This is a glorious album and is well deserving of a Five Star rating. Aretha near the peak of her powers. Her voice throughout is strong and powerful, yet she can ease back when required, as in a controlled rendering of Curtis Mayfield's 'People Get Ready'. There is a surprise hint of tape hiss, and as a result it brings a bit more warmth and heart to the performances.
Ramones really are a four chord band, but what they lack in pure musicianship, they more than make up for in passion and exuberance. The music is stripped down to the bare bones rock and roll and while most of their songs sound like basically the same song, it's a good song.
I hadn't listened to this album before now. I was nineteen when British Steel hit the airwaves, made me familiar with Living After Midnight and Breaking the Law as metal anthems, but I couldn't relate to the whole black leather and chains identity. Not a bad song on this album though. I'm not sure British Steel is the defining metal album of all time but it's certainly a great point of entry.
Best liked: Metal Gods, Rapid Fire, Grinder and You Don't Have To Be Old To Be Wise.
This was my first time playing this album. It's been years since I'd heard some of these songs and yet I still knew the words.
Great for a mood, or a soundtrack to throwing a molotov.
I hear this one more as a historical document of a different time and place. Interesting, but as a non-French speaker, I can't really get everything out of the work as there is to get.
It's THE classic metal album, definitive. Always in rotation in my house.
Not really my cuppa, but it's pretty catchy. Not bad.
He has a unique voice and the overdubbing is interesting. I would call it Americana style. Interesting but I wouldn't have it on heavy rotation.
Interesting if nothing else by its influence on funk, definately a product of its time. I liked some of the rhythmic tribal beats but otherwise not really my cup of tea..
I guess this music is popular enough to be a thing, but to me, it was virtually unlistenable. The first album I have ever quit before finishing.
I'm sure Tical is good hip-hop. Just not a fan of the genre.
Having never heard a performance by Winehouse, I was kind of pleasantly surprised.
Repetitive, Take On Me was the standout, but four stars for the great 80's vibe.
The best of the album is on the first track.
Ethereal voicing. A nice album to have playing in the background.
I was surprised by this album. I have always associated the Bee Gees with disco, and this wasn't that. Quite a range and depth here.
A side of David Bowie I hadn't heard before. Not bad.
Musically I liked the studio albums better, but def respect Dylan's abilities.
It wasn't bad. Andy Williams with far more range.
Not bad, kind of representative of the genre at the time.
I wasn't a Led Zep fan during their heyday, Robert Plant's voice, but damn this is a good album.
Faves: The Rover, In The Light, Bron-Yr-Aur
There is nothing else like this sound. Been listening since it released
I don't know why this was on the list.
Catchy, enthusiastic, iconic for that time. Listening makes me feel like I'm experiencing a day in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
Not bad, just kind of forgettable.
Undeniably a unique talent. I'm glad I took a listen.
It was musical. Just not to my taste.
I guess the Sex Pistols were something back in their time and were influential to some degree, but to my ear they are way overrated.
I rather liked this album. Its catchy.
An odd kind fusion of glam rock and punk. I mean, it wasn't bad by any means but probably won't be in my rotation.
I would call it a classic of the genre.
I really like this album. It was tight.
I really liked this album! Ethereal, otherworldly, perfect for a certain kind of mood.
