The Queen Is Dead
The SmithsGod I hate The Smiths.
God I hate The Smiths.
Good for a listening, probably won't listen again.
Decent Joni.
The Zepp. In My Time of Dying and Kashmir are among their greatest tracks ever. But let's face it, this package drags on a bit.
Interesting, but also forgettable.
This is probably someone's favourite album, but not mine. Sails a bit too close to easy listening. A shame, cause her voice is indeed diamond.
Solid Iggy, but not as good as Stooges-era, or Lust For Life.
God I hate The Smiths.
Delightful. First SY album for me. I love the sound, and I wonder why I never bumped into this in the 90's or slightly later when I had my grunge phase. It drags on a tiiiny bit, I suppose. Some imbalance in the material. But I forgive it all.
First time going through a Duran Duran album in full. Strangely enough. I think they've got great songs, but I also believe I've enjoyed other bands' covers of them more than I seem to enjoy the real deal. Even so, there's good stuff on here. Doesn't drag on either.
Genesis is an interesting case for me. There are loads of songs that I really enjoy, both from the Gabriel and the Collins eras, and I pretty much grew up with their music. I admire their musicianship, and I think they're an extremely important band in music history, especially for prog rock. Even so, they've always been more of a pick and mix and a Best Of band for me. I rarely have what it takes to listen to an album in its entirety. Maybe especially with their earlier material. Even so, this is solid 70's Genesis.
I regret my life choices leading up to this. Having said that, I'm giving it an extra star for the fact that I recognize that this is progressive stuff, and that it's very important music for some demographics. Just not for me.
Oi what the hell. This is actually pretty good. T. Rex is a band I've always known of, but never actually listened to. Sure, there were familiar tunes here, and I'm sure I'd recognize some of their other songs, but I never could've placed them, probably. This album has groove. It's got thump. I like it.
The Band is somewhat legendary, and a nice bunch of true craftsmen. Unfortunately that doesn't mitigate the fact that, for me, personally, there's very little in their music that resonates or sticks with me. The Weight being one of the rare exceptions, and a few other tracks that I honestly enjoy more when covered by other artists. Even so, this one is steady listening from start to finish. A true three star experience.
UB40 is probably one of those bands who are judged solely on their radio hit(s). In this case, I think it's not entirely fair to do so, to be honest.
This is probably someone's favourite album. But not mine. Not exactly unpleasant, but a bit too wishy-washy for me.
Truly a surprising album. Never have I given The Byrds a second thought, nor thought them anything but 60's "rock". Wasn't expecting proto-psychedelic folk. What.
Finally something I had never heard of before. And it's not bad. At 16 tracks it's way over my preferred number, but it doesn't really drag on. Some weird numbers on it, though, which makes the balance suffer a bit. Still, interesting stuff...
No. Don't make me listen to this again.
There are Megadeth albums I can sit through and occasionally enjoy, but this ain't one of them. Forgettable stuff.
Tina was a force of nature. She had a set of pipes, for sure. But this album is too heavy on the 80's production vibes, and I can't really say I enjoyed it too much.
This one has some certified bangers. I dunno, it's hard to not appreciate Dusty.
As it turns out, I apparently prefer their later material. This didn't really work for me at all, bar a few fun numbers.
Beautifully produced stuff in certain places, but, alas, not really enough to keep me interested in the long run. Probably someone's favorite album, though, and I can understand that.
Extraordinary musical craftsmanship mixed with equal parts glurge and cheese. Too much of the latter, in fact. Won't end up in my rotation.
I don't think I ever really realized how whiny Eric Clapton is. Mostly forgettable stuff here, really.
Eeeeeeh.....
This type of jam just ain't my kind of bag, baby.
I feel like I should've liked this one more. Maybe the arrangements were just a little too "stringy" for me.
Never been a massive fan of Oasis, but somehow I think this one had aged more than I had expected. Still got a banger track for my playlist, though.
I wonder if it's unfair to judge an album for sounding too much like the time during which it was made, but here we are... Some minor positive surprises among the tracks, but probably not much I feel like I need to hear a second time.
Meeeeeeeeeeeeh.....
When you're 8 and this record hits, you think it's such a dangerous album. In hindsight, and 30+ years later, you realize it's mostly hot air. Still, you wonder what could have been, had they not started playing cringey MTV quasi-raprock.
Morrissey is still a tool, but this somehow manages to be not quite as bad at The Smiths.
Daft Punk works best in short bursts and when you're in the right mood. The singles work for me, the rest I can live without.
At least this is punk. Refreshing.
Well, that was... a lot. Mr. Loaf seems to be the least shouty thing about this entire production. But I get why it's sold so much.
Decent stuff, but not my first choice Nirvana album. Its influence cannot be denied, though...
Prime Jack White material. The album that kickstarted my love for what he's doing.
The biggest scam in music history is KISS convincing everybody that they're doing hard rock. Bland disco rock is more like it...
