more enjoyable than the Mothers of Invention albums that made the main list. And I do really like Cosmik Debris.
6/10. Maybe even verging on a 7? The lyrics sounded good, even if I couldn't understand much of them, the music varied from interesting to annoying depending on the song and my mood.
5/10. Well, I think that was enough autotune to keep me satisfied for a few years. Not bad by any means, and there were some nice lyrics as well, but I don't really like the overall sound that much.
8/10. Yep, pretty good stuff, always fun listening to older stuff
10/10. Yeah, it's Earth Wind and Fire, and one of their better albums at that. Always super fun to listen to, though I'm not usually the type to listen to a whole album of theirs at once, and I did like That's the Way of the World better as an album.
7/10. Had no idea what this was going in, and enjoyed it. Good instrumental music.
8/10. I thought this was pretty cool, really enjoyed the sound, and the lyrics were well crafted, and often a little jarring compared to everything else going on.
7/10. You know, I scoffed at the review that said this album gave them a burst of creativity, but you know what, after listening to this today I mixed a new recipe for cocktail bitters, colored on sugar with a highlighter, and invented a Princess Bride themed drinking game, so maybe this is a creative booster.
6/10. Was pretty good, but not super memorable. Maybe it's something that would grow on me. I liked "The Worlds First Ever Monster Truck Front-Flip".
9/10. This was really pretty.
5/10. This was fine, but metal's not really my thing. Better than I expected though, considering that seeing an 80 minute metal album in my path was one of the things that made me take a hiatus from listening to user albums.
8/10. This was a fun listen
7/10. Worth a relisten when I've got time to appreciate the songwriting. This run through all I really got out of this was that they were Irish and they sounded pretty good
6/10. I could definitely relate to In The Garage, I love spending time in spaces with 12-sided dice where no one can hear Weezer.
5/10. Some of the ways they mixed sounds reminded me a more of The Avalanches' album from the main list than most hip-hop. And, like with that album, I thought this one was memorable and worthy and a good submission and whatnot, but not that enjoyable for me to listen to, personally.
7/10. I went back on forth on whether I found this irritating or charming. I did laugh a bit at the "end rhymes are not my fort" line. Don't know that I needed a bonus track that, by the sound of it, features about 10 Muppet chickens but no one is making me listen to the bonus tracks I can stop whenever I want
6/10. This was peaceful and chilled out, but didn't really stand out to me a ton. Definitely a good album, but not something I am crazy for.
8/10. hon hon hon, c'est francais. Didn't make that big of an impression on me for my first listen, but it was very pleasant, and it looks like it was submitted by the French (Quebecois, perhaps?) user whose reviews I always see and who seems to like a lot of the same music I do, so I should probably give it another listen, perhaps on a walk on a rainy day?
4/10. The first two tracks sounded wildly different, and I didn't really like either of them. There is a lot going on in this album, and I admire the variety and experimentation, but it definitely isn't approachable. I could see this growing on me if I listened to more stuff like it, but I don't really see that in my future. I liked Immaterial alright, it felt a lot more digestible than the rest of the album. Glad I listened to it, didn't like it.
7/10. This was good. I enjoyed listening to it. I feel like I should have more to say about it, but I guess this is it.
7/10. Very pleasant, definitely faded into the background while I was working though so didn't leave me with a lot of impressions.
4/10. A mix of weird electronic sounds and sleepy piano music that just really isn't doing it for me today. Good to know that someone is out there forcing Spotify to support unicode, though.
8/10. I do really like it when Rock Operas actually have different singers for different characters, makes it a lot easier to follow. And there really isn't enough modern music about people getting fucked over by forest spirits, so this was an enjoyable listen for me.
8/10. Okay, I can see why this album gets hyped up. Great name for an album as well
5/10. There was some cool stuff going on here for sure, but none of it really grabbed me.
6/10. Very bold of a 2000's pop song to claim "I'm gonna stand the test of time". I liked this music in a nostalgic sort of way, but the album was definitely a little longer than I would have liked.
7/10. Pretty good, nothing drive me crazy though.
7/10. Good listen, how come the wikipedia article shows Penny Arcade in the related articles section?
4/10. I always try to believe the best of people, so I have to assume that whoever added this was trying to add a Reel Big Fish album to the list, but due to an honest misunderstanding we ended up with a real big Phish album instead.
7/10. Listened to this, was pretty good, forgot to rate it and now I forget what it was like. Maybe I'll give it a relisten some time.
7/10. Damn, this guy loves singing about semen. One of those albums that does a lot of cool stuff, but the end-product just isn't something I'm that into.
7/10. Pleasant and instrumental, a good listen to be certain but nothing life-changing.
8/10. Has a handful of hits that make up for some of the weaker numbers (Pawn Shop dragggged on). And considering the main list's shortcomings in terms of ska and reggae, this was a refreshing listen
8/10. Crap, I keep listening to albums and then forgetting to review them day of. But this was quite good.
6/10. Someone give me a heads up if they ever make a feral impala, that might be more exciting to listen to.
7/10. Quite good. Pleasant, reminiscent of 2000s pop without most of the stuff that makes 2000s pop painful to relisten to
6/10. Cool idea, but I didn't really like the execution that much. Overall I suppose I liked it, but barely
5/10. I see why they're called the Hold Steady—the sound and subject matter hardly varied at all over the course of the album. It was still enjoyable enough, but better for a song than an album
8/10. Interesting and original, at least to me. A good bit of variety between songs made this a really dynamic listen.
6/10. Was hoping for more from the description, but it was okay.
6/10. Yeah, guess I liked this
8/10. I'm so glad that in the post-CD era people have had the sense to make short albums. This was pretty, should listen again when I am not at work.
9/10. This was super cool, would switch between several different sounds and styles so suddenly, with instruments coming in and out, switching from singing, to spoken word, and then speeding that up into rap… and it all fit together.
7/10. Not a big MCR lover, the lyrics just tend toward rather blunt edginess, but there's no denying the cultural significance of this album.
7/10. I like Bruce Springsteen, so I liked this album. I don't really think it's a must-listen, though.
8/10. I didn't hear anything revolutionary, but definitely a solid hard rock album. I liked roll the dice and tornado dreaming 2
7/10. At its best, it reminded me a bit of America (the band), at its worst, it reminded me of the mass of pleasant but nigh-indistinguishable indie-folk of the last two decades.
5/10. Yelly screamy, couldn't be me
1/10. I know it's not the fault of whoever submitted this that I'm trying to listen to all of the user submitted albums. But, fuck off anyways, one Korn album was bad enough. It could be like a 3 or a 4 if it was just the instrumentals, but these shit lyrics are only good for pissing off your parents, and unfortunately for me, my dad likes Korn, so I'm denied even that small comfort
5/10. I see why Kayleigh is the only song from this artist with many plays on Spotify. Very 1980s
8/10. Hey, I kinda liked this one!
8/10. Really enjoyed this, but what's with that song in the middle role-playing as a Tom Waits song? Whose idea was that?
8/10. I feel like I've been getting a lot of 8s lately, but yeah, I quite liked this, definitely a bit too memorable to be a 7, but I don't like it enough on first listen to get into a crazy high rating. If I listen to this some more and don't get tired of it, I could see it becoming a favorite.
5/10. I'm just not prepared to handle a whole album of They Might Be Giants at once, I like em fine in smaller doses.
5/10. In case the Arctic Monkeys were too hardcore for you, I guess.
6/10. Hmm. I really like the idea of this album. And the title track. But the rest of it is a bit more hit-or-miss, and it's just unnerving when there are little snippets that are shared with The Wall—like that one song that sounded like Mother, and the other one that sounded like One of My Turns, and then every once in a while I'll jump in the middle of a song because it sounds like In the Flesh just came on… I just feel like this album lacks its own identity a bit because of that. Also if I could hear what the fuck Roger Waters was saying half the time it would help a lot, but the main vocals are mixed kinda low.
6/10. Better than the title lead me to expect, but not exactly my thing either.
8/10. I wouldn't really consider myself a 100 gecs fan, it's just a little much for me most of the time. That said, the 1001 albums have given me a lot of respect for 27 minute albums, and for albums where each song actually sounds different from the last one. Also, big fan of songs about frogs. I liked "I Got My Tooth Removed" a lot as well, sounded like a hyper-ska song instead of hyper-pop? Cool stuff
7/10. Uh, yeah I liked this. Didn't rock my world though.
7/10. This was good. I feel like there's something about Childish Gambino that just doesn't quite click for me, and if it did I'd be convinced it was the greatest thing ever, or whatever.
6/10. By any reasonable definition of the start of rock and roll, this album is much older now than "that old time rock and roll" was when this album was released
4/10. I want to like this a lot more than I actually do. There's a lot of cool sounds all coming together into something that ends up being pretty grating to listen to. I like to imagine I could get into this, but as it stands now... good submission, but I don't actually care for it
7/10. I liked this, appropriately country
7/10. Tbh the list doesn't really need an extra B-52's album. Like once you've heard one of their albums, you know if you like them or not. Still, found this fairly enjoyable
8/10. Good choice to help get the list into the 21st century, if only barely.
6/10. The fucking potato knishes rat robot voice at the beginning of The Raven had me real worried for this album. But then they cut it out and just started playing the opening to Band on the Run while yelling nevermore and everything was ok. Pretty cool overall, I'm not the biggest Poe-boy of all time, but I enjoy a musical adaptation of literature.
3/10. It's not that it's really bad or anything, but I don't really need to hear hour-plus jam band albums before I die. And the Wikipedia article called these guys a funk jam band, but they just didn't feel that funky to me, a bit sterile even. I'm sure it'd be fun live. Having a Ghostbusters cover is fun for the first 5 minutes or so.
10/10. I think the Who's best album, and certainly the most underrated. Glad someone finally added this since I didn't (felt bad about adding anything from artists already on the main list multiple times, and also about double albums)
